Harold's café
Even though surgery is only a couple of days away, Kyle tells Toadie he still plans to not tell his Gran about his cancer. Kyle hasn't told Karl why he needs time off either - and while he's fixed things so that he can cover, Karl isn't too pleased at having to do that without any explanation. Its Susan who calls the dog off (Karl was starting to have a real go at Kyle's lack of dedication) and takes him over to the counter to place their order.
When the K's head to the counter, Toadie tries to get Kyle to tell Karl what is going on - both to answer any questions he might have about the surgery... but to also get Karl off his back!
Queensland (Hotel)
Paul is forced to curtail his call to John, his PI (he wants him to find Glen) when a very irate Terese comes calling to his room. She isn't at all amused to find out he hasn't left for the airport and demands that he does just that (he does say that his flight has left)! After Paul explains why he's still there, she is very sceptical that he even saw Glen and instead thinks he is going to plan "some meaningless romantic gesture?!"
TERESE: You said that you would stay away from me and give me space.
PAUL: Yes, and I would have.
TERESE: (irate) WELL I NEED YOU TO LEAVE!
PAUL: (very irate) I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU NEED TERESE! This isn't about you! This is about ME AND WHAT I WANT!!!
Terese takes a moment before she responds and when it does, its confirmation [to her] why she can't be with Paul. Paul begs that he is "sorry" but she's had enough and wants him to leave. "No!" is the blunt response, as Paul plans on staying until he "finds my brother."
Number 26
Roxy has come up with a plan to keep Sheila off the scent of what is really wrong with Kyle, by telling her they've got "sex problems." Kyle isn't at all amused when he finds out and even less so when she starts to give advice (alternative places where they can have sex!)
The pair get a wee break when Sheila head inside for some questions they should be asking each other (apparently they don't know how to ask the "hard" questions!). This allows Roxy to explain why she came up with this plan and [again] wants him to come clean with Sheila, but Kyle is standing firm, refusing to tell.
ROXY: Well I guess we're going to have to keep playing along babe.
KYLE: Great!
Queensland (Pier)
"Terese had a right to know," is Lucy's justification of why she has annoyed her brother by telling his wife! "I was going to tell her in my time," Paul explains buy Lucy is standing by what she did, her priority being keeping Terese focused on the conference rather than "getting caught up in your scheming!"
PAUL: This is not part of some evil plan Lucy.
LUCY: Oh, you're whole life is some evil plan Paul!
PAUL: I am serious about trying to find Glen alright! I've got John, my PI on to it and what, you think I was just phoning Hillary for fun before?!
Lucy tries to tell Paul that Glen "has been gone 30 years" and doesn't think it likely he'd turn up either in a place where neither of them live. Regardless of the odds, Paul still wants a shot at finding Glen. She wonders why he wants to do that, pointing out that he never "got along with him?"
PAUL: I've got plenty of regrets you know. Glen is in a wheelchair because of me.
LUCY: It's not your fault that Glen fell off the hotel roof. It was an accident.
PAUL: Yes, but I asked him to go up there. And regardless, its what happened afterwards is what I regret the most. I know it's a long shot, but you know, if he is here, I've got a chance to make things right again. Don't you think it's worth finding out for sure Lucy?
Number 30
Hendrix is very much surprised to see Toadie home, when he comes out of Mackenzie's bedroom to raid the fridge. What Hendrix was after (the chocolate sauce) is claimed back by Toadie (he wants a sundae)... however after Mackenzie also comes out to check if Hendrix got the chocolate sauce, Toadie decides to buy one from Harold's instead!
Queensland (beach)
As 'Strategy' starts up, Terese takes a paddle in the sea... while drinking the contents of her hip flask. After a bit of swaying, a very emotional Terese sits down on the sand and takes her wedding ring off before drinking more from the hip flask.
Number 26
Kyle and Roxy sit bemused as Sheila hands over 'pleasure points 101' to them before heading back inside for a surprise! "This is too much," Kyle declares, however Roxy admits to "learning" from what has been said to them.
KYLE: You shouldn't even be listening... that's my grandmother!
He also thinks Sheila is going to be watching them "like a hawk" now she thinks she knows what the problem is. Again, Roxy wants to come clean but Kyle is having none of it, more fearful of how Sheila will react if she knows the truth! He does have an idea to get Sheila off their back and asks that Roxy follows his lead when Sheila returns.
The surprise Sheila had was a selection of aphrodisiacs - oysters, strawberries and chocolate! Kyle has a better solution to their bedroom woes - that Sheila gives them some space by heading to Frankston for a few days. The plan works, as Sheila plans to call Jackie right away!
Thankfully she's left when Kyle gets a text from the hospital - tips on how to prep for surgery. Roxy suggests discussing it at #22, but Kyle goes all cold on her.
ROXY: I know you're trying to be strong, but you don't have to go through all of this on your own. I'm your girlfriend.
KYLE: If it was too much babe, I'd tell you. Seriously, I've got this... okay.
ROXY: Alright... if that's how you want to go about it.
Queensland (beach)
Glen spots Terese lying on the sand and asks if she is okay. Coming to, and in her still drunken state, she thinks it's Paul who is standing before her.
TERESE: You've ruined my life!
Glen says that they don't know each other, he is simply helping her and he assists in getting Terese to her feet. Eventually she realises that it isn't Paul and Glen offers to walk her back to her room in the hotel. Terese rejects the offer, citing that she's "fine" and gathering her bag, starts walking towards the hotel. Glen picks up the stuff that she forgot to take and follows a few paces behind her to make sure she gets safely back.
Queensland (Hotel)
Paul and Lucy reminisce on all the events Glen has missed out on over the years. She admits to attempting to contact him after Jim died but got nowhere.
LUCY: It's just like he fell off the face of the earth.
And tracking down Karen (an ex-girlfriend who claimed to be pregnant with his child, but it was someone else's) too proved a dead end. Paul wishes that "money and pride" hadn't come between them, although Lucy reminds him that Glen got a "settlement in the end" and hopes that it got him "a happy life."
PAUL: Be nice to know for sure wouldn't it?
Number 28
The K's are squabbling about Karl having to cover for Kyle at The 82 when Toadie arrives to invite himself and the kids for dinner! They are a bit bemused until he explains about giving Hendrix and Mackenzie space while they're in the "deep honeymoon phase." The pair are relived at knowing this news, as Susan thought they'd done something to upset them.
KARL: They obviously prefer your place to ours... I wonder why?!
SUSAN: You don't think it's because you're an incorrigible gossip who can't keep his nose out of other people's business?!
Queensland (Hotel)
Terese is woken from her drunken slumber by a knock on the door - it is Glen calling with a bottle of water for her. She's very confused by the visitor, thinking that its "room service" until he explains about meeting her on the beach earlier and walking Terese back to her room. It's all flooding back to Terese now and she comments that he "walked" while she "stumbled."
Letting Glen into her room, she apologises for the mess he found her in and feels very relieved that nobody spotted her on the way back. "Are you here for the conference?" Glen asks and Terese nods that she is. Satisfied that Terese is okay, Glen places the water on the table and is about to leave when she remembers her manners (or at least attempts to) and queries if she introduced herself to him? Turns out she didn't, so now being polite she introduces herself to him, simply as Terese.
GLEN: You can call me Don.
The Waterhole
Kyle ignores that Roxy is calling for him as he waits patiently for Karl to arrive. Karl is confused over why he was summoned to the bar, annoyed still at being dragged away from #28.
KYLE: I have testicular cancer.
Kyle adds that he is going in for surgery in a couple of days and asks Karl if he could "walk me through it." Now he know the truth, Karl is full of sympathy (as well as kicking himself), and now gets why Kyle needed the time off.
KARL: I'm here for you, whatever you need.
Queensland (Hotel)
Sitting beside the hotel pool with Glen, Terese is much more human now, even managing to crack a joke at herself before getting serious. She tries to assure him the Terese he met earlier wasn't "standard practice for me."
TERESE: I'm going through a marriage break up.
GLEN: Enough said... unless you want to say more that is? I'm all ears if you want to vent.
TERESE: It's just been excruciating. I mean I loved the man so much, but he has this bad habit of ruining people's lives.
GLEN: Sounds like it's time to cut the ties.
TERESE: I wish I could but we run a hotel together and it's a two-person show.
Rewinding, Glen brings up that she initially called him 'Paul' and if that is her husband's name? "Yes," Terese replies while nodding her head but adds that falling off the wagon is down to her alone.
GLEN: You're an alcoholic?
TERESE: Yes. I'm sorry, you don't need to hear all of this.
GLEN: You're husband sounds like a real piece of work! I hope he gets what's coming to him.
TERESE: Well Paul always comes out on top. He always has.
Number 28 (next day)
There is a welcoming committee (Toadie, Susan and Karl) ready and waiting for when Mackenzie and Hendrix eventually come out from her room! In a very sweet voice, Susan says "good morning" to the pair while Karl's eyebrows look like they should be wiggling as he says, "long time no see!"
Toadie asks if they're hungry as he's going to make pancakes for brekkie but they'd rather go to Harold's. "Feel free to come to ours after," Karl tells the pair but they've plans to return to #30 to clean Mackenzie's room. "I'm sure you can help at our place," Karl says which puzzles the pair given Mackenzie's stuff is at #30!
SUSAN: Karl and I are very happy that your relationship has progressed. I mean we want you to know that we completely support that.
KARL: You know, we're not as square as you think we are. I mean, we're cool with you 'cleaning your rooms'.
SUSAN: So don't feel that you have to hole up here all the time, you're more than welcome at our place.
The pair look like they'd rather be elsewhere than have this conversation, especially when Karl goes on about how messy Hendrix's room is at #28!
TOADIE: Try to stay on point Karl!
KARL: Don't worry about disturbing us, the man cave is soundproofed... just leave a hankie on the door!
Having more than heard enough, Toadie can't get the K's away quick enough on the pretence of showing them something outside!
MACKENZIE: I think I'm going to die.
HENDRIX: My soul's already left my body!
Queensland (headland)
Paul is frustrated John hasn't yet found Glen or anything to do with him but wants the search to carry on. Glen suddenly appears in the background and the audience shout out, 'look behind you!'
Eventually Paul gets the feeling he's being watched and turns around. From the expression on his face, he can't believe who he is seeing!
PAUL: (hesitantly) Glen?
GLEN: Its been a long time.
