- Steph telling Paige that Lucas is bringing Adam for another visit
- The Brennans finding out Russell wasn't Tyler's biological father
- The Brennan brothers fixing the model boat Tyler smashed
- Toadie gathering the Brennan brothers to read Russell's will
Number 24
The Brennans muse over what surprise is awaiting them in Russell's will. Aaron thinks whatever it is it can't be good, and Tyler assumes he'll just be left out of it altogether. They then half-heartedly joke that it could be the announcement of a "surprise sibling". Given that it's not Brad or Paul's will, they should be safe.
Harold's Café
Steph and Ben stop and chat with Paige and Jack (and Gabe). They're waiting on Lucas to drop off Adam and then they're going to have a picnic at the nursery. Steph invites Paige and Jack along, and while Paige readily accepts, Jack is evasive and says he has something else on at the Backpackers. But he throws oblivious Steph a longing look from the doorway before he leaves.
Number 24
Toadie stresses to the boys that Russell hadn't updated his will in a while so at the time his only assets were the garage and the house. Tyler's like, 'it's all good, we know I'm not included', but the other two assure him that anything they receive they'll spilt evenly. Toadie starts reading and they discover that Russell left Fay a pair of old boots and Chloe a leather jacket as an act of spite for moving away from the family.
TOADIE: To my son, Mark Brennan, who told me he didn't want anything from me, I leave my fishing rods.
MARK: I used to go fishing with him when I was little.
Toadie then drops the bombshell that Russell has left the rest of his assets to Aaron and Tyler to be split evenly between them. But that's not all - before Russell went to hospital he sold everything and sank the money into a boat.
AARON: So what exactly does this all mean for us?
TOADIE: All of Russell's assets are tied up in that boat. And the lawyers have estimated that its approximate value, once the repairs are completed, is half a million dollars. As the two main beneficiaries that goes to you two. It's been delivered to Melbourne this morning.
Tyler and Aaron are shocked and Mark tries to disguise the hurt he's feeling.
Number 32 Backyard
Dipi and Mishti are setting up for the pool party (membership to The Shed apparently comes with a free drink bottle & a bout of hypothermia), but Mishti's worried they won't get a big turnout (again, just a thought, maybe because IT'S FREEZING). Dipi not so subtly suggests that Mishti invite Leo along, but Mishti says he won't be keen because she turned his date down.
DIPI: Come on, one date couldn't hurt.
MISHTI: I'd spend the whole time thinking about Xander.
DIPI: I get that it's hard, but maybe the only way you're going to move past those feelings is getting back on the dating horse... as they say.
MISHTI: (laughing) The dating horse? I definitely haven't heard that one before.
Sonya's Nursery
Steph introduces Adam to Paige and Gabe, and then shows him the remote control cars Ben has brought along to play with. Adam gives a car a test run and Steph says the boys could have a friendly competition.
Boat Dock
The Brennan brothers have driven down to the marina where Russell's boat is located. Tyler and Aaron seem excitable but Mark is very quiet.
TYLER: Oh my god, it's named after you, bro!
AARON: (looking at the name on the boat) Show Pony. Haha, very funny.
Tyler and Aaron tell Mark that they can sell the boat and split it four ways between them and Chloe, but Mark broodily says they don't have to sell it.
AARON: You know you would have been included in this too. Dad wrote the will when you didn't follow him into the family business. He was just upset.
MARK: If he wanted to change the will he would have. He had plenty of opportunities.
AARON: Come on, you know he was hopeless with this sort of thing.
MARK: He made his wishes very clear! I'm not going to challenge that.
Mark adds that his brothers need the money more than him anyway considering how hopeless they are with finances (not 'fiancées' as I nearly accidentally typed - joke would've been on you then, Marky Mark). He leaves the boys to explore the boat while he goes to wait in the car.
Later, while sitting on the boat, Tyler tells Aaron that the whole situation is odd. He can't believe Russell included him and excluded Mark when he knew Tyler wasn't his. Aaron says that in Russell's own way it might have been about him accepting Tyler as his son. "Sure it went toxic in the end, but he still loved you." Tyler asks what they're going to do with the boat. Aaron knows it was his dad's dream but thinks selling it makes the most sense - and it's fair to everyone that way.
Erinsborough Backpackers
Jack hovers in the background cleaning the pool table while Elly chats with Leo about Mark. Elly says it's only early days but she thinkseverything's going well with him - but she doesn't really know what constitutes as a healthy relationship given her history. Dipi stops by and invites Leo to the pool party on Mishti's behalf. Leo asks why Mishti didn't invite him herself but Dipi claims she was too busy organising everything. Elly gets a text message and has to leave, but Leo says he'll come to the party and bring Jack with him.
The Waterhole
Mark chats with Elly about the will and boat ordeal. He thinks Russell may have been trying to make things up to Aaron and Tyler and admits that his dad didn't handle the fact that Aaron is gay. Russell didn't have a great relationship with Chloe either. Elly says that it's been hard for Mark too, but Mark says he's not angry. He just didn't realise how incensed his dad was about the career choices he made.
Sonya's Nursery
Steph's still showing Adam the ropes with the cars and everything's chill until Adam gleefully tells Ben he's going to ram his car into a pot. Steph has a quiet word with Adam about not being so aggressive and that they're all there for a friendly game. Ben takes Adam away to play with the cars and Paige compliments Steph on her parenting skills. Steph admits she hasn't always been confident in that regard, she hit a few hurdles with Charlie when he was visiting, but Paige reiterates she's doing a great job.
Number 32 Backyard
Leo and Jack arrive at the pool party but Mishti isn't exactly overjoyed to see Leo there. The boys head to the bar and Leo says he might go home but Jack tells Leo that all he needs to make things right is a wingman.
LEO: You're probably the least qualified wingman to walk the earth.
JACK: That's not true. I've been approached by a couple of ladies around the Backpackers.
LEO: Yeah, when you're carrying Gabe! Actually your baby is an excellent wingman, is he available?
Jack eventually persuades Leo into letting him be wingman and get Mishti onside. Meanwhile, Courtney has been lingering in the background making hungry eyes at Leo.
Mishti finds Dipi and tells her sister off for inviting Leo when she specifically said she wasn't ready to date anyone yet. Dipi innocently says she just thought it would be good to have another handsome man at the party; she wasn't trying to force anything. Before Mishti can get out a 'thanks', Dipi adds that since it's a party it would be kind of rude if Mishti didn't speak to him though.
Number 26
David chats with Aaron and Tyler about Mark while Aaron sorts through Russell's special deck of cards. They feel bad for Mark getting the short end of the stick with the will, especially since the boat would have meant the most to him. David wonders if Mark might be upset with them selling it and Tyler admits it couldn't hurt to hold off on it for a few weeks. Aaron comments to the boys that the ace of spades is missing from the deck - and neither Fay, Sheila nor Chloe received it (in fact, Chloe didn't get a card at all, way to hold those grudges Russ). David suggests Aaron and Tyler take their minds off Russell for a while and head to the pool party.
Number 32 Backyard
Mishti and Jack are sitting in the pool drinking and chatting to one another while David, Aaron and Tyler sidle up to Leo and wonder why he's not in Jack's place. Leo explains the whole wingman thing to them.
AARON: The man of god manoeuvre. That is actually genius.
TYLER: Well it looks like flirting to me. Does Jack understand man code?
(Courtney pushes her way in between David and Leo to put in her two cents)
COURTNEY: His body language is screaming interest, and her bikini's screaming last season.
AARON: How long have they been talking?
LEO: A while?
TYLER: I think Jack's cutting your grass, mate.
LEO: ... No, Jack's got my back.
COURTNEY: Well you know what they always say, there's plenty of grass in the sea.
As it turns out, Jack is chatting to Mishti about his own love disasters. First with Paige and then with Steph. Not to mention that the two women are hanging out with each other now which just makes everything even weirder. "I don't want to keep living my life alone," says Jack, trailing off in deep near-drunk thought. Run, Mishti. Run.
Sonya's Nursery
Adam's still playing with the car while Steph and Paige chat about how well the day has gone. Paige suggests to Steph that she try and make Adam's visits more of a regular thing. Steph says that Dan did tell her that Adam kept talking about her after their first meeting, so spending time together wasn't as disruptive to Adam as she thought.
PAIGE: And while you're taking some of my excellent advice, I think you should give Jack another chance.
STEPH: Not that you're being pushy or anything.
PAIGE I'm not saying make a major commitment. I'm just saying maybe be open to the possibility that it might be worth pursuing.
The Waterhole
Mark thanks Elly for listening to him. He sees Toadie walk up to the bar and asks Elly if they can catch up later, he just wants to have a word with Toadie. Once Elly leaves, Mark approaches Toadie and apologises if things got awkward after he read the will. But Toadie's like, 'nah, I've done plenty of family estates before, it's all good'. But Mark says it was toxic and he doesn't want to be that guy.
MARK: Listen Toad, I can't be angry with you anymore. I can't hold onto it. We used to be mates.
TOADIE: Yeah, yeah we were. I made some mistakes with some very serious consequences.
MARK: Why don't we put it behind us? Maybe we could have a beer sometime?
TOADIE: (smiling) I'd like that.
Number 32 Backyard
Aaron tells Tyler that Fay got in touch with Chloe about the will. Obviously she wasn't happy about it, but the idea of selling the boat did soften the blow. David tells Aaron that with the boat money he could pay off the loan to The Shed. Tyler adds that he could buy his own place, or his own business, and it could give him and Piper some real options.
Over at the table, Courtney's trying it on with Leo again, doing the whole 'I can't reach my back properly to put sunscreen on, can you help?' trick. Mishti watches proceedings from the pool and doesn't like what she's seeing. Jack's still yammering away so Mishti tells him it might be time for him to switch to water. And to get out of the pool.
Inside, Mishti and Jack run into Leo and Mishti makes a crack about Leo "coming up for air" after spending quality time with Courtney. And drunk Jack, with the best timing in the world as usual, suddenly remembers why he was talking to Mishti in the first place.
JACK: Oh no, my mission! (Leo mouths 'NO!' at him but you can't teach a drunk dog new tricks). He is a really good guy! And he really likes... (Jack notices Leo gesturing at him) What? Don't be embarrassed, we're friends here! Mishti needs to know how great of a guy you are, like those backpackers you send to the gym for power hour, y'know, to help her out! (Jack grins and doesn't even attempt to whisper behind his hand) Yes he's got a few girls after him, but he's not interested because he likes you.
Leo kicks Jack out to go and dunk his head in some water to sober up, but Mishti appears pleased with drunken Jack's ramblings and tells Leo that she's changed her mind. She'll go on a date with him after all.
MISHTI: I can't promise it'll turn into anything more, but I'm willing to give it a try.
Pathway/Gate/Car Park
Steph and Adam walk back home after their picnic. Adam's busy playing with the remote control car, happy that Ben loaned it to him for the rest of the day. Steph starts to bring up the idea of Adam visiting more often but Adam becomes distracted when the car zooms under the gate leading to a car park. He chases after it without a thought and squeezes through the gate turnstile, leaving Steph stuck on the other side. She's horrified as Adam crawls under a car to retrieve his toy, just as the car looks as though it's about to reverse.
