Kyle's all ready to turn around and leave again, having wrecked Gary's romantic proposal, but Gary tells him to come in. Gary hugs Kyle. It's really awkward for everyone.

AMY: It's good to see you.
KYLE: Yeah, you too.
GARY: Well, I'll put the kettle on!

Erinsborough Backpackers'
Piper comes to see Leo; she says the memorial for Josh was sad but good, that she sorted things out with Imogen, and that she got some clarity about some 'other stuff'.

PIPER: I need to leave for a while. I just need to shake things up a bit.
LEO: Yeah. I mean, I'm keen if you are; I haven't been on a holiday in ages.
PIPER: I need to do this on my own... I will forever be grateful for our friendship, but taking things further I think was a mistake. I mean, you were there for me when no-one else was; Xanthe had gone away, and Mum was busy with Paul. And I was really lonely. But that's not a good enough reason to be with someone. And that's not fair on you, either.
LEO: Yeah... I guess I just didn't see this coming.
PIPER: I know. I'm sorry... I promised Mum that I'd spend my last night with her.
LEO: What? Are you leaving tomorrow?

Piper nods.

PIPER: It'd be really good if you came and saw me off.
LEO: ... Yeah, sure. Sure, I'll be there.

No 26
Amy comes to join Gary in the kitchen as he makes the tea; Gary had no idea that Kyle was coming.

GARY: He was your boyfriend.
AMY: You're my fiancé.
GARY: ... Is that a yes?
AMY: Of course.

He kisses her, but Amy looks a bit flustered. Kyle's still in the living room, and Sheila comes through the front door. She's super-excited and surprise to see Kyle, and gives him a big hug, as Gary and Amy come back through to join them.

SHEILA: You look wonderful - I have missed this face! And Georgia - where is she?
KYLE: ... We broke up.
SHEILA: Oh.
GARY: Mate, that's rough.

Kyle says he's fill them in tomorrow; right now he needs to crash. Sheila offers to make up the spare room, but Kyle explains he's staying at Lassiter's. He explains it's part of the deal Paul's offered him - to take on Amy's old job managing Robinson Pines! Amy's annoyed as she wasn't told, but Kyle says they'll have a few weeks to sort out the handover, before quickly ducking out of the door.

No 22
Imogen and Ned are talking about what Piper's plans might be - she hasn't said yet where she's going, or for how long. Ned wonders if she'll go overseas; Imogen thinks she might head to Queensland to take up her uni place.

Piper and Terese come in. Piper says she can tell Terese isn't keen on her leaving. Terese says she respects the decision, but that there's a selfish part of her that wishes she could change Piper's mind. Imogen won't be here for long, and Terese is going to find it hard with no kids left.

PIPER: This was always gonna happen, Mum; we knew that. And it's just something I have to do.
TERESE: Yeah, but does it have to happen today?

But Piper says she doesn't want to be talked out of it; it's today or never.

No 26
Sheila and Gary are speculating about Kyle's break-up with Georgia. Sheila is surprised, as last time she spoke to Georgia, everything was fine. Sheila congratulates Gary on the engagement, but Gary admits that Kyle walking in at the critical moment has taken the shine off things somewhat; Amy's acceptance afterwards felt like an afterthought.

SHEILA: She wouldn't have said yes if she didn't mean it.

Amy herself comes in; she's annoyed that Paul is ignoring her calls. Gary and Amy suspect that Paul has offered Kyle a job purely in the hope that he'll come between Gary and Amy, and they decide to go round and confront Paul about it.

Paul's Penthouse
Paul is doing his charmingly innocent routine, and assures Amy and Gary that he has no ulterior motive for offering Kyle the job. Amy and Gary are sceptical; but Paul says he wanted someone with connections to local tradies, and that Kyle has been doing major work on German autobahns, which qualifies him for the job. Plus, hiring a 'local boy come good' will be good PR, he adds.

AMY: You have wasted your time and money. Because Gary proposed to me last night, and I said yes.

Paul quickly launches into a false 'couldn't be happier' routine, shaking Gary by the hand etc. But Amy is still looking sceptical.

Lassiter's Lake
Piper is paying one last visit to the book exchange, to drop off a load of books before she leaves. Terese and Imogen turn up; Terese starts offering to micromanage various aspects of Piper's departure, but Piper says that everything is sorted. She's spoken to Toadie, and he's happy for Imogen to look after the law office until he gets back. Terese reluctantly heads off to work.

IMOGEN: Wow. She is not coping well.
PIPER: I know. She will - she'll be okay... Look, about Finn - obviously I don't agree with your decision. But it's huge and brave, what you're doing. I couldn't do it. So I really admire you for that.
IMOGEN: Well, what you're doing is really brave, too. No, Piper - it is. You've always been like that. It's what I admire about you. Maybe even what I'm a little jealous of. So I guess we know why we have our issues.
PIPER: Immy, you're my big sister. What you've thought has always mattered to me. Sometimes it's just hard to hear it. Especially when it makes perfect sense.

They hug.

Harold's Café
Kyle is introducing himself to Shane, Dipi and Yashvi, saying he's heard loads about them from Toadie.

Terese and Paul come in; Terese is worrying that Piper is leaving because of their relationship. Paul says that both their kids are adults now; they have to live their own lives. Which is ironic, as he's still meddling in Amy's; and speaking of which, he calls Kyle over to say hello. Terese is surprised that Paul didn't say anything about hiring Kyle, and quickly starts to realise what Paul is up to...

The Waterhole
Kyle is explaining to Gary and Sheila that his life with Georgia in Germany simply hasn't worked out.

KYLE: It just wasn't what we expected. We didn't have any friends; we only really had each other. I guess we just couldn't hack it.
SHEILA: But you didn't say anything when we were talking on the phone.
KYLE: I didn't want you to worry, Gran (...) When Paul called about the job, it was perfect timing.

He isn't sure whether he'll stick around after the development is finished, but he says he wants to settle down somewhere, and that he has missed Erinsborough. But Gary is giving Kyle a dirty look.

GARY: I'm sorry to hear about you and Georgia, and I'm glad you're back, mate, honestly. But this is really awkward. I hope you haven't come back thinking you can have another crack at Amy.
SHEILA: Oh, Gary! He's just gone through a devastating break-up!
KYLE: No, it's okay, Gran.
SHEILA: No, it's not!
GARY: I only ask because Paul is not hot on us at all, and both Ames and me thought getting you back here was his way of stirring up trouble.
KYLE: Paul never mentioned either of you. It was all about the job. And Gran told me about you guys, and it's fine. Maybe a little weird - especially after what I walked into last night. I'll get used to it.

Kyle apologises for his timing last night. Gary says there's no harm done; Amy said yes to his proposal, and that's what counts. Kyle congratulates him, and then everyone goes awkward and quiet again.

No 22
Piper is having an obligatory final-episode-flashback moment; she recalls the day she first arrived in Ramsay Street (Episode 7213), interrupting an almighty family row between Brad, Terese, Josh and Imogen.

PAST PIPER: Welcome back, me(!)

Back in the present, Terese appears, and Piper tells her what she was thinking about - admitting she didn't make things any easier when she turned up.

PIPER: Do you think I'm a brat.
TERESE: Yeah. Yeah, I do. But, you know, you're my brat. And I wouldn't have you any other way. Can you be honest with me?
PIPER: Always have been.
TERESE: This whole business with Leo and Paul the last few months - it can't have been easy for you. Is that why you're leaving?
PIPER: No. It's for me - I'm leaving because of me. But since you've brought up Paul (...) since you guys have been together, it's like you're a different person.
TERESE: I'm still the same!
PIPER: He's never here, Mum. Like, you're always at his.
TERESE: So?
PIPER: So, my mum would never let a man call the shots like that - drop everything and run at a minute's notice.
TERESE: Look, Paul and I have always played power games. We're just simply navigating a new dynamic.
PIPER: Oh, it's more than that, though. Can you really say that you're happy?

Harold's Café
Gary comes in for a coffee, and is annoyed to find that Dipi, Shane and Yashvi are all talking about his proposal to Amy. He reacts miserably when he realises they're all discussing it, and even more so when Yashvi opines that Kyle is 'hot'. When Amy comes in, Yashvi asks her outright if she said yes. Amy confirms that she did, and is surprised that Gary hasn't told them himself.

Gary takes Amy aside and admits that Kyle coming in last night ruined his plans for a romantic proposal; so Amy suggests they do it again! Shane, Dipi and Yashvi crowd around to observe, as Amy takes her ring off and gives it back to Gary.

AMY: I don't need some fancy proposal. Here.
GARY: Amy Williams - you know that I love you, and that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you be my wife?
AMY: Yes.

He puts the ring back on again, and they kiss. The Rebecchis all whoop and cheer.

Ramsay Street
Paul, Terese, Ned and Imogen are gathered to see Piper off. Paul's already talking about Terese coming over to the penthouse afterwards, but Terese says she's going to stay here tonight; Paul's welcome to join her. He says he has a few things on, but will let her know!

Piper emerges from No 24, having said her goodbyes to the Brennans, who are Not In This Episode™. She's momentarily distracted by a text message from Leo, saying he's not coming - and then begins to say her farewells. She hugs Ned first.

PIPER: I'm so glad that you came back down here. It's been so good having my big brother around. Even if you do hog all the hot water.
NED: Oh, well, I won't miss the wet towels on the bathroom floor. Or the sass.

Piper gives the keys to Hermione the car back to her original owner, Imogen, saying she'll be needing Hermione while she's here.

PIPER: I've taken very good care of her.
IMOGEN: I'd expect nothing less. And I want constant updates, okay? Love you.
PIPER: Love you.

They hug.

PIPER: Now, Paul - I know I'm not gonna be here, but I'm gonna still here about what's going on, okay? So if you hurt my mum, I will find out. And it won't be pretty.
PAUL: I'll be on my best behaviour. You don't have to worry.

They almost hug, but end up not doing!

PIPER (tearful): Don't start, Mum, cos I won't be able to stop.
TERESE: Hey, listen - wait, wait. I just want you to know how proud I am of you. I always have, and always will be. Love you.
PIPER: I love you.

They hug, both crying now, and Piper gets into a car - it's not entirely clear whose! - and is driven away from Ramsay Street.

PIPER: Farewell, me!

No 22
Terese looks around her house, fondly settling on a picture of her and Piper. Feeling emotional, she sits on the couch, picks up her phone, and watches a classic episode of Pipe Up!

PIPER (vlog): Sometimes life hits you with a blow so hard, it can feel completely pointless. Like you're lost in the dark, and unable to connect. But then I watch people I love, and I see the strength it takes to get back on your feet.
Terese smiles.

The Waterhole
Leo is moping at the bar with a drink. Kyle enters, and joins Gary and Amy at a table, who are being all lovey-dovey following the second proposal. It's awkward all over again. Gary asks if Kyle wants to join them, but he jokes that he doesn't want to ruin their moment again - and heads off elsewhere.

Ned comes in, and joins Leo at the bar.

NED: Piper's gone. She was a bit disappointed that you didn't show up. I suppose it would've been more difficult if you two were serious.
LEO: Yeah, well, it's a bit late for that. I thought I could keep things casual, but it turned out I wanted more. And then Piper made it pretty clear that we should have never hooked up in the first place.
NED: That sucks.
LEO: Yeah. I couldn't bring myself to see her off, but... I wish I did. Hey, mate - do you know where she went? She wouldn't tell me.
NED: Honestly, mate, I have no idea.

But Ned looks like he may have more of an idea than he's letting on.

Dunstan Garden Apartments, Adelaide
Piper knocks at a door nervously. Tyler opens it. They both smile.

PIPER: Hi.
TYLER: Hi.
PIPER: I missed you.
TYLER: I missed you, too. Please - come in.

She walks through the open door, and they smile at one another again.

Lassiter's
Kyle is in his room, talking business with Paul, who seems enthusiastic about Kyle's new job.

KYLE: To be honest, I'm half-stoked, half-surprised that you're taking a risk on me (...) I wanted to ask you something.
PAUL: Sure. Anything.
KYLE: If you getting me back to Erinsborough isn't just about Robinson Pines?
PAUL: Why - what else could it be?
KYLE: Amy and Dad thought I might be here to stir up trouble between the two of them.
PAUL: Yeah, they mentioned that to me, too.
KYLE: I set them straight. I came back for the project - nothing else.
PAUL: Yes, because that's what you would believe. Because up until now, I haven't exactly been upfront with you. Kyle, of course I offered you the job to break them up! You are the only one that can do it.

Kyle looks frustrated.
