Paul's Flat
Elle is looking rather worried at Paul trying to have a fight with thin air. She asks what he is doing and he says that Fox was saying she wasn't going to come. Paul asks thin air what it was playing at and Elle, in despair, tells him that there is nobody there. Paul looks rather confused as we suddenly cut to...
The Bench near Lassiters
Paul telling the air that he has to tell Elle the truth, that she should know her father is dying.
Pauls' Flat
That was what Paul was thinking you see, on that bench there. He's still looking confused in the present. He's now thinking about the destruction of No.22. Back in the present, Elle wants him to tell her what's wrong. Oh, but Fox is back telling him that Elle doesn't care and this is all an act. Elle wants Paul to see a doctor. Fox sees this as an example of Elle enjoying Paul suffering. Paul yells him to stay away and Elle tells him to calm down, and that they, without Fox, will get in the car and go and get him some help.
No. 30
Things are serious as Carmella refuses a cup of tea in favour of knowing what is going on.
OLIVER: I'm attracted to Elle.
CARMELLA: What does that mean?
OLIVER: Nothing.
Ha. He says he still loves her, and he doesn't want anything to change, but Carmella reckons they just did. He maintains he is still committed to her, despite his physical attraction for Elle.
OLIVER: There is no way I'm going to pursue it.
There is a slight snort from Carmella here, and Ollie says that came out wrong. Carmella wants to know why he brought it up if she has nothing to worry about. He says he wants an open and honest relationship, but Carmella reckons he just wants an out. He doesn't have the guts to break up with her and is hoping she'll do it for him. But she refuses, saying he has to choose. Her or Elle.
Scarlet Bar
Ned comes to sit with Janae and she excitedly tells him about her meting with Courtney Fenwick. She saw her at the gym and she wants to offer her an exclusive management deal. There is an excited squeak from Janae. Ned looks a little bit less thrilled. It's local competitions at first but you have to start somewhere! Ned points out she is under doctor's orders not to compete for a month, but she reckons it's no big deal as she won't be competing for at least 5 weeks. Ned thinks even if she trained non-stop til then she wouldn't be ready, and she is hurt he doesn't believe in her like he said. She waxes lyrical about being on the posters, getting paid, and although her technique needs work, Courtney reckons she has potential.
NED: Potential for what?
He reckons this is all happening too fast, and although Janae reckons it's just because she's good, Ned asks whether the fact she's cute has nothing to do with it.
JANAE: We're not all as shallow as you.
He tells her not to sign the contract.
JANAE: I think you're forgetting, it's you that takes orders from me.
If he wants to help he can bring her lunch to the garage, because he does not tell her what to do. And she stalks off, back to the garage presumably.
No. 30
Ringo comes in conveniently just as a crying Carmella comes past the front door. He asks if she is ok, and when she says she isn't, asks if she has been fighting with Ollie. She is wiping her eyes, so doesn't look overly ok. He asks if he told her about Elle, and when Carmella is clearly about to start shouting as to why he knows, he admits he overheard them talking. She asks why he didn't tell her but he thought Ollie would do the right thing.
CARMELLA: The right thing?
RINGO: Well, he told you didn't he? That's got to earn him some points.
CARMELLA: I'll order him a medal.
Ringo points out in the wake of this sarcastic, yet brilliant response, that he could have ignored it and gone around acting all weird, the standard male response. Carmella agrees he did make a point about honesty, and Ringo agrees he thought she deserves the truth and that means he loves her.
CARMELLA: He's still got the hots for Elle.
RINGO: Big deal Carmella. I've got a thing for Jessica Alba, it doesn't mean I'm not completely hung up on Rach.
He reckons if Ollie hadn't said anything, then it would mean he had something to hide. But then what does he know? Carmella reckons quite a lot for a kid of 16.
RINGO: I'm 17.
He asks if he can go with her on her fruit delivery, and she wonders if he shouldn't be watching movies with Rachel. He says she gave him the boot, and she agrees he can tag along. Just before they leave, Ringo gives her a little speech about how Ollie is a decent bloke, and they will sort it out.
Street
Where talking of Elle, here she is! She's putting Paul in the car and telling him they're going to the hospital. He doesn't want to go but she says he is clearly going through some sort of breakdown. He looks into the back seat and there is Fox. He opens the door to the back and tells Fox to leave him alone, and then Elle tells him there isn't anyone there. Paul reckons Fox and Elle are in cahoots, and she gets out of the car to remonstrate with him. He thinks it's her plans to keep him occupied and how he never thought she could hate him this much. He collapses against the side of the car clutching his head and Elle calls for an ambulance as we go into the first ad break.
Scarlet Bar
Ollie sees Ned and says that he doesn't know whether he should thank him or not. He doesn't think the attraction is entirely one way between himself and Elle and Carmella knows. Ned asks if they are finished but Ollie tells him no, but she's upset.
NED: What did you expect?
Ollie wanted it all out in the open as that would be for the best, but Ned reckons that would just make him feel better but he's made everything worse. Ollie points out a few months ago Ned was happy to break up couples because Paul told him to, but now he is judging! Ned walks off, saying that they are now done.
Garage
Janae asks Ned if that's the best look he has for her, because he should take lessons from Janelle. Ned reckons that will be nothing once Janelle finds out about this, but Janae says his job is encouragement. Ned counters that it's actually to make sure she stays in one piece. But as Janae says, contracts are signed so there is nothing they can do. Ned wants her to prove she has the endurance to stick this out, and challenges her to land one decent punch at him. If she can, he'll help her train.
JANAE: Too easy!
General Store
Ollie and Carmella are holding hands across the table now. He admits he should have done things differently but she is pleased he was honest. He wants her trust, because she is the one he wants to be with. He has now decided apparently his feelings for Elle are merely a close bond because they work together. Carmella realises that's why Elle sacked him, but Ollie reckons they mutually decided it was best for him to move on.
CARMELLA: Sacked.
Ollie reluctantly agrees, but thinks it is for the best. Carmella realises the bond started at the time she was taking the medication, and so he needed someone to talk to. Whilst Ollie doesn't want her to blame herself, she wants to be the first to know if anything changes, like he stops loving her. He says it isn't going to happen, but does promise. And they have a public kiss.
Roadside
Ah, the other woman, as here is Elle. Paul is being strapped into an ambulance and is asking if she is happy now. Whilst Elle begs him to stay calm he can see Fox standing behind her. He calls them a pair of backstabbing liars, and when Fox tells him that he is here for him tells him to shut up and go away. Elle dashes away to follow in the car behind, and Ollie catches her, saying he will drive.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul and Elle stare at each other through the window of Paul's room and outside, Ollie asks Elle what happened. She explains about the weird phone message, and so she went to the flat and heard him abusing someone but Paul was alone when she went in. Starting to cry, she wonders whether she has caused this. The nurse comes out and says she is glad Elle convinced him to come back. Elle is of course a bit confused by this, and the nurse explains he has been refusing treatment. When Elle doesn't know what for and why Paul is now about to undergo emergency surgery she decides she and Elle need to have a little chat about the situation. Ollie offers to come too but Elle tells him to go away now he has brought her here. He sits down and prepares to wait as we head into the break.
Garage
Janae throwing punches and getting tired. Ned asks if she is ready to give up when she hurts her hand. He teases that she's broken a nail and keeps trying to throw that one vital punch. Complaining he has the unfair advantage, she is allowed a free shot which she throws half-heartedly and then stomps off in a huff. Ned protests he is just giving her a taste of the competition, but she complains she'll be fighting someone her own size not a ten foot jerk. He offers ice but she tells him to leave her alone and when he does she grimaces at the pain.
Hospital
Elle comes back and explains to Ollie that Paul has a tumor pressing against his brain and this is why he is seeing things. He was diagnosed a few weeks ago but didn't do anything about it and now it is critical. The emergency surgery is not even guaranteed. Ollie takes her over to the seats and a tearful Elle worries how she should have known when he made a speech about how proud he was of her, but she gave him money to go away. Ollie tells her she can't blame herself but Elle is devastated. She tells him to go, and that he can't be here. He tries to protest but she tells him to go home to his girlfriend. Ouch.
No.30
Ringo is raving about the juicer, it does whole apples! Carmella is concerned he has thrown away the pulp, which he hasn't, because Zeke likes to feed it to his worms.
RINGO: His nerdiness knows no bounds.
True. They toast to a job well done, and Ringo says anytime he can help, including relationship counselling. Spying Carmella's ad for a delivery person, he wants to know why she didn't ask him. He loves early mornings and it won't clash with school. They agree a 2 week trial, because Ringo needs all the money he can get to romance Rachel. Carmella thinks she is lucky because Ringo is one of the nicer teenage boys. Shyly, he says he is enjoying talking about his feelings, despite the fact it all started off as a joke. Carmella teases him about blushing and just as they are looking quite cosy, in comes Ollie. Carmella says he has been trying to call him and Ringo makes a swift exit. Ollie says he has been at the hospital with Elle and while Carmella does not look a happy bunny Ollie quickly jumps in explaining Paul is really sick, has to have an operation and could die. He explains he couldn't just leave her and Carmella agrees he did the right thing.
Hospital
While Paul fiddles with his hands Elle explains it is ok to be scared but everything will be ok. He says they already are for her and she wanted him out of her life, but she pleads that she loves him and didn't know he was sick. Wincing in pain, Paul asks why she ruined him, and Elle explains she wanted them both to be better people and it was done out of love. Paul states she now feels guilty, and Elle looks guilty. But she merely says she wants to call a truce and be a team again, but Paul says it's too late. Fox suddenly appears stood behind Elle, and Paul yells at him to get out and if he doesn't pull through it will be his fault. Elle doesn't know who he is talking to though and looks upset. Just then a nurse appears telling him they are preparing for surgery, and for Elle to wait outside. She says she loves him and will be here when he gets back. She wanders out in to the corridor and trying to hold back the tears, watches through the window into Paul's room.
No.30
Where we return after the final break to Ringo asking when Carmella is back, because he wants to know when to start work. Ollie says not soon because she is leaving tomorrow for the country for a few days. Ringo looks relieved because he thought Ollie meant she was leaving because they had been fighting again. Ollie wants to know what he means by again, and after stuttering for a bit Ringo admits he heard Ollie and Elle talking, but he did the right thing telling Carmella.
OLLIE: Yeah, thanks Oprah.
Ringo says he thinks Carmella is a top chick and he doesn't want her to get hurt, and Ollie tells him he doesn't have to worry. Ringo walks off leaving young Oliver with some food for thought.
Hospital
Elle is worrying on those same seats and trying to hold back those same tears when Carmella appears asking how she is. She says Ollie told her what happened with her Dad, and also about why Ollie and Elle no longer work together, but she is here as a friend. She hands her a fruit basket and then sits down. She tells Elle it isn't her fault they both love Oliver, but Elle doesn't want to talk about it. Carmella says she didn't want to make things worse, and Elle lean on her shoulder.
We jump to Paul lying waiting for his operation and as the nurse tells him to relax he sees Fox in the background. Fox says Paul is now going to pay and he won't be waking up.
Ever.
