Dingoes Football and Sporting Club
Steve is on the running machine, running. Hard. He then takes on the punching bag.
Number 26
Steve storms into the house demanding to know who his wife was with last night. He thinks this new relationship is sudden, and needs to know what's going on. Miranda tells him that the guy is someone she used to know - Dean Norton. Steve wonders if Dean's still the smarmy snake he was at uni and storms out again.
Charlie's
Susan grabs a coffee for her and Miranda.
MIRANDA: Thanks.
SUSAN: Oh don't thank me, you've actually saved me from a stint as Karl's personal slave.
MIRANDA: Too much information.
Susan denies it's anything like that; Karl has a gym injury and is milking it for all it's worth. They get onto the subject of Dean, and Miranda tells Susan that she spent the night at the hotel, and she feels like an idiot, especially after she promised Steve breakfast. Susan thinks that Miranda is good in doing something for herself for a change, and Miranda wonders what it was like when she and Karl got back together. Susan insists that it wasn't easy.
Elle comes in, stares oddly and walks out again.
Susan wonders where Rebecca is, and Miranda relays that Paul's taken her away for a couple of days.
Harold's Store
Elle is staring at her phone will Jill's number ready to be dialled. Susan comes in and subtly mentions she hears that Rebecca's gone away, and wonders how things are with Elle and Lucas.
Elle wonders what Susan really wants, so Susan tells her straight: she thinks that things with her and Lucas were really good, and thinks it would be a shame if they changed because of Paul. Elle tells Susan to mind her own business. Well, you did ask...
Elle storms into the kitchen and calls Jill. Katie Ramsay answers, and says Jill's not at home - she can't get a hold of her. Lucas is standing outside the kitchen, listening, and wonders who was on the phone, but Elle gets off the subject and suggests they have dinner together instead.
Lucas maintains that Elle is hiding something, and she agrees - her inner Nigella. She's going to cook.
Elle leaves the kitchen and catches Susan who's just leaving the store.
ELLE: I need to borrow a recipe.
Susan looks rather stunned.
Number 22
Elle is chopping veggies. Hundreds of them. Susan comes in to see how things are going, and with a knowing voice says that Elle isn't feeding an army.
ELLE: I asked for a recipe, not a commentary.
Susan hands her some pine nuts to go in the risotto.
SUSAN: This isn't really you, is it, this cooking.
ELLE: I'm full of surprises.
Lucas comes in, and Elle avoids his kiss, saying she has another pumpkin in the car. She leaves, and Suse asks Lucas how Elle is, after her fight with Paul. Lucas said they all fought with Paul yesterday, leaving Susan confused.
Harold's Store
Steph comes in with Charlie and hands Toadie the script with some changes from her perspective. Steph comments on Toadie's Hawaiian shirt.
STEPH: What are you wearing?
TOADIE: Oh, it's loud shirt day today.
CHARLIE: Can I wear a loud shirt, mummy?
STEPH: Seriously, Charlie, do you want to look like this?
CHARLIE: Um...no.
Steph is taking Charlie to a party, and leaves Toadie with the revised script. Toadie realises that Steph has made Stella a supermodel (tall and in her 20s), and tells Steve. Steve tells Toadie he should tell Steph that she's not a supermodel, as honesty goes a long way.
Cue Miranda walking in. Steve has to go, but not before commenting that Miranda is clearly only at Lassiter's to check up on the 'guests'. She ignores his childish behaviour.
Lassiter's Hotel Room
Miranda comes in to see Dean who has been thinking about her all morning. She tells him that Steve knows, and he's very upset about it. Dean knows what it's like to lose her and knows that Steve is going to find it hard. He talks as if he and Miranda are now in a committed relationship, and tells her she should take a few risks.
Miranda doesn't want to spend her whole life wondering, but her phone rings and she has to take it; it's reception who need her to sort the computers out.
Miranda goes, leaving her bag behind. Dean gets some wine glasses out, ready for her return, when there's a knock at the door. Assuming it's Miranda wanting her bag, he takes the bag to the door for her.
Of course, it's Steve, looking smug and pleased to have found Dean. Dean and Steve chat conversationally on the chairs, and Steve wonders how long Dean will string Miranda along for this time.
DEAN: Miranda and I have a connection. You don't own her, Steve.
Steve admits that he loves his wife, and he'd hate to see her get hurt. Steve adds that Miranda also knew that Dean didn't have the ability to commit to anything, so if he's going to hurt her, then he needs to do it sooner rather than later.
Miranda walks in with a bottle of wine. Shocked to see Steve there, she tells him he's embarrassing her. He points out that he's still her husband, so he's looking out for her.
Harold's Store
Over at the store Steph wonders what Toadie thinks of her changes. He says they inspired him to make a few of his own. Gerard is now a bodybuilder. Steph decides that this is a really bad idea - the protagonists will end up being superheroes. Toadie should write the play.
Lassiter's Hotel Room
Miranda is on the sofa, waiting for Dean who's on the phone to work. He knows he'll be a while, so Miranda leaves, saying she'll come back later. She's disappointed.
Number 22
Elle is 'cooking' but burns herself. Smoke is everywhere. Lucas wonders what's going on with all this effort, and Elle tells him that she wanted tonight to be special. Lucas knows it's because she's still worried about the stuff with her dad and cooking is her way of distracting herself. He convinces her to tell him about Paul.
She tells him that her dad used to be a very different person, and she doesn't want him to go back to that and then end up losing Lucas. Aw.
Erinsborough News
Lucas has come to 'pick up some stuff' for Elle. Not. He sneaks into Paul's office and starts up the PC, but realises anyone could see through the window, and so closes the blinds. He also closes the door...behind which is Susan, also hiding to stop herself being caught.
Both are really awkward until they both realise that...
LUCAS & SUSAN: You're snooping!
Charlie's
LUCAS: Technically I should tell Paul.
SUSAN: Well technically I should tell Elle.
They agree that they're both worried about Paul, and Elle. Susan's also concerned for Rebecca - if Paul's up to something she doesn't want Bec getting hurt. Lucas assures her it's nothing like that.
SUSAN: Well what is it, then? Lucas!
LUCAS: Elle found out Paul's mum had an affair. He's got a half-sister he didn't know about. And this woman, Jill, has a right to claim on the Robinson money.
SUSAN: Ah, so naturally Elle thinks Paul would do whatever he has to do to stop her.
LUCAS: Yeah, something like that.
Susan says she's not comfortable talking about this.
LUCAS: Oh yeah, but you're happy to do a bit of prying!!
SUSAN: You can talk!
Lucas wonders if Paul is dangerous; he's trying to look out for Elle. Susan admits that 4.5 years ago there was a fire at Lassiter's...
Lassiter's Hotel Room
Dean is packing up his stuff, and on the phone to his colleague, saying that he'll come up via Canberra. Miranda walks in, sees that he is going back.
MIRANDA: I thought you were staying another week.
Dean insists that he can't let work down, so Miranda insists that he's still the same smarmy snake that he was at uni. Yessssssss, he issssssss. Dean tells her he can catch a flight back next week if needs be, but Miranda tells him not to bother; she doesn't know what she ever saw in him.
Is this, like, the quickest affair EVER?
DEAN: You know what you meant to me.
MIRANDA: How many other students fell for that line? You're despicable. Get your things, I'm taking you to the airport.
Lassiter's
Steve watches as Miranda drags Dean off to the airport so she can make sure she's gone. Steph and Toadie are still discussing their characters in the play, and still playing them up a little. They run into Steve and wonder if he's okay - he's clearly not.
Number 22
Lucas is looking up the Erinsborough News Archives on the net. He asks Elle why she never told him about the fire, and she retorts that it's none of her business.
LUCAS: He's got a track record of going too far!
ELLE: Yeah, well he's changed!
LUCAS: So you said, only you don't believe it, do you, otherwise you wouldn't be so messed up.
ELLE: I'm fine.
Lucas asks her to prove it, by asking to see her phone, and wanting to know who she called this morning. He wishes that Elle had told him about this herself. Elle admits that she spoke to Katie Ramsay this morning - Jill hadn't come home.
Lucas makes a decision - they're going to see Jill, and put their minds at rest.
Jill Ramsay's House
Elle and Lucas arrive in a car to see Jill. Katie answers the door
KATIE: Are you the social workers?
ELLE: No. Um, we're just here to see her.
KATIE: She's still in hospital.
LUCAS: What's she doing in hospital?
KATIE: Um, she...she was in an accident. Someone ran her down and then they just left her for dead.
Elle and Lucas try not to react.
