Previously on Neighbours
Zeke telling Donna not to ruin finding her dad with stupid lies.
Libby talking to her mum about the guy she had a run in with over a parking space.
School
Libby drops Ben off for his class and he is aghast at her wanting to stay and watch. He doesn't want her there but relents on a few conditions - no calling out and definitely NO clapping! Ben heads off to class and Libby looks around for Mr Dishy but when she can't see him she enters the classroom to tell Ben she's off and will pick him up later. Just at that Mr Dishy arrives with his niece and they both decide to leave with Mr Dishy and this time he shows his manners and lets Libby leave first.
Harold's Store
Donna is down in the dumps thinking she's burnt her bridges with Nick over her false accusations. She tells Zeke she is going to tell him the truth as she fears she has nothing to lose.
School
Dance class is over and Libby runs into Mr Dishy again. Ben appears and they start to head out of the school and in her head, Libby wishes Mr Dishy would ask her out... and she literally gets her wish when he does ask her out for a drink. Playing it cool, although hyper on the inside, she agrees to the date and he suggests a bar in town called 'Flare'.
Number 28
Libby is looking online for the bar Mr Dishy suggested (she lied to him saying she knew where it was) and Steph wants to know more about her date. Susan and Karl come home just at that moment and now Susan wants all the goss too! Libby is reluctant to go on the date as she feels out of practice but Susan and Steph quickly say "NO" when she swithers about cancelling.
(Later)
Libby is deciding what to wear for her date. Steph asks what he does for a living and Lib replies that she doesn't know.
Hospital
And of course unknown to them Mr Dishy is of course Dr Doug Harris and he works with Karl at the hospital! Although Karl is despairing of him when Doug can't find a minute to talk to him.
Number 28
Susan asks if he is local and Libby replies that she doesn't know.
Hospital
Karl finally catches up with Doug and asks if he can leave 30 mins early from his shift as he needs to help his daughter out.
Number 28"That's why we are going out so we can get to know each other" Libby tells them.
Hospital
Doug turns Karl's request down as he needs him to stay on and cover because he has "an important meeting tonight."
Number 28
Susan asks about where they are meeting and Libby replies a cool bar in the city but isn't sure where the place is.
Hospital
Karl is peeved at Doug for having to cover for him without any notice.
Number 28
Susan can see that it's Karl who is calling and Libby shouts over to say that she isn't here and Susan literally repeats that when she picks up the phone and hangs up after saying it!
Harold's Store
Nick arrives for their meeting and Donna tells him that she isn't called Kelly, its Donna... Donna Freedman.
DONNA: I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure you are my father.
Nick is stunned at her revelation and walks out of the store.
And as we head into the first commercial break, today's trip down memory land is from 2000 and Lance about to go skydiving (episode 3616 in the archive if you want to read more).
Ramsay Street
Donna and Zeke make their way home from the store and she cancels a call from Nick.
At the other side of the street, Libby and Steph are heading to #30 so Lib can borrow something from her to wear. She's fretting about the date because of the baggage she has. "Everyone's got baggage Lib," Steph tells her and she stops Libby from cancelling the date.
STEPH: Now you listen to me. You are the funniest, the smartest, the most gorgeous and amazing person that I know. Now if this man doesn't get that, then that's his problem not yours.
LIBBY: That's easier said than done.
STEPH: I know but you've just got to be confident in yourself and you will because we're going to make you look HOT.
LIBBY: You are the best friend ever. Do you know that?
Number 28
Libby is all ready for her date and is wearing a lovely green dress, which meets with approval from Susan, Ben and Charlie.
ZEKE: I think the word is smokin!
CHARLIE: Smokin!
"Time to go Cinderella" Steph tells Libby when her cab arrives. She gives her a hug to wish her all the best and Susan gives her daughter the big thumbs up.
LIBBY: Here goes nothing.
Flare/Harold's Store
Libby is in some club but isn't sure if it's the right one or not, so Steph tells her over the phone to find a menu and when Libby does find one it confirms she's in the right place. She's now fretting as she is the only one not wearing jeans but Steph turns this into a positive - she'll stand out. "Yes like a sore thumb," so Steph gets Libby to repeat "I look hot and this man is lucky I made time for him in my busy life." Steph then threatens Libby when she says that she wants to go home but just as she's said that she spots Mr Dishy entering the bar. Libby now doubts whether she wants to go over and see him and Steph threatens to go there and drag her over to Mr Dishy! This has the desired effect and Libby heads over to him, muttering what Steph told her on the way.
Charlie's
Zeke takes a reluctant Donna into the bar and it's actually a set up to meet Nick. He apologises to her for how he reacted earlier but she gets it as he was shocked.
NICK: I've been waiting 18 years to meet you and I messed it up.
Donna is stunned to know that he knew she existed and wonders why he never made contact with her. "Because your mum wouldn't let me," he replies. Nick suggests they take a seat and get some drinks so they can talk more.
Now at a table and with drinks, Nick tells Donna that her mum was a lot of fun and that is all he wanted back then because footy was his life. He then goes onto say that when Cass told him she was pregnant he didn't handle it very well and admits that he didn't feel ready to be a father either and after a big fight with Cass he walked out. When he did come to his senses, he was told to get on his bike as Cass was now with Matt and literally did that.
NICK: I know it's not pretty but that's the truth.
Donna seems to be in shock at what he has just told her and Nick wants them to start afresh by getting to know Donna now he knows who she is.
Number 22
Now back from the bar, Donna seems rather down in the dumps as she talks to Zeke. She tells him that it was true what Cass said - he didn't want her.
DONNA: Neither of them wanted me.
"He actually said that?" asks Zeke and Donna continues the story by telling him that Nick did change his mind and wanted to see her once she was born but Cass and Matt sent him away.
ZEKE: So he did want you.
DONNA: That doesn't sound like he fought very hard.
ZEKE: Well it wouldn't be easy finding Cass.
DONNA: Yes still.
ZEKE: At least he was honest with you.
DONNA: I know. I shouldn't take it personally, I was just a baby then, I wasn't really me yet. It wasn't like just a personality thing. It's not like they thought I was too dumb or ugly or wasn't a nice person or whatever.
Zeke leaves over and reassures her that it will be okay and gets up to answer the door when someone knocks - its Nick. Zeke tries to get rid of him but he's insistent because he has things in a suitcase that Donna really needs to see.
Commercial break later and Zeke heads home to let Donna and Nick chat - Nick feels there is more that Donna needs to know.
NICK: When I finally tried to see you, Matt came right out and said that I'd had my chance and that he was your father now.
DONNA: So you just walked away?
NICK: (shaking his head) I was going to fight for you but then you walked into the room.
DONNA: (surprised) You actually saw me?
NICK: (nodding) You wore this little red dress and you'd just started walking. You crashed into the coffee table and started to cry. (Pause) You ran straight to Matt, held out your arms so that he could pick you up and you gave him the biggest hug and I realised then that he really was your father now and that I'd left my run too late.
DONNA: Well you still could have stayed in contact.
NICK: (shaking his head) I tried, Cass just wouldn't really let it happen. (Pause) Look, I know that's not good enough, but it doesn't mean I didn't care.
He then opens up the suitcase he took with him and shows her all the gifts he bought for her beginning with a snow globe from Amsterdam, tutu's from the London (he and Carmine saw the Royal ballet in London on their honeymoon). Nick then pulls out a jewellery box and opens it up to reveal a charm bracelet to which he added a charm on every year for her birthday.
DONNA: Even though you never saw me?
NICK: Every year. You're still my little girl.
Both of them are struggling to keep their emotions in check at this point.
Flare
Libby lets Mr Dishy pick a drink for her and he orders two espresso martinis. Libby decides to forgo the usual background info chat instead asking him what the last thing was that he was really passionate about (he passes on that one), your happiest childhood memory (getting a dog) and who is his favourite Spice Girl (he doesn't say)!
A few sips of martini later and the questions are still coming - this time he wants to know how many items she's managed to sneak through the 8 items or less aisle at the supermarket. Lib replies 14 and when he confesses his is 11; she jokingly chastises him for not breaking the limit by more. "I'm ashamed, I'll to better the next time" he replies.
They then head to the dancefloor when Libby mentions she likes the song that has just started playing and is impressed he can dance too. "My niece must get it from somewhere" he informs her as they head to the floor.
Libby then spots someone dancing wildly at the other side of the dancefloor - its Sonya. She is most surprised at how Sonya is dancing but Mr Dishy just thinks she is having a good time. Libby heads over and we find out the reason Sonya is hyper - she won money at the races and is shouting the people she met there. She then realises that she's already spent most of her winnings so tells Libby that she's going to head to the casino to win more cash.
Final commercial break later and Libby returns to Mr Dishy and he remarks that he's sure her friend can take care of herself. Libby thinks otherwise and he would too if he knew her background. They then hear Sonya announce to her groupies that its time to go and hit the casino and Libby immediately heads back over to try and prevent her from going there, saying they are going home instead.
SONYA: I don't want to go home.
LIBBY: (dragging Sonya away) That's too bad.
Libby takes Sonya away from the dancefloor and tells Mr Dishy that she's going to have to take Sonya home even though Sonya informs her that she isn't a child. "I'll call Lucas if I have to," Libby threatens her with.
Sonya then announces that she doesn't feel very good. Mr Dishy settles the bill (ignoring Libby's offer of cash towards it) and tells her to take care of her friend.
And as the titles begin there is a new addition to the permanent cast - Lyn Scully: Janet Andrewartha
