Number 22/Number 32
Declan storms into Number 22 closely followed by Paul and Rebecca, the former wanting to know what the fight with Michael was all about while the latter wants the topic dropped. Paul is mightily amused that he and Declan apparently both hate the school principal but Declan doesn't want to talk about it. Paul continues to annoy him though, because badgering a woman's son is totally the way into her heart, Paul. Eventually Declan concedes that it was just mens shed stuff and Paul is disappointed. The scene cuts back and forth between Number 22 and 32 where Michael has also stormed into the house. He swipes everything off the coffee table in frustration and Lyn walks in with the laundry asking whether steak is a good idea for tomorrow. She notices the mess and thinks that he's upset that her, Summer and Charlie are staying there but he assures her that he had a fight with Declan about mens shed stuff and it's nothing to do with her.
Number 22
Rebecca creeps downstairs to talk to Dec who has also come downstairs to make milk for the restless Indy. Babies can be pretty in- tune to tension in the air. Bec wants to know what the fight was really about - and is irritated that Declan told Michael he should end it with her. Dec still thinks it's dangerous but Rebecca discloses her plan of sucking up to Paul until he tells the police that the fall was an accident at which point the blackmail will be all over. Rebecca reiterates that she loves Michael. Awww.
Number 32
Bec has come to see Mike and he instantly apologises for being idiotic and not controlling himself. She in turn apologises for putting him through everything. He's worried about her though - he figured out that when Declan said it was "dangerous", he wasn't merely talking about the whole affair thing. Bec assures him that Paul has never physically hurt her but she needs Mike to be patient and to be careful. He said it's hard but he'll try and envelopes her into a bear hug. He pulls away a little to look at her and asks if she needs to go and she smiles that she doesn't, and they keep on bear hugging. Awww.
Harolds
Lyn is folding napkins with her funky orange nails before Paul drops something on the table wanting it dry- cleaned. Without paying. Delivered to his house. By Lyn herself. The deluded little man leaves.
Lou, Karl, Sophie and Callum are seated at a table and Karl is talking about someone writing stories about a certain doctor and his pet galah...best seller written all over it! Obviously Callum and Sophie don't agree, but Soph politely says "cool". Meanwhile Lou has been scouring the newspaper for his ad looking for a new salesman for his car yard since the manager left and poor Callum complains that he's been picking up the slack. Lou was thinking the paper forgot about the ad since he only had one applicant. Who just walks in...
Kyle the applicant is not making the best of impressions. He carries off that salmon coloured shirt pretty well, though. He accidentally lets slip that he took a book keeping course because he messed up a few bills at Charlie's, and his reference is his best mate "Honger"! He's only had one job - Charlie's - so he doesn't exactly have many referees. There's a brilliant shot of Karl/Sophie/Callum looking a mixture of amused and confused and disbelieving. Kyle can tell it's not going well but he is a hard worker and willing to work a free trial. Lou dismisses him anyway because he can tell Kyle doesn't have "good car salesman" in his blood.
Wow, this is a long scene. Anyway, Callum and Soph are annoyed that Lou didn't even give Kyle a chance. He could have at least let Kyle vacuum or something!
Charlie's
Rebecca is bracing herself for some more sucking up to Paul and she looks at him from afar with disdain before walking over to the counter and sweetly asking if he wants a coffee. He doesn't, but he wants her to keep tonight free for dinner, just the two of them. She keeps that smile plastered on her face and says it sounds great. On his way out, he bumps into Lyn. He hands over a list of gourmet tidbits that he wants, which of course he won't be paying for. On the bright side, he won't need it delivered! Can I reach into the screen and punch his lights out?
Poor Lyn is downtrodden as she walks over to give Rebecca the milk invoice. Rebecca can tell she's upset and reaches out her hand to take Lyn out to the office for a chat, which makes me think that their friendship is really developing nicely considering they hated each other a year ago. We cut to the office where Lyn has poured her heart out about the smoke alarm battery and the blackmail. Lyn is relieved that Rebecca doesn't blame her at all and even more relieved when Rebecca says that she will definitely find a way of helping her out of the situation.
Charlie's
Rebecca is at a table with Indy on her lap. Indy's adorably nibbling on Tiny Teddies.
REBECCA: Grannypants needs to make a call.
She gets Lyn on the line and invites her over for dinner. Declan walks in to pick India up and is appalled to hear that his mum is putting herself at risk to help Lyn. Bec is defiant though but she tells him that she won't do anything that will put herself in danger.
Later, Kyle is talking to Rebecca about all the things he needs money for - his dates, gym membership, bills, pay TV - but Rebecca is clearly not listening. He throws in "a new laptop" to get her attention which works, but I'm really not sure why. She doesn't have any more shifts for him, though. Lou walks in wanting to pin up a salesman wanted sign. Bec encourages Kyle to fight for the job - show Lou how charming he is as a salesman. So he strolls over to two ladies and charms them into ordering 2 of the new cocktails - each. Lou has noticed but is not convinced.
REBECCA: He's very popular you know, women line up to be served by him.
KYLE: It's true!
Hahaha. Lou is suddenly suss at why Rebecca wants to get rid of him but she doesn't - she just knows he can't work casual forever. The answer is still no, so in backing Kyle, Bec rips down Lou's salesman wanted ad. Oh and Karl was in this scene too, but I have no idea what his purpose was.
Erinsborough Motors
Sophie is watching Callum wash cars and as Lou comes over, he mentions that sweeping the floor also comes under his punishment. He hands Sophie a hand- held vacuum and tells her it'll be karma in the bank - oh, and Kate says it's OK and if Sophie refuses, mentioning an empty shampoo bottle should do the trick. Man, it's that shampoo thing again! Just let your little sister use your damn shampoo!
Charlie's
Declan heads out with Indy for a stroll around the lake and Lyn takes the moment to talk to Rebecca about their plan. She's really worried that it'll make Paul angrier but Bec assures her that Paul is still making up ground with her so he's sure to stop the blackmail if Lyn mentions it in front of her. Rebecca takes Lyn's hand again and they go to discuss it more in the office. Awww.
Cal and Soph come around looking for Kyle. They're coming up with a plan of their own - they need him to get the job and they're willing to help from the inside.
Erinsborough Motors
Lou is lazing around when Soph and Callum walk over and show him that they've brought Kyle along. Lou wants to know what the bozo is doing there until Kyle reveals he just sold a car.
KYLE: She was only looking but then I bent down, showed her the tyres and just like that she decided to buy.
He gets the best one- liners. He's up himself in the most moronic and hilarious way! Lou tries to say he could have been saving the car for another client but is left without a response when Kyle points out the "make me an offer" scrawled on the window.
Charlie's
Contract signing is underway and Kyle is on for a trial period. Lou leaves and Kyle tells Callum and Sophie that the "customer" was Honger's girlfriend and in return, the kids will make sure the paperwork goes missing on Monday. Kyle walks over to Rebecca who congratulates him and says they'll miss him around.
KYLE: You and me, I reckon we could've been good together. Maybe in another life. Later!
Rebecca has the FUNNIEST expression on her face. I think she's confused, flattered, and totally weirded out at the same time. Rebecca brings beers over to Karl and Michael. Is that a good idea for a former alcoholic? Anyway, Rebecca looks at Michael sweetly and subtly while Mike stares at her like he may as well just get on his knees and propose on the spot. Real subtle, dude! Mike spies Declan walking in and goes to apologise for the argument and they shake on it much to the relief of Rebecca who is looking on in the background.
Number 22
We see candles and flowers and romance in the air. Or at least the atmosphere is romantic even if the idea of Paul and Rebecca being romantic at this point is so very wrong. There's a knock at the door and it's Lyn, who really quickly shoves Paul's suit into his hands and scuttles into the house before he can shut the door. Rebecca tells him that she invited Lyn since she's all alone for dinner and Lyn is nodding away but way too scared to make eye- contact with Paul at all.
Dinner is served with a big side dish of awkward. Lyn tries to make small talk by asking where Declan and Andrew are and Rebecca accounts for their whereabouts before Paul disdainfully (I love that word) thanks Lyn for dropping by. Rebecca tells Paul to be nice since Lyn is a friend and she'd like everyone to get along. Lyn eventually works up the courage to follow Rebecca's lead and mentions the blackmailing while Rebecca feigns surprise. It hasn't gone well, however - Paul is seething with anger and tells Lyn in a low voice that she deserves everything she gets because his son almost died in the fire. Sure, but blackmailing her for free dry- cleaning will help Andrew how?
Paul has just kicked Lyn out and slammed the door. Rebecca is appalled (well she's been appalled with him for a while now, but she's actually showing it now) that he's been blackmailing Lyn and also thinks that the dinner mood is salvageable. Paul suddenly looks suss and calls her out for favouring Lyn over him and the family. He drops his delusion of late and has lucidity for a minute and asks if the whole dinner ambush thing was planned. Rebecca, no doubt thinking about her assurance to Declan that she wouldn't put herself in danger, decides to pin it on Lyn and tell Paul that Lyn asked for an invite and Bec had no idea why. Uh- oh.
