Harolds
Karl drops in for a morning coffee to delay his journey to work to allow his colleagues time to prepare the festivities to mark his last day at the hospital. He is confident that what is arranged will be big, but "just in case" Susan gives him a cookie in case things aren't as big as Karl hopes!
KARL: There will be something. There has to be, it's the end of an era!
Hospital
Karl arrives for his last shift and it would appear there is no recognition of - the only sign of something is the leftover cake for someone else! Remi appears and Karl drops big hints about "another cause for celebration" which she mistakenly thinks is the news coming out about the senior role she applied for!
Lassiters Complex
As they walk through the complex, Paul is talking to Leo about heading to New York for Rosemary's funeral and determined to do some sort of eulogy whether asked for one or not!
Despite the very fuzzy screen for viewers and how lethargic Abby seems to be, Leo thinks his daughter just needs a nap but then happens to spot the small packet she has in her hand. Abby describes them as "lollies" and once Leo gets confirmation that she's eaten some (but doesn't know how many) he picks her up and runs into Krista. Leo shows her what Abby had and it is her who suggests an immediate trip to the hospital.
Hospital
Leo hands over the pills to Remi but without any markings on them, she isn't sure what Abby has taken and thus isn't too sure how to treat her other than pumping out her stomach under general anaesthetic! Krista pipes up to suggest the pills might have come from Shannon, as they look like the ones offered to her, which were opioids. With that news, Remi rushes off to confirm what they are so a reversing agent can be given to Abby.
Number 22
Toadie and Terese's plans for an outing are put aside when Terese finally hears back from a potential resident for Eirini Rising who wants a tour that afternoon. Given how long Terese has been luring Shirley to become a resident, he is happy to put their plans aside.
The Waterhole
Even though its her day off, Terese wants Susan to work… well to be Karl's stand in since he is working at the hospital, to help convince Shirley to be part of Eirini Rising. Even though she hasn't a clue about medical things, Susan gives into Terese's begging and leaves Wendy to finish setting up The Waterhole for Karl's party.
Hospital
Remi returns with confirmation that it was opioids that Abby took and thus needs an injection. The wee toot is scared and wants Krista to be the one to hold her while she is jabbed.
(Later)
After a quick chat with Remi about Abby, Karl thinks she is leading him to a celebration acknowledging his last day working at the hospital but actually it's into an empty office so she can give him the heads up that she's got the job. Remi is more than over the moon and Karl offers his congratulations and promises to keep quiet until it is officially announced.
Eirini Rising (exterior)
Terese and Susan begin the wooing of Shirley and a few of her silent mates that have tagged along too. Shirely doesn't really want to talk to them, she wants Dr Karl, so Susan is thrusted into talking about how great Karl is to try and sway them into sign up.
Terese is then surprised to see Toadie appear and he explains about coming along for moral support. "Well we need it," she acknowledges and feels that the only thing to swing the deal would be Karl "but I can't get him here."
Hospital
When Paul calls, Leo very reluctantly takes the call and after explaining where he is, plays down the exact reason for the trip. After he finishes the call, Krista is surprised Leo didn't tell him the truth, so he explains about Rosemary dying and thus Paul "doesn't need something else to worry about."
Krista feels bad about what has happened but he is firmly blaming Shannon not Krista and so Leo asks that she calls Shannon and asks to meet her.
Hospital
Having finished his last shift and now packed up his belongings, Karl hovers round the reception waiting for some sort of recognition that he is leaving! The only person to do that is Remi after she finally remembers that it was his last day! She is eternally grateful that he gave her the push to go for her new position and reassures him that his legacy won't be forgotten. They agree to meet up later at The Waterhole for celebratory drinks.
Lassiters Park
Shannon is surprised that it is Leo and not Krista who meets up with her in a very secluded part of the park. He asks if she lost some stock (no) then goes on to tell her she did because his "four year old daughter found it and took some." "Nothing to do with me," Shannon nonchalantly replies back and only seems to get agitated when Leo then goes onto mention that he's contacted the police.
LEO: You're done!
SHANNON: You'll regret this.
LEO: (menacingly) You almost killed my daughter. I regret nothing!
Eirini Rising (exterior)
It would appear that Shirley doesn't like the hard sell Susan has been doing because she wants her place painted a different colour to the options and wants shutters not drapes/curtains! Add in the fact Karl isn't there either, it very much looks like Terese is about to lose the sale… that is until Toadie (who just so happened to pop past again!) steps in and turns on the charm and adds in a bit of bribery (free legal assistance to update wills) to try and salvage the sale!
Lassiters Complex
Krista nervously waits for Leo's return from meeting Shannon and he reports that "she won't be bothering you again." She is mightily relieved to hear this, however Krista now sees herself as a bit of a 'jinx' given "something awful happens" and admits this is why she broke up with him.
Krista is on a real downer about herself, which Leo tries to dig her out of by reminding her she's "been through some horrible things in her life" before adding that she is "still here," which to Leo, makes her "the strongest person I know."
KRISTA: Stop it! Stop being so nice to me, okay! It just makes it harder for me to stay away from you.
"Then don't stay away!" he quickly replies back and adds that both Abby and himself love and need her. Leo hopes that what happened at the hospital proved this and hopes she feels the same back. "Am I wrong?" he asks and after a moment or two, Krista shakes her head before seconds later moving in to kiss Leo.
It's not just Leo who is happy with this, but the watching on Paul and Abby who have returned to the complex after their walk.
Eirini Rising (exterior)
After a now happy Shirley and her mates depart, Terese asks Toadie if they've done enough so that she (and the others) sign up! He thinks the fact they "looked pretty happy in the end" means that they will and she can't but thank him for stepping in and "offering pro- bono legal services."
TOADIE: Every deal needs a sweetener!
Terese jokes that Shirley wasn't his only fan today either and adds in that the development will have a 4:1 ratio between the women and the men.
TOADIE: Well, Harold is gonna have his hands full then, isn't he?!
The Waterhole
Susan thanks Wendy for how great the bar looks given she was dragged away to help Terese out. Wendy was happy to do this to ensure Karl has "an awesome party."
It looks like Susan wasn't the only person to have a "miserable" day when Remi reports to Susan how Karl's last day was… which she is more than thrilled to hear that!
REMI: I had such a hard time not saying anything.
Like Susan, she is thrilled over how great the bar looks and hopes tonight is going to "be a party to remember." Susan thanks Remi for being the one to get Karl to the bar and the trio can't wait for the party to begin!
Number 24
…However they need the guest of honour for that but Karl is on such a downer nothing happened on his last day, that he calls round to see if Aaron will accompany him on a bike ride. After explaining why he's miserable, Aaron wonders if it was simply "everyone got their wires crossed" and got his last date mixed up? Karl doesn't think they did as Remi knew and suggested a drink at The Waterhole. Somewhat reluctantly, Aaron agrees to go get his cycling gear on and accompany Karl.
Number 22
After entering Terese's bedroom, Toadie is pleased to see that despite it being a hectic day, his wife appears to be less stressed now - she puts that down to his involvement in helping to get those last apartments sold. Terese remarks on how Susan isn't going to win 'the salesperson of the week award' and thought she'd give Shirley what she needed to hear to get the deal done. "That's not really Susan though, is it," Toadie comments back which Terese is forced to agree with.
Terese apologies again for not being able to do the plans he came up with but he is fine with it and pretty sure those plans [a trip to the theatre] "wouldn't make you anywhere near as happy as Shirley Burchmore and her friends are!"
TERESE: (laughing) That sounds very wrong!
Toadie replies that it doesn't and instead points out that "this is the payoff for a lot of work!!
TOADIE: I'm in awe of you Terese. You have built something that is gonna change so many lives. You are incredible!
"I've missed this," Terese says as she stands up to hug Toadie. He looks mightily shocked at what she's just done but hugs her back as Terese continues to say that she has missed is them "working as a team."
Toadie then leans down to kiss Terese but he's mis- read the situation and she quickly pulls back and asks "what are you doing?!" "I thought," he begins with but she is quick to interrupt and say "no."
TOADIE: I'm sorry.
TERESE: No, I'm just not ready for that.
TOADIE: I understand completely. I'm really, really sorry.
"We'll talk about this later," she says and Toadie can't but quickly agree before she hurriedly heads into the ensuite.
