Ramsay Street
Terese doesn't want everything to end on a sour note and begs Leo to stay and talk, but Leo's too hurt. He walks off with his bag just as Piper arrives home. Confused, Piper asks what happened and Terese quietly replies that she broke up with Leo.
Harold's Café
The place is packed for Valentine's Day so Yashvi asks Karl and Gary if they mind sharing a table. The men are slightly awkward around one another, Karl confessing he usually takes Susan on a V-Day lunch date at the café every year. Yashvi tells them if they're thinking about heading to the drinks at The Waterhole they better get in fast as it'll be quite busy.
Elly and Chloe are getting a coffee and chatting about Elly's seating plan for the wedding. Chloe offers to help Elly write out the place cards, but when Mel walks in and says she's heading to the beach, Chloe appears as though she wants to join her. Elly encourages Chloe to head out with Mel instead.
Number 22
Terese admits to Piper she's been having doubts about Leo for a while. She loved him and hoped it would work out between them but after he proposed she couldn't see it lasting between them. Piper can't help asking her mum what this means in terms of Paul, but Terese feigns ignorance.
TERESE: What about Paul?
PIPER: He was the first person you went to see after you heard about Sonya.
TERESE: Because he understands what I went through.
PIPER: So do I. So does Gary. But you didn't come to any of us. So did you just break up with Leo because you still have feelings for Paul?
Terese pauses but then says her only concern is how much she's hurt Leo. She wants to go and talk to him but Piper thinks Leo needs some space.
Garage
Bea's frantically cleaning because the new manager arrives tomorrow and she wants to make a good impression, but Ned thinks she needs to chill out and relax. It doesn't take too much to persuade Bea to have a break and they start to kiss.
Beach
Mel and Chloe banter about Mel's rust bucket of a car before conversation turns to more serious matters. Mel asks why Chloe kept the Christmas card for Elly when she knew her feelings weren't reciprocated.
MEL: I'm not trying to put you on the spot, I'm only asking because I've been there myself.
CHLOE: Is this about what happened with us?
MEL: No, no, we were pretty straightforward. Look, crushing on your straight friend is more common than you think. My experience with it hasn't been great.
CHLOE: It hasn't been easy to see her all the time.
MEL: And you want to move on but the other person won't stop being awesome and right in front of you... totally off limits.
Chloe's surprised, and appreciative, of how much Mel understands her struggle.
Lassiters Complex
Paul is puzzled when he sees Leo lurking about - he thought he'd be away with Terese by now. Leo sadly says that Terese broke up with him. Paul's sympathetic and asks what happened and Leo replies that the proposal was a bad idea. Paul says Leo hasn't done anything wrong but Leo says there's no one else to blame.
Garage
Ned and Bea's clothes are strewn everywhere while they get it on inside the work van. Their moment is ruined, though, when someone knocks on the garage door and calls out for whoever's inside. Butt-naked, Ned leaps out of the van, wraps something around himself for modesty and opens the door to shoo the customer away. But the guy turns out to be Heath Kabel, new manager. Heath can't help smirking at Ned and Bea's predicament and says he'll give them a moment to get dressed.
Beach
Mel comments on how much Chloe's grown up from her wilder days but thinks there's an extra sadness to her lately. Chloe decides it's time to tell Mel her secret and divulges about her Huntington's disease. But Chloe's tickled when Mel simply replies with, "That sucks." Mel wonders if she's said something wrong when Chloe laughs, but Chloe says it's quite the opposite.
CHLOE: I guess I was just waiting for the usual 'poor Chloe' response I get from everyone else.
MEL: Well does that help?
CHLOE: Not at all.
MEL: Then there you go. I mean yeah, it's crap, and you don't deserve it but what are you going to do? Curl up in a ball and feel sorry for yourself? That's not you.
Chloe smiles and agrees with her.
Garage
Now fully dressed, Bea and Ned are apologetic to Heath for what happened. Bea in particular is mortified and assures her new manager this isn't what she usually gets up to at work! But Heath's found the whole situation pretty funny and tells Bea that he's not going to hold it against her - especially since he wasn't supposed to turn up until tomorrow anyway. As an added bonus, Heath says he'll hold the fort for the rest of the day so Bea and Ned can enjoy Valentine's Day.
Beach
Mel wants Chloe to hang out for a bit longer but Chloe says she has to head back to work or Terese will be mad. Chloe admits she's had a really nice time hanging out. Mel smiles and says she has too.
The Penthouse
Paul stands nearby while Piper has a commiserative chat with Leo. He asks if Piper knew the breakup was coming, but Piper says all she knows is that Terese really wanted it to work out between them.
LEO: Not enough apparently.
PIPER: I think it was the proposal that forced her hand.
LEO: Forced her hand? That sounds like it's been building for a while.
PIPER: I don't know...
LEO: No it was all that Delaney stuff wasn't it.
PIPER: All I know is that mum's hurting right now too. And she loved you, Leo. That was real.
LEO: Then it really is all on me. I'm the one who wrecked this.
Paul says he's been trying to get Leo to stop beating himself up about it and Piper agrees. It's not about anything terrible Leo's done, it's just that sometimes things aren't meant to be. Leo doesn't look comforted by this fact.
Garage
Mel is looking for Bea and doesn't appear keen to give Heath the time of day until he lets slip that he's the new manager. All of a sudden Mel's all smiles and apologises to Heath for her rudeness, introducing herself properly to him.
Number 22
Piper arrives home and finds Terese all dressed up. She sighs when Terese says she wants to go and speak to Leo because he hasn't answered any of her calls. Piper says she's just been to see him and he's not in a good way, especially since he's blaming himself for everything. Terese looks guilty. Piper suggests they have a girls night in but Terese wants to head into the Valentine's Day function because working will keep her mind off everything.
The Penthouse
Paul's trying to coax Leo into having a drink downstairs with him. Leo's keen to wallow in his own misery all night but Paul reminds him he's been there done that lately and it didn't help him. Leo sighs and gives in.
Number 24
Elly asks Chloe how her day went with Mel and seems surprised when Chloe says how nice it was. Speaking of Mel, she pops by because she left her towel in Chloe's bag. There's an awkward moment when Chloe asks if Mel wants to keep her company at the Waterhole event and Elly thinks she's asking her. Embarrassed, Elly pretends she was joking about coming with her. Chloe stammers and says that Elly can totally come along too, which earns an unseen eyebrow raise from Mel, but Elly declines and says Mark will be home soon.
The Waterhole
Bea and Ned giggle at one another as they set up for Bea's gig. Ned jokes that Bea should dedicate her first song to her new manager.
BEA: Yeah right! 'Hey this one goes out to Heath. Thanks for turning the other cheek after you saw my boyfriend's cheeks!'
Meanwhile, Karl and Gary are suited up and are sharing yet another cosy table together for the day. They admit it's a bit weird being there without partners but Gary says this is much more preferable than spending a night at home with Sheila and Clive. Karl smiles and compliments Gary on his tie.
Bea wishes the crowd a happy Valentine's Day and starts singing 'I Say A Little Prayer'. Mel and Chloe walk in as she begins and Leo and Paul are at the bar. Leo isn't sure being out and about is helping but he's grateful for his dad's company. Paul freezes when Terese walks in and Leo turns around, upset to see her. Paul tells his son they don't have to stay but Leo says it's fine. Chloe and Mel clock the weird vibes between Terese and Leo. Chloe checks to see if Terese is okay but Terese just smiles and says Chloe did a great job with the decorations.
Bea finishes up her song (and Gary gives Karl a peck on the cheek) as Terese wanders over to Paul and Leo. Paul doesn't think now's a good time for her to be there, but Leo tells his dad it's okay and asks for a moment to chat with Terese alone.
LEO: Terese I know I brought a lot of chaos to your life, but underneath it all I thought we had something solid.
TERESE: I tried to make it work, I really did I want you to know that.
LEO: The fact you had to try... It wasn't an effort for me at all.
TERESE: You are one of the most beautiful human beings; you're a good man.
LEO: Yeah... right. But not good enough.
TERESE: Leo...
LEO: Terese it's fine, I get it. Nothing either of us say can change anything. At the end of the day you just didn't love me enough.
TERESE: I'm sorry.
Upset, Terese glances at Paul before walking away. Leo takes another drink, watching her leave.
Number 24
Chloe and Mel are having a drink in Chloe's room. They talk about the nice day they had and Chloe jokes that Mel shouldn't get a big head, but her reaction to Chloe's Huntington's diagnosis has been the best by far. Seizing the moment, Chloe leans in for a kiss but Mel turns away. She reminds Chloe she doesn't want a 'casual hook up thing' but Chloe says this isn't what this is. She puts their drinks down and starts to kiss Mel as they fall back onto the bed.
Terese's Office
Paul drops by to see Terese, telling her the clean up is all done at the pub.
PAUL: Can you believe that Karl and Gary were the last two on the dance floor?
But he can see Terese isn't in a joking mood and asks why she broke Leo's heart. Terese replies that in actual fact she was trying to protect him, "I had to call things off before we got any deeper." Paul says Leo's blaming himself and Terese says she feels terrible for allowing him to believe that, but she couldn't tell him the truth.
PAUL: What exactly is the truth?
TERESE: What do you want me to say? Maybe I couldn't get past our history? Yours and mine.
PAUL: You know I have done everything I can to stay out of the way of you two.
TERESE: It's not your fault. When Leo proposed and I saw you, I couldn't stop thinking about us.
She wraps her arms around his neck and leans in to kiss him, but Paul backs away saying he can't do this anymore. Paul walks out... but only moments later changes his mind, strides back in and kisses Terese.
