Previously
- Holly working out that Mackenzie's Ed is actually Eden, her ex.
- Things being stolen at the winery... and Eden is the prime suspect.
- Haz reassuring Mackenzie that things will get easier.
- Cara telling Remi about having to testify against the Linwell brothers.
- Andrew sure it's the Linwell brothers responsible for smashing the VM's car window.
- Andrew unsure of how the Linwell brothers tracked the VM's down.
- Remi ordering Cara to evacuate the kids out of the house after a mystery white power was sent to them.
Number 30
Cara now twigs to the power on the table but Remi is insistent that she gets the boys out of the house and to call 000.
REMI: Tell them it's a potential anthrax threat.
Ramsay Street
Cara eventually gets the kids out and using the garden hose, each wash their hands and face to be on the safe side (they were far enough away from where it fell onto the table). Unfortunately in their haste to get out, they forgot to take their mobiles, so JJ rushes over to #26 to see Andrew.
Number 30
Remi looks down at her hands and they are covered in powder. She then notices the paper cut on her finger, which has drawn blood.
Number 26 (garden)
JJ tells Andrew what has happened, but the lad starts to panic that Remi is still in the house. Andrew gets JJ to calm down and reassures him that everything will be fine, as he gets his mobile out to call for help.
Andrew and JJ then head for #30 leaving a bemused Wendy wondering where her husband is when she comes out of the house with the crockery for their meal.
Harolds café (rear)
Sadie (along with Haz and Holly) are trying to reassure Mackenzie that things will be okay but its getting a bit too much for her and she walks way to compose herself.
Holly admits that she's struggling to get her head round what Eden has done and doesn't think he'll have done a runner, even though the police haven't tracked him down yet.
Ramsay Street
Cara feels useless standing waiting for the troops to arrive (Andrew reports that the Hazmat team are on their way along with an ambulance). Andrew puts on his policeman hat to reassure the boys that its probably just a hoax but Cara knows the Linwell brothers and isn't so sure, especially given "their whole livelihoods are on the line." JJ does the big brother part by reassuring Dex that Ma will be fine when the lad really starts to worry.
A bemused Wendy comes out onto the street to see what is going on but is herded back inside by Andrew. He reminds her too that she isn't supposed to know anything about what is going on with the VM's.
Harolds café
Using a tracking app, Sadie has found out where her wallet is, and its not too far away. Sadie calls her dad about it but just gets voicemail. Haz wants to go and get Mackenzie's stuff but isn't being allowed to go without Holly... she wants a word with Eden! "Just be careful," Mackenzie shouts as they head out the café door.
Ramsay Street/Number 30
Protecting his face with his shirt, Andrew heads to the front door of #30 to shout in to Remi to see how she is holding up.
REMI: I've had better days!
Naturally she asks about the others and Andrew replies they are worried before going on that the chances of this being serious is slim. Remi wants him to guarantee he won't let Cara in because if it is real, "someone needs to be there for the boys." Andrew promises that before going on to say the Hazmat team are on route however they need to know if she's inhaled any of the dust. Remi confirms that its more than likely she has, and also why she's reluctant to go wash as it will just mean more airborne particles. She also tells him about the cut on her hand and that the powder has got into the wound.
REMI: Whatever this is, it's in my system.
Street somewhere
Having arrived at the location where Sadie's tracker was showing, there appears to be no sign of anyone going around. Haz decides he wants to go look, and orders Holly to lock the car doors when he exits the car. He immediately runs towards the house, trying to look around inconspicuously.
Ramsay Street
Andrew reports back to Cara that Remi is using her medical training so that she doesn't "make any mistakes" while they wait for the cavalry to arrive.
Wendy rushes up to them wanting to know what is going on and Cara gives her blessing for Andrew to (officially) tell her what is happening.
WENDY: This is all my fault.
Wendy comes clean and admits what is happening is down to her calling the Linwell brothers. She explains about noticing how Cara omitted putting the stadium job down on her CV, and thinking she was hiding something, she called the Linwell brothers pretending to ask for a reference. Cara is speechless over what Wendy did and explains they're not on her CV because "they're bad people." While Wendy is sincerely sorry over what she has done, Cara isn't happy that the Linwell brothers have now found her and thus blames Wendy for what has happened to her family.
Street somewhere
Haz is snooping around the back of the house trying to see if anyone is there. While in the car, barely seconds after Holly texts Mackenzie to say there is no sign of Eden, he appears out the front door of the house! Ignoring Haz's instructions to stay in the car, Holly gets out and confronts Eden in the garden. He wants to know how she found him, but Holly instead asks when he realised she was Mackenzie's friend?
HOLLY: From the start? Or do you want to claim its one massive coincidence you coming back, hooking up with one of my besties?
Eden's response is that he was "just passing through" and happened to meet Mackenzie. Holly isn't buying that especially given he was trying to avoid her. "Because I thought it would be weird," is his response but its not washing with her so she demands he returns their belongings "so I don't have to see your loser face again!" Eden plays dumb about what is going on, but the threat of the police being on their way has him changing his tune. Angrily, he throws the basket he was carrying onto the grass and menacingly talks to Holly while walking closer and closer to her (she's walking backwards trying to maintain a distance between them).
EDEN: You know, I always knew that you were stupid. I didn't think you were this stupid.
Realising that she's being backed into a corner, Holly shouts out for Haz. Eden looks around and with there being no sign of Haz, grabs Holly and pushes her into a shed before locking her in it. Holly yells for him to let her out while also shouting for Haz.
Haz hears the commotion and runs towards the escaping Eden and rugby tackles him to the ground before trying to pin him on the floor. The pair tussle with each other, raining punches against the other, but ultimately Eden manages to get away and escapes in his van.
"Stand back," Haz yells to Holly when he manages to get off the floor and make his way to the shed to kick the door in...he could have just moved the bolt back but a bit less dramatic!!! Once free, Holly can see he's been hurt but is reassured that he is fine. She then goes to see what was in the basket Eden threw to the floor and finds their stolen property, however when Holly looks inside Mackenzie's bag, the wedding rings aren't there.
Ramsay Street
With the Hazmat team delayed due to an accident on the Freeway, Cara is adamant she is going inside to be with Remi, regardless of the consequences. Eventually she relents only when Andrew tells her about the promise he made to Remi about not letting her inside. Unseen, Wendy sneaks under the barrier tape and is almost at the front door before Andrew notices her and yells, but its to no avail as she enters the house.
Number 30
Remi is very much surprised to hear Wendy come in and says she shouldn't be in the house. Wordlessly, Wendy stares at the powder all over the table.
Ramsay Street/Number 30
From outside, Andrew gets out his phone to call Wendy. Inside, Remi tells her that the power could be anthrax so its not safe for her to be in the house. Wendy cancels Andrew's call and confesses to Remi that she knows what is going on and what is happening is due to her contacting the Linwell brothers.
WENDY: It's a long story, and I'm so, so sorry.
Remi tries her best to get Wendy to leave, but Wendy is adamant that "as long as you are here, I'm going to be here with you."
Lassiters Complex
Haz and Holly pull up in the car park and can see Sadie and Mackenzie sitting on a bench. Neither want to go and tell Mackenzie the bad news but eventually they put their big pants on and get out of the car and make their way over.
Sadie spots the duo first and Mackenzie sprints ahead to meet them, relived to see Holly carrying her bag. As Haz hands over Sadie's wallet, he tells them that all the stuff was there... its Holly (as she hands over the bag) who breaks the news that the rings are missing. However when Mackenzie rakes in the bags, she pulls out the chain with their rings on it, much to Holly's bemusement as she was sure she'd checked every pocket! Turns out that thankfully Mackenzie kept them in the lining of the bag (via a little hole).
Eventually they realise that Haz has been injured, but he plays that down, instead saying that wherever Eden is, he will "wake up worse than me," before heading off to ice up his injuries.
Holly describes to the pair how amazing Haz was, kicking the door of the shed in to save her. "Amazing and idiotic," is Mackenzie's description before adding "kind and generous" too. Holly quickly agrees while Sadie just looks between the pair of them!!
Number 30
Wendy makes herself comfortable in the seat next to Remi and is told to keep still.
Ramsay Street/Number 30
Andrew tries again to call his wife but she cancels this call too. Cara and the boys are very fearful and hug each other for support.
Number 30
Wendy asks if the powder is anthrax, what does it do. Remi explains that it is a "bacterial infection that produces two toxins" which can "both lead to organ failure if left untreated."
WENDY: Well, we won't think about that!
"Easier said than done," Remi mutters and turns down the option of a mundane chat with Wendy. She can't believe Wendy didn't get out when she had the chance but Wendy is very resolute that "her place is here" because she was the one "who caused this."
REMI: Whatever you've said and done Wendy, this started long before we met you.
WENDY: No, this is what I do. I mess everything up. I contact those thugs because I was so insecure about not getting that building managing job.
REMI: Yeah, look, we all have our insecurities.
"Cara doesn't seem to," Wendy comments and Remi thinks she is the exception! Wendy confesses to finding Cara intimidating (but not in a bad way) as "its like she knows what she wants" and thus "makes it happen." Remi agrees with Wendy's summation.
WENDY: I wish I had a bit of that in me.
Remi admits the only time she feels like that is at work, putting on the scrubs makes her feel like "Superwoman" but plays down being "a superhero."
REMI: You know, not one of those doctors, its just a feeling I get.
"That is some power," Wendy reminds her that she uses to help her patients, but as she starts to cry, Remi doesn't feel like that now.
REMI: I'm powerless with whatever this is inside me.
WENDY: Remi, it is okay. You've got this.
Just then, the Hazmat team enter the house and Remi's tears turn to happy ones now the cavalry has arrived.
(Later)
Commercial break later and the Hazmat team leave the house carrying a blue sack. Both Wendy and Remi have respirator masks on as they impatiently wait to hear if it is anthrax or not. Seconds after talking about that, Cara and the boys enter the house.
CARA: It's baking soda!
Andrew comes in at the back of them and confirms that it is safe. Remi and Wendy can't get the masks off quick enough before hugging their respective loved ones.
Andrew admonishes his wife for what she did but Wendy explains she couldn't let Remi go through it alone when it was her fault. Remi reminds Wendy that she didn't cause this, however Cara pipes up to say Wendy "didn't help" before asking what she was thinking digging into her past?! Remi tries to say the brothers would have found them even without Wendy's actions. Andrew also tries to diffuse the situation but that isn't washing with Cara.
CARA: Look, you might be a good cop but you're a lousy neighbour.
JJ: Mum!
CARA: No, it has to be said. Your wife has caused my family so much pain. Accusing JJ of stealing a watch, and now this?
"When's it going to end?!" she asks and JJ jumps in to point out it isn't Andrew's fault, he's a good guy! Despite JJ's words, Cara is at the end of her tether and tells the Rodwell's they are not needed in their lives.
JJ: (yelling) Maybe I do!
Dex warns his brother to keep quiet and Remi isn't the only one confused about what is going on.
DEX: Please. Please don't.
JJ: I think he might be my dad.
