The Waterhole
Lucy wonders if Shane wants to buy the hotel because of the infamous Ramsay/Robinson rivalry. "Despite what Paul says, those days are long gone," Shane replies with a grin. Lucy points out that Shane hasn't lived in Erinsborough for over three decades, so why the change of heart now.
SHANE: I've been thinking about the past a lot lately. My father wanted me to go to the Olympics for diving, and I never got there.
LUCY: So what's all that got to do with Lassiters?
SHANE: Achieving something in Erinsborough, even in a different field, I'm sure it would make him proud. (Off Lucy's eyebrow raise) What?
LUCY: Father issues. You and Paul are more alike than you realise.
Terese finds them and greets Lucy with a hug. She then mentions to Shane that she heard his partnership with Paul is off the table, and that Paul's thinking about moving to New York (much to Lucy's surprise).
TERESE: I hope what I told you at the engagement party didn't put you off the idea.
SHANE: It wasn't just that.
TERESE: Because for what it's worth, I really do think that you and Paul would make an excellent team. I really do.
When Terese leaves, Shane says that if Paul moves to the US it would be quite the bonus for Lucy.
Number 32
David and Leo have told Aaron about Paul's potential shift to New York. Leo admits he loves NY, but he's got the vineyard and the gin distillery here. David says the idea sparked something in him. He realises it's probably a pipe dream, but he liked the idea of getting to know his siblings better. Plus his job prospects here aren't exactly great.
AARON: Hold on are you being serious right now?
DAVID: Of course I wouldn't make any decisions without you or Nicolette.
NICOLETTE: (walking in from Isla) She's finally gone down. What about me?
AARON: Paul might be moving to New York.
LEO: Our brother wants us to move over as well.
DAVID: But it's not a thing. I was just daydreaming, that's all.
NICOLETTE: That's a relief because things are pretty good right now. I mean, daddy's out of prison and mummy's got a honey across the road, so it's all gravy, baby.
Number 24
Paige is talking shop with Chloe while Kiri potters around in the kitchen. Paige says they'll do a full advertising blitz for the house and then have inspections on Thursday nights and Saturdays. Kiri throws them a despondent look before heading to her room. Paige notices that Chloe is barely taking in what she's saying, but Chloe says she's thinking about all the upheaval she's causing for her housemates and for Aaron.
PAIGE: You're allowed to make decisions about your future. Where did you go after Adelaide? And don't lie because I know you didn't come straight here.
CHLOE: I was hoping to just gloss over that detail.
PAIGE: You left before I did.
Chloe's saved by a knock at the door and tables the conversation for later. Sam has arrived for a work meeting Chloe planned. Chloe introduces her to Paige, who encourages Sam to make the most of the Lassiters staff discount at the day spa like she did when she worked there.
Number 30 Sunroom
Zara sits at the table on her iPad while Amy does a wedding dress fitting on Melanie. Noticing an email, Zara sighs and tells Amy they didn't get the apartment in Elliot Park. Melanie can't believe they're thinking about moving already and wishes they could stay a little longer - especially with the wedding coming up. "It's such a shame you're not in the market for Chloe's place, then we could see each other all the time," Mel adds, not registering Amy's uncomfortable look. Toadie tries to barge in, so Amy quickly throws material over his head as it's bad luck to see the bride's dress before the wedding. Vision obscured, Toadie reaches out to hug Melanie but accidentally gets Amy instead. Amy wriggles free and attempts to leave the lovebirds to it. "Mum, you might want to see this email," Zara says, passing her the iPad.
Number 24
Finishing their conversation, Chloe tells Sam she just wanted to let her know she resigned in person before anyone else told her. They share a hug and Sam says she's going to miss Chloe. When Sam leaves, Kiri asks how she took the news. "Better than I would have," Chloe says. "I really hope things work out for her." Conversation turns to River Bend and Kiri says that Terese definitely saw the potential, she just hopes Glen isn't pressuring her into it. "Don't worry, Terese makes her own decisions," Chloe reassures her. Kiri's also worried about having a long-distance relationship with Nicolette. Chloe says it'll be okay as Terese will take her time deciding, but Kiri gets a worrying text alert which makes her realise that the gift of time might not be an option.
Harold's Café
Lucy tells Glen that she's stunned Terese might be investing in River Bend. Glen had no idea she'd bumped into Terese already, then looks worried when Lucy says Terese just put in a good word to Shane on Paul's behalf. When Paul walks in, Glen takes his leave, but pauses near the entryway when Lucy starts talking to Paul about his move to New York.
Number 22
Glen is frustrated when he returns home and asks Terese why she spoke to Shane about Paul. Terese doesn't think it was a big deal. But Glen's concerned they spent the whole morning looking at a new business opportunity, only for Terese to immediately go into bat for Paul when she heard he was moving.
TERESE: Now you're blowing it out of proportion!
GLEN: Am I? What do you think about Paul moving? Honestly.
TERESE: I guess I'm a bit sad but it's none of my business. Come on, Glen, I'm entitled to an opinion.
GLEN: I'm just still a bit shaky from what happened the other week.
TERESE: You know what, I can't keep apologising for helping out at the hotel without telling you.
Kiri hovers awkwardly by the open door before making her presence known. She apologises for her bad timing but she just got a message from the owners at River Bend. "Someone's put in an offer," she says. "They're happy for you to match it but you need to do it today." Terese looks slightly overwhelmed and says she's going for a walk, shutting Glen down when he offers to tag along.
Number 30
Toadie hears the tail end of a concerning phone call Amy's on and asks if everything is okay. Amy tells him that she just got a quote from the IVF clinic in the US and they want $10,000 for anonymous swimmers. Toadie wonders if she's considered asking someone she knows, but Amy says she's already asked her exes and they weren't interested. Toad reminds Amy how amazing and beautiful she is, so she'll have no problems finding a guy to help her out.
AMY: Where would I even start though?
TOADIE: We can put our heads together, go through everyone that you know, everyone that I know.
Amy looks tempted, but gets spooked when Melanie walks in talking to Zara about the wedding and Toad offers to throw in Mel's contacts in her donor search. Amy quickly tells Toadie she'll figure it out herself.
Lassiters Complex
Terese strolls past Harold's Café and notices Paul standing down at the lake. She quickly ducks behind a tree when Paul turns around, hoping he didn't notice her. Paige emerges from the Café and shows Terese all the fliers she's put around the complex advertising #24.
TERESE: Old school, I like it.
PAIGE: Well I don't have a website or an office yet so a girl's gotta hustle.
TERESE: Well I'm sure that won't be an issue for you.
Paige asks if Terese is free for a coffee but then has to backtrack when she gets a text from a potential buyer for Chloe's place.
Paul has taken a seat in the hotel foyer and notices Terese standing outside, taking in her surroundings. She stares up at the Lassiters hotel sign with a wistful smile before walking away.
Ramsay Street
The potential buyer of #24 turns out to be Izzy. Paige explains all the additions Chloe has made to the house, then says she has a connection to the place herself.
PAIGE: I used to live here with my husband when I first arrived in Erinsborough. Of course we weren't married then, just roommates.
IZZY: I've met Mark, he's lovely.
PAIGE: Aww! Look I don't want to overstep here, but are you sure you want to move into the same street as Karl and Susan?
IZZY: I'm sure in time that we'll move past any tensions and be one, big happy family.
PAIGE: And Malcolm's on the same page?
IZZY: Actually I haven't told him yet.
PAIGE: (amused) Right.
IZZY: But I'm sure he will love this place.
Izzy then asks if there might be a chance they could look inside. Across the road, Shane has seen the 'for sale' sign attached to #24 and is on the phone with someone.
SHANE: Talk about timing. I can't believe that our old place is actually up for sale. If I get the green light on the hotel, let me buy the house back for you, mum. Looks like we might have some competition though.
He glances over at Izzy, but is distracted when he gets an incoming call from Paul. Shane tells his mum he'll call her back.
Harold's Café
Amy is scoffing down cake and spilling her Toadie woes to Harold. She says she's trying to be happy for Toadie and Mel but it's difficult to be around them. "I don't have romantic feelings for Toadie," Amy insists, before pausing. "At least I don't think I do." She feels bad for dumping all this onto Harold, but he says he wants to help as much as he can.
AMY: Zara keeps saying that we would make the perfect couple. And I'm just like, that is the craziest thing in the world. But then we started talking about sperm donors. I'm sorry, are you okay to talk about this?
HAROLD: What? Oh! I do understand biology, yes.
AMY: Right, well, Toadie kept suggesting that maybe I find someone I know. And then in that moment I just thought he's perfect. And then Mel walks in the room and I think how twisted is my mind for me to even think about that.
HAROLD: Oh Amy, your feelings, they are so complicated.
AMY: Yeah. I don't know what it is but I can't keep pretending that it's nothing.
Toadie suddenly walks in and Harold thinks it would be marvellous for Amy and Toadie to have time alone to chat. But Amy babbles that she sees enough of Toadie at home and invites the men to stay and chat instead. Toadie looks concerned when Amy rushes out.
TOADIE: That's the second time that she's run off like that today. Do you know what's going on?
HAROLD: (he gets up to leave) I think it's something you'll have to talk over with Amy.
TOADIE: Where are you going?
HAROLD: Skype call. I'll see you later.
Number 22
Glen tells Kiri that he thinks Terese buying River Bend is still a good idea. Plus he'd love the chance to work more with Kiri. Although hesitant to put any strain on her relationship with Nic, Kiri says that River Bend has always been her favourite place in the world. "I'd just love to be part of a whole new chapter with you and Terese," Glen says. Terese soon arrives home and Glen asks if she made a decision.
Number 24
Izzy, Paige and Chloe return from checking out the sunroom. Izzy's delighted with the place and thanks them for letting her in at such short notice. But Chloe's glad for an early sale if it all works out. Izzy hopes so too, but she hasn't told Mal yet and asks the girls to keep it on the down low for now. When Izzy leaves, Chloe remarks that it might be the quickest real estate deal in history. Paige warns her not to get too excited though, "once Karl and Susan get wind of this, who knows what will happen." Chloe can't help but agree it might be too much for Susan to give her blessing.
PAIGE: Now that we've got a second alone, where did you go after Adelaide?
CHLOE: This stays between us okay?
PAIGE: Pinky swear.
CHLOE: The truth is, everything I decided in Adelaide felt right. I was going to come here and let everyone know, but then I got some surprising news and went to Sydney instead. What happened next turned everything on its head.
Lassiters Hotel Penthouse/Number 22
Paul has gathered Lucy, Leo, David and Aaron together for an announcement. David wants his dad to get on with things, but Paul only exclaims that "it's showtime" once Shane arrives holding two bottles of champagne.
Terese admits to Glen and Kiri that she had some reservations about the speed of it all, but she does need a change and decided to buy River Bend after all. Glen's delighted and Kiri's happy but surprised.
Paul tells his family he's selling the hotel to Shane and moving to New York. "I knew it," Leo grins, but David doesn't look as thrilled.
Kiri says they should celebrate, and Terese agrees, taking a bottle of non-alcoholic bubbles out of her handbag.
Everyone has a glass in hand as Shane tells Paul he's made the right decision. "You won't regret it either," Shane promises Lucy. Paul makes a toast "to New York" that everyone raises their glasses to.
Terese clinks glasses with Glen and Kiri, saying a cheers to River Bend. Kiri knows she has to break the news to Nicolette ASAP, and Glen says they've got an important chat to have with Leo too.
Paul tells his family that he knows the move to New York is a bit of a shock, but it's time for him to move on. David says they're all really happy for him. "We'll just miss you, that's all," Leo adds.
AARON: The girls will miss you too.
PAUL: Well maybe they could see me all the time. Come on, why don't you move to New York with me? Andrew is right, we should start a fresh chapter together as a family.
Number 32
Nicolette is quite stunned when Kiri tells her the River Bend news. Kiri promises the drive isn't that far, and they'll be able to see each other on weekends. Nic says weekends at the Café are usually the busiest time, but tries to be positive when Kiri says they'll work things out. Nic's in for another shock when the boys and Leo get home and she overhears them talking about a move to New York.
NICOLETTE: What?
DAVID: Dad's decided to move to the US and he really wants us to come.
NICOLETTE: What? But I thought you said that was unrealistic?
DAVID: It is-
KIRI: (to Leo) Are you going?
LEO: No, well I can't either. I've got my business here. And I have to keep my employees in a job, right!
KIRI: Uh, about that. Glen and I were gonna talk to you but Terese is buying River Bend and Glen's going to help her develop it.
LEO: (taken aback) Okay. And she offered you a job as well?
KIRI: I'm sorry. I've loved working for you, but River Bend is always where I've been the happiest.
AARON: (to David) Seems everyone's making moves.
Number 30
Toadie says to Mel that he understands Amy's upset about all the baby stuff, but doesn't get why she ran off on him. Melanie thinks Amy might not be comfortable talking about it in a group. "Harold suggested that we talk in private but she couldn't get out of there fast enough," Toadie replies. "And then Harold did the same thing!" Zara joins them, aware they're talking about her mum. Toadie says they're just worried, but Zara says Amy's fine and just took the van down to the lake to prep for tomorrow. Toadie decides to go to the lake and sort things out once and for all.
Lassiters Lake
Toadie finds Amy crying at the rotunda. He tells her that he knows all the baby stuff is overwhelming, but he's here if she needs him. "That's part of the problem," she says with a watery smile.
AMY: I can't rely on you.
TOADIE: Of course you can.
AMY: No, I mean it's not fair for me to rely on you. It's not fair for me to turn to you every time I have a problem. You're about to marry an amazing woman and she should be your priority.
TOADIE: And she is, but I can still be there for you too.
AMY: Oh Toad, you're such a good man. You're too good for me.
TOADIE: I don't know what that means.
AMY: It means maybe I think of you as more than a friend. It's why I can't be around you anymore.
Amy leaves, while Toadie sits there shocked.
