Conference Hotel Exterior
Terese and Paul emerge from separate cars and greet Lucy at the entrance. Lucy tells Terese she's set her up in a nice room, so Terese heads there to freshen up before their presentation. Linking arms with Paul, Lucy says as his sister she's worried about him, but in a professional capacity she's concerned about how the presentation will go. But Paul insists everything will be fine as they always put business first. Things take a turn, though, when Lucy says she's rearranged the running order and now Paul and Terese are up first. They now only have two hours to make the changes Lucy wants. Paul knows Terese won't be happy, but they'll have to persevere.
Terese's Hotel Room
As Paul predicted, Terese isn't a happy camper when he knocks on her door and informs her of Lucy's change of plans. Terese tells Paul to just give her Lucy's notes and she'll deal with it herself, but Paul knows it's too much work for one person. So Terese says he can take the intro and conclusion and she'll refocus the section on venue hire. When Paul looks as though he's about to make himself comfortable in her room so they can work together, Terese abruptly reminds him they'll continue work on it separately. Paul says he'll email her the changes when they're done. He's slightly worried she'll feel uncomfortable working on documents centred on the Terrace considering their history there, but Terese pretends she'll be fine.
Lassiters Hotel Office
Harlow is annoyed when she finds Mick sitting on Terese's chair with his feet up on the desk. She's further frustrated when she finds out Mick's called her there so she can order him a pink vanilla drizzle cake for his birthday next week. He figures all of the staff can have their breaks extended on the day so everyone can attend the festivities!
HARLOW: Why did you apply for this job? You've never worked in a hotel in your life.
MICK: How do you know that?
HARLOW: Uh, I've just got a sixth sense about these things.
MICK: Well my occupation before this was 'professional job applicant'.
Chloe walks in and wants to know if 'Michel' just told one of their guests to cover up on their way to the pool. Harlow saves him and says that he just meant for the guest to cover themselves in sunscreen. Annoyed, Chloe asks for a private word with Harlow and shuts the door when Mick leaves. Chloe tells Harlow that Mick is a disaster waiting to happen and Harlow needs to keep an eye on him. "Sure, if that's what you want," Harlow replies with a disdainful smile. "But if you'd have given me the job, you wouldn't have been dealing with this mess." Harlow leaves and Chloe appears to be doing the math and figuring out Harlow's little resume stunt.
Terese's Hotel Room
Terese is attempting to work on her part of the presentation, but she struggles when she has a flashback to happier times between herself and Paul on the Lassiters Terrace. In the flashback Paul says how devoted he is to Terese and that he wants to spend the rest of his life "loving, protecting and worshipping" her, sealing it with a kiss. Back in the present, Terese becomes overwhelmed and gets the bottle of alcohol and flask out of her suitcase. She pours the drink into the flask and holds onto it like a lifeline.
Lassiters Hotel Foyer
David and Leo bring Isla around to visit Chloe. She 'casually' asks how Nicolette is going, mentioning they were supposed to catch up recently but then Nic gave her the cold shoulder. David says Nic might be busy, but Leo thinks she might just be annoyed in general as she wasn't happy to see him back in town. Brushing off her disappointment, Chloe figures she better spend her energy on trying to solve her Michel problem instead. Leo asks if she ever figured out how he got hired in the first place. Chloe says she thought it was an HR mix-up at first, but now she's not so sure.
Terese's Hotel Room
Lucy calls by to thank Terese for her speedy work on the presentation. She also just wanted to check in with Terese in a personal sense. Lucy doesn't know what Paul did to mess up the marriage, but whatever happens, Terese will always be her sister-in-law.
LUCY: Things are obviously worse than Paul let on. I would never have pushed you to work with him if I'd known.
TERESE: If you're worried about me being up to do this presentation-
LUCY: I'm actually just worried about you! Leave the presentation to Paul. Just take a few days off and take care of yourself.
TERESE: Honestly I've worked way too hard on this project to let Paul take all the credit.
LUCY: (smiling) There's the Terese I know and love.
Terese says she just needs a cup of tea and a few minutes to focus, so Lucy leaves her be. Once she's on her own, though, Terese fishes out the flask she hid under her pillow and takes a couple of big swigs.
Lassiters Hotel Office
Harlow slumps her way in to see Chloe after being summoned. Chloe immediately asks if Harlow put 'Michel's' resume on the wrong pile because she was upset she didn't get the job. Harlow outright denies it all, and says if she were going to swap around resumes she would have put hers there instead.
HARLOW: What do you think I get out of watching someone else get the job that I want?
CHLOE: (sardonically) The pleasure of watching me deal with him.
HARLOW: In case you hadn't noticed, he's making life hell for me as well as you. Do you think I want an incompetent manager?
Chloe mulls this over, looking as though she's not believing a word Harlow is saying. Harlow asks to be dismissed as she hasn't had her break yet, but can't help firing out a parting shot before she goes.
HARLOW: Maybe if you were less distracted by the drama in your private life you wouldn't make mistakes you'd feel the need to blame me for.
CHLOE: You're lying. I know you did this.
HARLOW: No, I'm just defending myself.
Conference Hotel Exterior
The presentation is over and Lucy congratulates Terese and Paul on a job well done. She says they're a fabulous team, causing a couple of awkward glances from the duo, but Terese does admit they killed it. Buoyed by Terese's positive comment, Paul smiles and says she deserves all the credit; he's never seen her so relaxed in a presentation. "Well maybe because I'm simply happy you're leaving," Terese retorts, not wanting to encourage any camaraderie between them. Lucy then says she'd like them both to look at the refurbishment plans for Lassiters Gold Coast, but Terese says she'll get onto it later as right now the beach is calling her name.
Lassiters Penthouse
When David returns from putting Isla down for a nap, Leo asks for his brother's thoughts on Chloe's theory about Harlow and the resumes. Leo just assumed Harlow's too much of a "good girl" to do something like that, but David admits their niece has "grown some sharp edges" recently. Surprised, Leo then wonders if Chloe could be right, but David still doesn't think Harlow would be that brazen. Harlow then appears from the elevator to spend her work break at home. The boys bring up the resume theory Chloe mentioned to them, but Harlow says it's ridiculous that Chloe is blaming her poor management skills on someone else.
LEO: You did really want that job though, right?
HARLOW: Sure, but she made it very clear she didn't consider me qualified.
LEO: So you didn't decide to do something about it?
HARLOW: Orchestrate for a dud to walk into the role? I'm the one who has to deal with him being my manager.
LEO: Yeah, well, people do crazy things when they're angry.
HARLOW: The only thing I'm angry about is the fact that Chloe's trying to blame this whole thing on me. (Smirking) She knows that in a matter of time Michel is going to self-combust, and it's going to land straight into her lap.
DAVID: You seem pretty happy about that?
HARLOW: Definitely. I'm gonna grab popcorn, take a front row seat and enjoy the show!
David and Leo look as though they're wondering where their old niece went and who this new Harlow is.
Conference Hotel Exterior
Paul's on the balcony of the hotel confirming a driver to pick him up and take him to the airport. He sees Terese (now wearing beachwear) walking downstairs and calls out to let her know he's heading home. Terese pauses briefly to glare his way, before returning on her trek towards the beach. With a sigh, Paul is about to walk indoors when he suddenly sees a man sitting on a park bench across from the hotel, staring right at him. That man also happens to look a lot like his half-brother Glen Donnelly. Freaking out, Paul rushes as fast as he can over to the park, but when he arrives there's no one there.
Lassiters Hotel Foyer
Mick finds Chloe sitting outside the hotel and asks her out of the blue if she prefers tiger, leopard or zebra print. Off Chloe's confusion, Mick explains he was thinking about redecorating the outdoor area in a jungle theme to jazz things up. Annoyed, Chloe says she'd really prefer him to learn the basics of his job first. "Sheesh, I can't have big cats but apparently you can have a cow," Mick huffs. Leo watches Mick walk off and then asks Chloe if everything is okay. Chloe sarcastically says she just loves watching her career disappear before her eyes - if she can't get rid of 'Michel' soon, she's going to look as incompetent as he is.
LEO: Well that's interesting because Harlow just said the same thing.
CHLOE: Of course she did because she planned for this to happen.
LEO: You know, Chlo, work shouldn't be this stressful. Obviously things blew up last time we worked together, but you and I make a great team. How would you feel about coming on board as my 2IC?
CHLOE: At the vineyard?
LEO: Yeah! We're expanding and we need someone creative and energetic like yourself.
CHLOE: (smirking) That's the same tune you were singing last time, Leo.
LEO: I meant it then too, but this time there's no other agenda. What do you say? Come and be my wingwoman?
Chloe doesn't quite know how to respond.
Conference Hotel Exterior
Paul is pacing the balcony, staring out at the park when Lucy finds him. She can't believe he hasn't left for the airport yet, but becomes bewildered when Paul tells her he thinks he just saw Glen. "As in our brother Glen?" she asks. Paul nods and insists Glen was sitting on the park bench not that long ago.
LUCY: Is this the story you're going with? Glen can't even walk, Paul. He would be in a wheelchair.
PAUL: I know! I can't explain it, but it's true!
LUCY: He's been missing thirty years. The chances of him turning up right when we're here?
PAUL: I don't know, stranger things have happened. But I'm going to stay here tonight so I can look for him.
But Lucy thinks her brother is just making up a tall tale so he can stay at the conference and try and woo Terese. Paul gets frustrated and says it's nothing like that. Lucy doesn't believe him, however, and thinks it's sick to use his long-lost brother as an excuse to try and get his wife back.
PAUL: Lucy I saw him! I saw him, I swear!
LUCY: Enough, Paul. I have way too much on my plate to buy into this fairytale.
PAUL: Fine! You do what you want but I am staying here till I find our brother.
Lassiters Penthouse
Harlow is on the couch with her feet up, reading a book, when Leo gets back. He thought she'd be back at work by now, but Harlow says Chloe gave her an extra fifteen minutes for babysitting Michel. Harlow then says they've got the place to themselves tonight as Paul's staying on at the conference - he didn't explain why, but Harlow thinks he might be trying to wine and dine Terese. Leo says if that's the case he hopes Paul doesn't push too hard.
HARLOW: She can look after herself.
LEO: Yeah but we both know dad's got a pretty flexible attitude towards morals if he wants something badly enough.
HARLOW: Mmm, yeah, I suppose so.
LEO: Yeah, he'll do whatever it takes. Even if it hurts people. It's a slippery slope once you go down that path, for anyone.
HARLOW: (turning to look at him) Do you know something that I don't?
LEO: I'm just pointing out how easy it is to cross the line when you want something so much.
HARLOW: I get it! Becoming a dad has made you soft. Good for you.
She nonchalantly goes back to her reading. Leo isn't impressed with her response.
Beach
Terese is enjoying a pleasant, solitary stroll along the sand. She stops to pick up a shell and then gets a phone call from Susan on her mobile. Susan has just called to check in on Terese, and Terese says she's feeling great. The presentation went well and Paul's on his way home, "so now I've got three days of sun, scenery and no Paul!" Terese thanks Susan for ringing her and says they'll catch up when she gets back.
Lassiters Hotel Office
Chloe tells Leo that she was flattered by the job offer but she can't accept. Leo thinks she's a perfect fit for the role, though, and asks what's stopping her from taking it up. Chloe mentions that she doesn't want to leave Terese in the lurch, but Leo knows there's more to the story than that.
CHLOE: There's also Nicolette. I feel like we were just starting to get somewhere, and now you've come back she's gone cold on me again.
LEO: That's probably just a coincidence.
CHLOE: I don't think it is.
LEO: She'll get used to me being back. She has to.
CHLOE: You being in the general vicinity is not the same as you being my boss.
LEO: Okay, is there anything I can say to make you change your mind?
CHLOE: I meant it when I said I'm flattered, but if I start working for you again I will not ever have a chance to fix things with Nicolette. And I want that more than anything.
Conference Hotel Exterior
Glen sits (sort of) hidden across from the hotel entrance. He sees Lucy walk out and gets a fond smile on his face. Glen stands up and takes a few steps like he wants to go over and see her, but freezes when Paul bustles out not long after. With a dark look overtaking his face, Glen quickly retreats back to his quasi-hiding spot. Paul's on the phone to Hilary, asking if she's heard anything from Glen over the years, but it sounds as though she hasn't seen him either. Glen continues to stare their way.
