Street somewhere
While Andrew and his colleagues chase after the escaping Wade, Mackenzie and Karl quickly go to Haz and for someone to call for an ambulance.
It doesn't take long for Erinsborough's finest to catch Wade and read him his rights. Immediately Wade demands a lawyer.
Meanwhile Haz tries to reassure Mackenzie that he is okay but barely seconds later he's unconscious and Karl steps into full doctor mode giving him CPR while a shocked Mackenzie watches on!
Lassiters Complex
Susan is telling Holly, Sadie and Byron about what Mackenzie discovered and that she's gone off to try and locate Haz. Holly thinks Mackenzie is wasting her time trying to help Haz as he "is a terrible person." Byron tries to defend his housemate but Holly isn't backing down and wants him caught for what he's done.
HOLLY: Haz is dead to me!
While Byron and Sadie try to defend Haz's actions, a silent officer lead Wade on the handcuffed walk of shame through the complex towards the police station. Andrew breaks away from following to go over to the quartet to tell them about Haz.
Hospital (exterior)
Karl tries to reassure Mackenzie that Haz is "in good hands" as he is wheeled into the hospital. Haz is still unconscious and one of the paramedics is manually administering oxygen to him via a blow bag.
Mackenzie follows the stretcher into the hospital as Susan and Co arrive. Karl fills them in and that it was Mackenzie who knocked Haz down, describing it as "a terrible accident." Naturally, everyone is concerned especially so after Karl explains about Haz becoming unconscious. They want to know what his chances are and Karl replies that "it's serious."
Ramsay Street
JJ returns home with his parents after the hearing and a successful driving lesson. He is still fearful, despite what they say, that he will be sent to juvie and to take his mind away from waiting for the news, talk him into playing some basketball.
Hospital
"I'll never forgive myself," Mackenzie says to the K's as they wait for news on Haz. She is very mournful at not trusting Haz and of course knocking him down! Susan tries to say she "mustn't blame yourself" because "it was an accident" and Haz is in the right place "getting the best possible care."
One of the doctors (Gavin) comes out to update them - Haz is in a coma due to the injuries sustained in the accident. Karl tries to reassure Mackenzie that Haz being in the coma is just his body trying to protect itself. When she asks how long he will be in the coma for, Gavin replies that they don't know, nor do they know "what condition he will be in if he does."
MACKENZIE: If?!
"Is he gonna die?" she asks and Gavin is the one to warn her that "it's a distinct possibility." She then asks to see him and so Gavin leads her into the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) where Haz lies unconscious attached to a respirator.
(Later)
Byron, Sadie and Holly enter the ICU. A tearful Holly now regrets the things she said about Haz and so wants to be able to tell him that she forgives him. "You'll get to," an equally tearful Sadie says back to her, confident Haz will be okay. Mackenzie admits that she was angry at him too and utterly breaks down when saying she "can't do this again."
MACKENZIE: I can't lose someone else that I love.
Ramsay Street
JJ and his parents come out of the house to play basketball and are joined by Wendy however before they get going, all are surprised to see Dex appear. The lad made up an excuse (sore throat) to get out of school as he couldn't concentrate due to the division hearing being on. Dex interprets JJ being there as him getting off, so is told they haven't heard the decision yet.
Despite the brave words earlier that she was an ace basketball player, Wendy asks Dex to take her spot as she's got Uni reading to do. "What, basketball for dummies," JJ teases her with before they family get down to shooting some hoops.
Hospital (exterior)
While getting a coffee, the K's update Andrew that its "a waiting game" about Haz but they need to stay positive. Despite knowing that it was an accident, Andrew explains to Karl and the newly arrived Mackenzie (with Sadie, Byron and Holly with her too) that he needs to take statements about what happened. Mackenzie is happy to give him a statement… as long as it is done at the hospital, she isn't going anywhere until Haz wakes up - Holly has to force her to remain outside for the 5 minute fresh air breath they agreed on!
We hear too that for the recent deepfakes at least, Haz is in the clear - Wade has fully confessed but will be charged for the earlier stuff. Holly is adamant that Haz shouldn't be punished for what he did to Wade, rather he should receive a medal!
HOLLY: That creep deserves everything he got.
Number 30
Chatting with his brother, JJ hopes that once they hear news of the division hearing that they can put it behind them and "get back to normal."
DEX: You'll never be normal weirdo!
Lassiters Complex
With Andrew's permission (as long as she keeps her distance), Holly is allowed to tell Wade exactly what she thinks of him before he is frogmarched through the complex.
HOLLY: You've been a victim. You know what it's like to have your life trashed. How could you do the same thing to other people, innocent people?
WADE: Haz isn't innocent.
HOLLY: But I am and Aaron and Jane! What have any of us ever done to you?!
WADE: You're his friends.
Wade is bitter because thanks to Haz, he lost his friends and family along with his "dignity" and his "whole world." Neither Holly or Sadie are giving him any of their sympathies, citing him as being "deluded"! Holly has some parting words for him too before he's taken to the waiting police car.
HOLLY: I have a feeling that you're going to regret ever getting into the fake world'cause reality is about to hit and I hope it packs a punch!
Hospital
As they wait for Haz to wake up, Byron does his best to reassure Mackenzie that he will beat it due to being healthy and strong. Unfortunately for Mackenzie, her mind is drawn back to Hendrix and that those words could have applied to him too… "but he died."
Gavin enters the ICU to give them some positive news - brain scans have revealed there is signs of activity and so the chances of Haz recovering is "much higher now." Byron is at least taking this as good and urges her to stay positive.
MACKENZIE: I want to. I really do but no matter how high hope is, it's still only hope.
Number 30
It's good news for the family after Remi receives a call - as long as JJ completes the diversion exercises he won't have a criminal record.
CARA: That kid better keep his nose squeaky clean from now on,'cause I'm not going through this again!
Remi hopes what has happened has been enough to "scare some sense into him!" However what might not help is JJ's letter being returned unopened again despite the plea written on the reverse asking Felix to read the letter. They are looking on the bright side though that the letter being returned unopened means that Felix is keeping his promise… however what they don't realise is that someone has overhead this part of their conversation - Dex!
Hospital
Mackenzie keeps a vigil by Haz's bedside.
MACKENZIE: I'm so sorry. I'm going to get you through this.
Number 30
JJ hears the news that he has got the diversion and is overjoyed. "I can't believe its all over," he says but is reminded that doesn't happen until all the diversion exercises have been completed! Unlike his brother and mums, Dex isn't exactly in a celebratory mood although is happy "you're not a criminal… yet!"
Just as everyone is about to tuck into fairy bread, JJ spots the returned letter. They acknowledge it is hard but don't think its wise he sets himself up "to keep getting hurt." Cara adds in that it's obvious "Felix has made his decision clear" that he "doesn't want to be in touch" and Remi backs Cara up by commenting that Felix is "not a good guy."
JJ looks utterly gutted and picking up the letter, tells his mums he is going out for a walk. After he leaves, Cara is kicking herself for not hiding the returned letter but despite what has happened, Remi thinks "it's the best outcome."
CARA: He needs to finally accept what he's like.
Harold's café
Dex finds his brother in the café and sits down to let JJ unload on what Felix is "scared of" that he won't even open a letter?
JJ: I don't want anything from him. Like ever since I read that diary, I wanted to know who my father is and now I do, I might as well not. I can't get to him. Do you think I'm being selfish? Am I asking too much?
Dex replies "no" and JJ does "have a right to know who your father is." The lad looks like he is mentally flipping a coin in his head before he then says that there is something he needs to tell him!
Number 30
During the ad break, Dex came clean with JJ and he couldn't get home quickly enough to confront his parents despite Dex trying to get him to calm down first! "What's going on?" Remi asks but JJ is ready for a confrontation!
JJ: (angrily) All I've heard from you lately is "don't lie, don't like, don't lie" and the whole time you've been lying to my face pretending to be all sad and sorry for me'cause my deadbeat dad hates me when he doesn't! You just want me to think that!
CARA: Where is this coming from?
JJ: Oh, go on. Lie to me again. I know what you did, you told Felix to reject me! I will never forgive you!!
