No 30
Toadie has made Dee a cuppa, and apologises for asking her to go back to Byron Bay last week.
DEE: You don't have to explain.
TOADIE: No, no, no - I do. It's just, I have been through all of this before with Andrea and Heather, and then losing Sonya...
DEE: I understand, okay? It was all too much for you. And... I understand that you've probably got a lot of questions about my decision to stay with Riley.
TOADIE: Yeah. Well, your diaries helped me understand what was going on in your head. It must have been a very confusing time for you.
DEE: Yeah, it was. Still is, to be honest.
TOADIE: So how are you feeling about what we discovered? That Andrea was the actual target and not you? I'm trying to just not let it enrage me.
DEE: You know what? That's the best thing we can do.
TOADIE: What, do you seriously think that you can just let it go?
Dee shrugs as if it's obvious, and then smiles warmly.
DEE: Yeah. Why worry about things we can't change? I don't want to waste any more time on things I can't fix. And you know, we have some answers now - it's a good thing. Even though there is still one thing we don't know.
TOADIE: What, about the Zantucks?
DEE: No, Andrea. Who is she? That's the reason why I want to see her again.
No 22
Terese is telling Harlow about her own family - explaining about Imogen, Josh, Piper, Ned and Paige, and that Imogen is married to Paul's nephew, Daniel.
HARLOW: So does that make you and Paul step...?
TERESE: Don't even try and work it out!
Harlow asks Paul if the two of them could go for coffee today, but he's reluctant and makes excuses, saying he's busy.
HARLOW: There's lots I want to ask you about my father.
PAUL: Yeah, there's plenty of time for that.
HARLOW: Well, not really. I've come all this way, and you won't even talk to me.
TERESE: Paul...
PAUL: Alright, okay. Well, how about all three of us go, then, eh?
Terese says she'd just get in the way, but Paul insists she wouldn't, and rushes off, saying he'll see them at Harold's later.
No 32
Roxy is in a bikini by the pool, posing for photographs that Aaron is taking at her request. David is sunbathing nearby, and Leo emerges from the house.
ROXY: Lower - lower!
AARON (lying on the floor): Rox, I can't get any lower than this!
ROXY: I mean, you could get in the pool!
But Aaron shows her the photos, and Roxy is satisfied with the results, and posts them straight onto social media. Leo is viewing them a second later, and queries her hashtag, 'LivingMyBestLife'!
LEO: Seriously stretching some truth there.
Terese turns up, to talk to Leo and David - she explains that she's worried about Paul.
TERESE: I'm afraid that his issue with Robert is gonna lead him to keep Harlow at arm's length (...) And she's not gonna be here for very much longer. Paul's gonna regret it if he doesn't take the opportunity to get to know her.
Roxy listens in, as Terese asks the boys to talk to Paul about it. David says he'll have a word, but Leo steps in and volunteers instead, saying he owes David for landing him in it with Paul about the visit to Robert. Terese thanks Leo, and leaves. Roxy looks like she's plotting...
No 30
Toadie and Dee are still talking, and Toadie's prickly about the topic of Andrea.
TOADIE: You understand the damage that she's caused?
DEE: I know. But that doesn't explain who she is.
TOADIE: I'd rather not think about it, to be honest.
DEE: Toadie, she's identical to me. I have to know how that's possible. When I met her on the cliff, I asked her if there was any chance we could be related. She said we weren't. She said that for every person in the world, there was someone who was just like them.
TOADIE: Well, that's how we've all come to terms with it.
DEE: No, there has to be some other connection - whether it's, I dunno, biological?
TOADIE: No, according to Willow, Heather and Andrea have spoken about that at length. And apparently, that is impossible.
DEE: Well, I'm sorry, but I need to know how they can be so certain. Toadie, please just hear me out, okay? Imagine that there was someone out there who looked just like you in every way. Wouldn't you want to know more?
TOADIE: ... Yeah, I would.
DEE: Yeah. Well, that's why I need to see her.
TOADIE: Okay. Well, as long as you know what you're in for.
DEE: I do. Would you, umm, come with me?
Toadie looks incredulous.
No 22
Paul is in the garden with his laptop and a whisky, when Leo turns up.
PAUL: You've spoken to Terese.
LEO: She's worried about you - Harlow too.
PAUL: You know, she's got her father's eyes. Every time I look at her, all I can see is him staring back at me.
LEO: She's not Robert, though, Dad. You know that.
PAUL: Yeah, but she wants to talk about him, and I don't think I can.
LEO: She's your granddaughter. Look, Harlow's directly connected to one of the worst parts of your life. But that's not her fault.
PAUL: Oh, you don't think I know that?
LEO: You'll hate yourself if she goes back to England and you've shut her out. If Robert won't talk to her, she deserves to hear about him from someone who knew him.
Ramsay Street
Roxy is taking scantily-clad selfies of herself while leaning on Paul's car outside No 22. Harlow emerges from the house. Roxy claims it's her car.
ROXY: So, what's it like living at the Hellmouth?
HARLOW: You mean, Paul and Terese.
ROXY: If you say their names backwards, you spontaneously combust.
HARLOW: Well, they've actually been very kind to me.
ROXY: Don't worry - that's just phase one (...) They reel you in with this whole happy family thing, and then they stab you in the back.
HARLOW: I'm not getting that sense at all.
ROXY: Auntie T - she tried to hook up with my boyfriend. Which turned out to be her ex-boyfriend. Broke us up, and then made him take off (...) Then, before that, she got her cougar teeth into Leo - spat him out when Paul stepped in. He took Auntie T from his own son.
HARLOW: Well, thank you for telling me all this. Although, it probably wasn't your place, was it?
ROXY: Babe, I'm doing you a favour, alright? You deserve to know what kind of people they are. And I dunno why you came here, but if it's for happy families, then - I'm sorry. You're out of luck.
Harold's Café
Terese is at a table with Harlow, looking at Roxy's social media post of her posing half-naked on Paul's car. Harlow assumes that Roxy's trying to get her ex's attention, as well as get a reaction out of Terese.
TERESE: So she told you what happened.
HARLOW: Her view of it (...) She blames you for ruining her relationship.
TERESE: Harlow, whatever she told you, I had her best interests at heart, and now she's playing up.
HARLOW: Trashing other people isn't gonna make her feel better about herself.
TERESE: You know, for someone so young, you're very perceptive. You've probably noticed that your grandfather was a little uneasy earlier. All I ask is that you just give him a chance.
At this moment, Paul turns up. Fresh from his chat with Leo, he tells Harlow that she can ask him anything she wants - as confronting as it may be for him, he knows Harlow is owed some answers. Terese offers to stay, but Paul says it's fine, and sits down with Harlow.
PAUL: Where do you want to start?
No 32
Leo rejoins Aaron and David on the patio, reporting back that his chat with Paul seemed to go well, as he stopped talking in the end.
AARON: And that's a good sign?
DAVID: Whenever Dad's not arguing, it means he's listening.
Roxy approaches and boasts about how she's just told Harlow all she needed to know about Paul 'and his skank', including what they did to Leo and to her, claiming she deserved to know the truth. Everyone's annoyed with Roxy, thinking that this was unnecessary.
ROXY: Oh, come on - don't be all judgy!
But one by one, they walk off - even Leo, who tells Roxy she's taken it too far by dragging Harlow into her grudge.
Prison
A grimacing Andrea is led into the visitor room by a guard, and comes face-to-face with Dee and Toadie. She smirks at them, and sits down.
ANDREA: Don't you two make a lovely couple? (!) And if you're here to have a go at me for dating Roger Zantuck, I didn't know he was a big-time crim, okay?
TOADIE: We're not here to talk about that.
ANDREA: Oh, really? Well, I'd like to talk about that. Had cops all over me in here. Ten interviews later, they finally tell me what's going on. And by the way, I didn't know I had a target on my head, okay? If I did, I would've gone into hiding, too.
TOADIE: Dee has some other questions for you.
ANDREA: Calling yourself Dee again, are ya? Righty-o, Dee - ask away.
DEE: I want to know how it is that we can look so alike.
ANDREA: I told you that already. It's one of those freaky coincidences.
DEE: We're identical, Andrea.
ANDREA: Really? I like to think I take better care of my skin.
DEE: ... Is it possible that we're twins?
ANDREA: Twins? No.
TOADIE: How can you be so sure?
ANDREA: Look, I know my mother's a bit cuckoo. But I'm pretty sure she'd know if she gave birth to another kid!
DEE: So, we're trusting Heather now, are we?
ANDREA: Look - when Sindi told me about you, I called Mum. Asked her the same thing. She said she had one kid - me.
DEE: But what if she's lying?
ANDREA (laughs): You do realise if I came up with something that loopy in the loony bin, I'd still be there?
DEE: Both of us could've been given up for adoption by our real mother.
ANDREA: *Heather* is my real mother.
DEE: But what if somehow, she adopted you, and my parents adopted me? Have you ever considered that? I'm sorry, but I'm not prepared to accept that this is some kind of freaky coincidence.
ANDREA: Look, I've told you everything I know, Dee. I really don't know what more you want.
DEE: A DNA test. I want you to consent to giving the prison nurse a sample, so we can compare your DNA to mine.
TOADIE: If you're not prepared to give it willingly, we can just get a court order.
DEE: Sorry - whether you meant it at the time or not, I've lost sixteen years of my life because of you. You owe me.
Andrea grimaces.
Harold's Café
Harlow asks Paul what he can tell her about her father Robert.
PAUL: I wasn't really around when Robert and Cam and Elle were born. See, I'd split up with Gail by then - that's their mother, your grandmother. And she'd gone to Tasmania to start a life without me, so...
HARLOW: So you weren't there when they were young?
PAUL: No.
HARLOW: Well, can you tell me anything at all about him?
PAUL: Well, Gail always said that he was different.
HARLOW: What kind of different?
PAUL: I dunno, strange. You see, the triplets really resented me for not being there for them. But it was Robert who felt it the most.
Paul is becoming emotional.
PAUL: And, uh, when we finally did meet, I... I couldn't even relate to him. He did things to me...
Paul's voice breaks, and he apologises.
HARLOW: It's alright. We don't have to talk about it.
But Paul can't even look at Harlow anymore, and gets up to leave.
No 32
Harlow is chatting to Leo, David and Aaron, and explaining that Paul took off and left when they got to talking about Robert. David says they know Roxy has been talking to her too, and not to let that influence her.
HARLOW: Don't worry - I've got Roxy figured out. Look, every family has issues. I mean, you haven't seen drama until you've met my mum. Anyway, I'm more worried about Paul; I'm not sure he's ever gonna be able to talk about Robert.
Leo says Paul isn't great with emotional stuff; it took him in particular a while to connect with Paul, but eventually they bonded over a passion for business. Harlow says she knows nothing about business.
LEO: No, but you've got guts, Harlow - and that's something that Dad can relate to.
DAVID: He'll open up. It might just take a bit of time.
Prison
Dee is looking worried as she and Toadie get a drink from the vending machine. Toadie says it's not too late to change her mind about the DNA test; but Dee says Andrea's agreed, so she has to try.
DEE: I figure DNA's one thing she can't lie about, right?
He doesn't answer that! But he does say that if Dee and Andrea are related, it could open a huge can of worms; Heather and Andrea are only one side of this.
DEE: Yeah, I know. I had such good parents. I'd hate to think that they'd deceived me in any way.
TOADIE: Well, you don't have to jump to any conclusions just yet.
DEE: Well, how can I not? This has got me questioning everything - my birth, my childhood. My entire upbringing might not be what I thought it was. Look, if someone has lied to me, I need to know who. And if Heather has lied in any way, then I think Andrea deserves it, too.
Toadie says the results could take weeks, so she can change her mind at any time.
DEE: I'm fine; but I need to do this.
Dee decides to go for some air while they wait, and asks Toadie if he wants to come, but he says he'll stay to observe Andrea's DNA test.
TOADIE: DNA's a bit of a sensitive topic for me when it comes to Andrea (...) She once tricked me into believing that I was Willow's father.
DEE: Oh - you never said.
TOADIE: Yeah, well, there's a lot you don't know about these two. But I'm not gonna let the same thing happen again. I'm gonna watch her like a hawk.
The Waterhole
Roxy is Skyping a friend back home about that 'waste of space' Vance, while digging for info on whether the friend has heard from him. Terese comes in, and sees Roxy putting on a front for the friend.
ROXY: Who cares? Vance was an A-grade loser... Seriously, the best thing that he did for me was ditch me. I'm finally driving with the handbrake off... Oh, umm, I've gotta go. The girls are coming back...
But Roxy is all alone at the bar, with no 'girls' in sight, cutting a fairly lonely figure. Terese looks concerned for her niece.
Prison
Andrea returns, with the prison nurse, Jenny Lonergan, and asks Toadie...
ANDREA: Where's Lazarus?
TOADIE: ...
ANDREA: Where's Dee?
TOADIE: She's stepped out for some air.
ANDREA: Well, the warden's given her approval. I'll give you a sample. You can watch.
Andrea smirks. Toadie tells the nurse that they need to organise a DNA sample from Heather, too.
ANDREA: Oh, yeah. Well, if she thinks it'll get her out of here sooner, I'm pretty sure she'll be happy to do that.
TOADIE: Thank you.
ANDREA: You know, none of this is easy on me, either. I'm a victim in this, too.
Toadie watches carefully as the nurse takes two swabs from Andrea's mouth, then walks towards the door.
ANDREA: Toad... Toadie?
He turns around.
ANDREA: Give Hugo a kiss for me, yeah?
TOADIE: ... No.
Andrea looks upset as he goes.
No 30
Back at the house, Toadie tells Dee that the prison has called; Heather has agreed to give a DNA sample too.
DEE: Thank you. And thank you for coming, too.
TOADIE: I understand why you had to do it.
DEE: Yeah. This DNA test is the only real way to know anything for sure. So - now we wait.
TOADIE: Yeah, we wait. And we don't think about it until we have to.
DEE: Fine by me.
Awkward silence.
DEE: Okay, then.
TOADIE: Yeah. Look, if you're not ready to, you know, catch up properly, we don't have to.
DEE: Oh, no, no - not at all. I am, if you are.
TOADIE: Yeah, yeah - I'm totally up for it. I mean, not that there's a rush.
DEE: We've got plenty of time.
It's still awkward, so Dee suggests they start catching up tomorrow. Toadie agrees; it will give him a chance to think about where they could actually start.
DEE: I've been thinking about that, actually. I'd really like to go back to Werribee Mansion.
TOADIE: ...
DEE: You know, relive our wedding day. If that's okay with you.
TOADIE: ... Yeah. No, Werribee's good. Werribee it is.
No 22
Paul is working on his laptop, when Harlow comes in. He apologises for leaving the café so abruptly earlier.
HARLOW: It's alright. We don't have to talk about it.
Paul decides they should order takeaway, but Harlow is more interested in the chess set. She explains she's a founding member of her chess club at her school.
PAUL: Well, fair warning, I'm a bit of a master myself.
HARLOW: Hmm, overconfident. That's exactly how I like my victims.
Paul looks briefly uncomfortable, but Harlow challenges him to game, and they get started.
No 30
Dee is helping Toadie cook dinner; she enthuses about the prospect of going to Werribee Mansion again after all these years.
DEE: Have you been back?
TOADIE: ... No. I... no.
DEE: Well, that's alright - we'll face it together, tomorrow.
Toadie can't bring himself to tell her that he went to Werribee with Andrea two years ago, while she was pretending to be Dee. However, while Toadie takes a phone call, Yashvi comes in. Dee explains that they're heading to Werribee tomorrow to relive their wedding day.
YASHVI: Score! I'm glad you get to go as well.
DEE: What do you mean?
YASHVI: Well, it totally messed with his head when Andrea tricked him into going back and reliving all that stuff. I didn't think he'd want to go again.
Dee looks concerned that Toadie has lied to her...
