Recap
- Drew telling Libby that his father wants to see him in Oakey about business.
- Susan telling Karl, that when she said that she loved him, she meant that she remembered loving him, but doesn't love him now
Lou's Place
The Hoylands are having trouble deciding what to have for dinner, Summer is not too happy that there is no spaghetti bolognaise, but Lou is short and tell's them if they don't like it the can have chips and veggies. Rosie follows him over to the bar and tells him that she knows that it is a cost cutting device, and she would have happily have helped him out. Lou says that he is very grateful but is going to get through this on his own.
Joe, Lyn and Karl arrive just as Susan is leaving, Lyn tells her that they are there to celebrate Karl's birthday and asks if she wants to join them. Susan declines, not before apologising to Karl for not knowing when his birthday is. He asks her if she is sure that she doesn't want a drink, but she tells him that it is probably easier on him if she doesn't. Susan leaves and Karl looks dejected and heartbroken.
Lou is in his office on the phone sacking some of his staff, and putting the others on minimal shifts. Harold overhears, and goes against his principles as a Christian by offering to help, he says that he feels a bit responsible for Lou's plight, and would like to do something to help. Lou letting pride gets in his way refuses the offer.
Church
Nina is using the keyboard to compose her own song, which remarkably sounds incredibly similar to the Delta Goodrem hit 'Born To Try' amazing really I hope that they were not hit with any copyright law suits.
Coffee Shop
Lyn and Susan are talking about Karl's birthday, and Susan says that she would like to do something.
Harold suggests to Lou that he helps Rosie set up the concert, but Lou says that he is too short staffed and is not able to. Harold realises that he is under stress, and insists that he help, he may not be able to serve alcohol, but he can help in the kitchen and collect plates, realising that he is fighting a losing battle Lou accepts the help.
Oakey
Drew arrives to meet his father Ron, He asks him how his mother is, and then the most exciting line of the episode occurs
RON: Terrific she is loving Inverness
Yes that is right there is a mention of Inverness!!! (excuse the excitable Invernesian in the corner)
Community Hall
Rosie is setting up for the concert, she tells Nina that she is stressed as it all has to go to plan to impress the bishop. She tells Nina that she could do with another voice as Tahnee, Nina doesn't take the bait, but tells her that it will be fine, and that everyone will do brilliantly.
Number 26
Lyn is practising for the concert, but a lifetime of practise is not going to improve the voice that we hear. The look on Joe's face says it all really, but Lyn seems oblivious to the fact that she is not exactly Celine Dion or Maraiah Carey.
Oakey
Ron is showing off his horses to Drew, he tells him that it has been his dream to breed Australian stock horses, and he has started the ball rolling in his plans to do so. He asks Drew to move back to Oakey to manage the business.
Community Hall
Tahnee has yet to arrive for the concert and Rosie is stressing out. She says that if she doesn't get there they may as well all pack up and go home. Lou talks her into taking a five minute break, and he and Max get on with arranging the hall.
Number 28
Karl is wishing himself a solitary happy birthday, when the door rings he seems annoyed, but when he sees that his visitor is Susan there to wish him a happy birthday wish he perks up. There is another knock at the door and she tells him that his birthday present has arrived, it is none other than an exotic belly dancer. The Kennedys have a whale of a time hysterically laughing as the belly dancer does her thing. Susan looks on with a tender look in her eyes to see Karl enjoying himself
Coffee Shop
Rosie tells Lyn that she won't be able to make it to Number 26 after the concert, as she has to have dinner with the Bishop. Summer arrives and gets confused as to what it is that Rosie has told her and ends up putting her foot in it.
SUMMER: You were so wonderful the way you took that, Nana has been so worried about how to tell you.
LYN: Has she?
SUMMER: Yeah, you are the best hairdresser in Erinsborough....probably. But you can't be the best singer as well.
LYN: Can't I?
SUMMER: Well your voice kinda drowns out everyone else.
LYN: Oh.
SUMMER: Nana didn't want to tell you, but I am glad that she did. It's probably best for everyone else if you don't sing. See you later.
A shocked and upset Lyn feigns a sore throat to Harold, and says that she won't be able to sing at the concert, and asks Harold to pass on her apologies to Rosie as she leaves the coffee shop in a hurry.
Number 26
Susan and Karl are dancing around the lounge together laughing about the belly dancer, Susan tells her that she thought that a belly dancer was a classy present.
KARL: I just don't know where I stand with you, divorce one day, and a belly dancer the next. I wonder what tomorrow holds?
SUSAN:(hopefully) Friendship?
KARL: Is that what you want?
SUSAN: Yeah, I dunno. I know that I told you that I don't love you, but I really like you and I keep liking you, and I think about you and it's with affection.
KARL: Thank you
Karl grins as he leans over to place a gentle kiss on Susan's forehead. The signs of a possible reconciliation are promising.
Number 26
Joe rushes in looking for Lyn, he has been to the hall and Harold told him that Lyn had a sore throat He tells her that he wants to get her to the hospital. Lyn admits that she doesn't have a sore throat she just can't face the concert as she is a terrible singer, who drowns out everyone else. She is glad that she finally knows what everyone is thinking she just feels a bit ashamed. As Joe tries to reassure a hurt Lyn gets tearful. Lyn thanks Joe for his support and as she lovingly hugs him, she tells him she couldn't have wished for a better husband.
Concert Hall
An angry Rosie announces that Tahnee has been grounded, and will not be able to make the concert. Harold announces that Lyn is unable to make it either, so with half the choir gone Rosie thinks that they should all pack up and go home, but as Harold suggests that somebody else could step into Tahnee's shoes all eyes are on a reluctant looking Nina.
