Paige reports to Lauren on the phone that everyone in the Café is fine and questions if it is their food that is causing the problem. She then spots Piper looking downcast and goes over to chat, and offers Piper her ear when she explains Xanthe is working at The Waterhole.
Cue titles!
Harold's Café
Piper brings her sister up to date that Chas is Brodie and that Brad used to train him in Perth. She adds that they used to hang out together as they'd things in common but Brad stopped coaching him about 6 months before she moved to Canada. Thereafter they'd chat online but it turned into "a thing" when they met up in person and he wanted her to stay in Canada with him when she'd decided to head home after hearing about her parents splitting. He wasn't happy at her decision to head home to Australia and was a bit delusional that him coming back was to get back with her when in reality it was so Brad could coach him again. She hopes Brad turns his request down as she fears falling for Brodie again and can't go through what she felt before.
The Waterhole
Aaron is trying to keep the Mayoral office running while Sonya is out of commission when Sheila arrives for the Citizen of the Year award to discover it's off due to suspected food poisoning from sandwiches provided by Harold's.
Lauren is trying to get to the bottom of how her food has poisoned everyone but Xanthe is providing the correct answers to her questions. She begs Daniel not to spread it that it was her food but the evidence is conclusive - the sandwiches are what's dodgy. Aaron interrupts to see what Daniel's thoughts are and he isn't ruling out sabotage by Paul but Aaron plans on getting everything tested and will let them know when the results are in.
LAUREN: I really hope this is some freak stomach flu otherwise it will be the end of us.
Ramsay Street
Karl/Susan are relieved to have missed the gastro episode thanks to him running late! He spots Nene out with Doug and tells her about being contacted by someone (probably to do with references) she used to work with (Daryl) and Doug pipes up to say he'll give her a reference. Despite Nene saying he doesn't need to contact Daryl now she's got a job, he plans on doing that out of courtesy.
The Waterhole
Steph has responded to Daniel's call to come in and has just finished cleaning up when Mark appears in the bar. She admits that the cleaning up has been a good distraction as she's heard the hearing for Charlie is scheduled for next month and she's not ready for it so doesn't fancy her chances at winning. Mark does his best to reassure her that they've got enough time to prepare and urges her to focus on Charlie and that things will fall into place.
STEPH: I hope so, I can't lose my boy.
MARK: Hey, we're not going to let that happen, okay.
STEPH: We?
MARK: Friends help friends don't they?
STEPH: Mmm, I guess they do.
Sheila discovers Xanthe hiding behind the Lassiters model and wonders why she's there especially since Lauren needs her help. "I can't go back," Xanthe replies then explains she's the one responsible for poisoning everyone because she wanted to impress Lauren by making her own mayo instead of using the commercial one for the sandwiches and with the sandwiches containing raw egg/being out of the fridge for too long, that's wants caused everyone to become sick.
XANTHE: It's all my fault.
Sheila frogmarches her to go see Lauren, commenting as they pass a Citizen of the Year poster that is why she deserves the award!
Number 26
Nene is on the phone to someone in the backyard moaning that if vindictive Daryl gives her a reference, her new life in Erinsborough will be over but curtails the call when she sees Amy approaching. Amy praises her mum on her work with Doug and that she is proud of her bouncing back and making the best of things, confessing that when she appeared she did think that things had gone wrong in her old job and asks if that "makes her a terrible daughter?"
NENE: Makes you a daughter that's been burnt by her mother more than once but I'm good now, everything's under control, I'm not going to let you down.
"I know that," Amy replies and both say to each other that they love each other.
Lassiters outdoor exercise area
Josh is impressed at how Brad's students are training for the hike. They then start chatting about whether Brad should train Brodie or not he admits that he's fearful of ruining his relationship with Josh if he goes agree, but Josh makes it clear that it's his decision and he won't stand in his way.
Number 28
Nene comes calling but when it appears that neither Karl/Susan are in, she makes her way to Karl's computer but has to quickly back off when she suddenly hears their voices (they were out the back) and quickly closes it and goes to stand by the door. She then explains why she's round - Doug liked the jamming session and would like another one but vetoes Karl's suggestion of coming to them, preferring to keep Doug stimulated so will bring him to #28.
Number 22
Piper/Josh begin discussing Brodie when he arrives home. Josh thinks Brodie needs to stop using his parents as an excuse and take his own responsibility. Piper is shocked to hear that Brodie was thrown off his scholarship apparently due to a bad break up but Josh thinks it proves he has a weak mind with no self control and warns her against being sucked in by him. She pleads that it could be his last chance but Josh is quick to say he's had "half a dozen last chances."
JOSH: He's a cockroach and if dad says no, he's going to find someone else to bleed dry.
Harold's Café
Despite Xanthe's apologies and Sheila's suggestion that she can do extra cleaning as a way of making it up to her, Lauren still isn't happy at what Xanthe did as the Café is going to get a bad name. She then lets slip that she knew "that this arrangement would end in tears," and Xanthe wants to know that arrangement!
Number 22
Josh lets Brodie into the house so they can chat. Brodie knows he messed things up with everyone but swimming is all he knows and doesn't have anything else. Josh admits he's still searching for a replacement, unsure if he'll ever find one, so gets where Brodie is coming from, but after walking towards the door and opening it, tells Brodie to find himself a new coach. Brodie replies that he doesn't want another coach and explains that he needs them all as they are the closest he's got to a family/support network.
BRODIE: Look if your dad says no, I'll walk away, not just from your family but from swimming for good because I know it's your dad or nothing.
Harold's Café
Piper is back having a chat with her big sister and tells her that it was because of her that Brodie was kicked off his scholarship (Josh told her but no, he doesn't know she was the girl involved) and begs Paige not to tell him. She agrees not to but wants Piper to not blame herself for what happened with Brodie and hopes that because Josh is against it, Brad will say no and that will put an end to things.
Aaron arrives with confirmation that the food poisoning was down to salmonella in the raw egg and that Lauren is going to get a visit from the health inspector tomorrow and fined nearly $800 too! On seeing her reaction, he tells her to count herself lucky, they aren't talking closing the store down.
The Waterhole
Steph comes off the phone to tell Mark that Phillipa is in town this week for a meeting and has agreed to meet her. He thinks this is great and reminds her that she's got friends who will support her, adding that they will need to get a move on organising things when she admits that its last chance saloon time if she wants access to Charlie.
Paul get a half-hearted apology from Daniel for falsely accusing him of being the one responsible for the gastro but that is forgotten when Paul gets confirmation that Robinsons has been awarded the Citizen of the Year ceremony ahead of Lassiters and plans on letting Julie know personally... and a copy of his dry cleaning bill!
Number 28
Karl struts his stuff but its only Nene who is interested as Doug lies asleep on the sofa. When he notices that, he wants to call a halt to the session but Nene wants to do another song she heard him perform in The Waterhole so he heads to the spare room to find the sheet music for it.
While he is away, Nene goes onto his computer and quickly replies (pretending to be Karl) to the email Daryl sent.
Dear Daryl,
Thanks for your offer of a chat, but it turns out Nene Williams is in town visiting her daughter, not looking for work.
Regards.
Dr. Karl Kennedy
Just as she's sent the email, Doug wakes up and wants to know what she's doing on Karl's computer but she tells him that he is dreaming. Karl returns with the sheet music and sees Doug is awake.
Number 26
Out in the backyard, despite Sheila bringing cake, Xanthe still isn't amused at the deal she did with Lauren to secure her the job at Harold's. Sheila explains her rational on the deal - that she has potential to do well if only she'd believe in herself and gives her the good news that she still has her job and that Lauren has booked her onto a food hygiene course too! "Don't push it missy!" Sheila replies when Xanthe jokingly asks if she can get a raise!
Harold's Café
Paige is trying to help Piper see the positives when Brodie leaves - she can get back into vlogging etc. Their chat is interrupted when Brad, Josh and Brodie walk into the store and Brad does the intros with Brodie/Paige and delivers the news that he's agreed to be Brodie's coach. Piper is surprised to hear the news and that it was Josh who talked Brad round (he got a second chance so Brodie deserved one too).
Number 28
As he stands at the keyboard, Doug bemoans that he can remember music notes but not folks names! Karl returns back after taking a call with good news - Nene's references has checked out. Nene volunteers to make a cuppa and when she heads to the kitchen (Karl is helping Doug at the keyboard), she gets out her phone and sends a text to Steve saying Thanks for calling Karl Kennedy, it worked. I owe you one. Nene.
Unmissable drama
- Jimmy trying to reassure Nene that nobody thinks she's a bad nurse.
- Paul wants someone to do some digging for him.
- Xanthe wanting to know who the hottie is from Piper.
- Terese/Piper chatting about Brodie.
- Brodie not respecting Piper's wish that he leaves her alone.
