No. 28
Karl and Susan arrive home to find Elly down in the dumps and she hands over to Karl what she's been reading - details form an agency on another Ian Conway. She wants the letter and he hands it back and Susan is surprised that she now wants to find her dad. Elly replies that it is her decision.
No. 26
Steph tries to interest Flick in bridesmaid dresses but she blanks Steph, which results in Steph asking what is up as she thought her sister would be happy for her. Flick replies that the whole thing is going too quick and reminds Steph she hasn't told her parents yet about the date being brought forward. Steph reminds Flick that they are Scullys and organising a wedding in a few weeks will be easy! Flick brings her down to earth with a bump when she says that she doesn't want to be in Steph's shoes when she breaks the news to their parents.
Hospital
Harold tells Lou that their supper is on its way and can smell that it will be roast beef. Lou is getting fed up with Harold, and ignoring his disapproving words, gets out his bed to go for a walk. He decides to stay though when Rosie arrives (Harold correctly guesses her when she arrives due to her perfume). She enquires how Harold is going and gives him a talking book as he's probably fed up listening to Lou by now! Harold thanks her and she gives Lou a present, a book on wine, for when they visit some winery's when he gets out of hospital.
The Coffee Shop
Elly asks Tad for his advice on what to do with the letter and he says to go for it given his experience with his real mum. Tad asks Elly lots of questions and she is a bit puzzled as to why until he explains that they are the questions she'll have to think about before she meets her dad. Finally he asks what happens if Ian doesn't want to meet her, which takes her back a bit, so she replies that at least she'll know before asking Tad if he felt the same with his mum. Elly decides she is going to contact her dad, so Tad hands her the voice and assures her she'll know what to say when she talks to him. When she does get though, it is to an answering machine so she leaves a message.
No. 28 (next day)
Susan tries to hurry Elly along when the phone rings - its Elly's dad! She makes polite conversation with him and brings him up to date with things. When she comes off the phone, she tells Karl that Ian wants to meet Elly today as he is going away for the next 3 months.
Commercial break over, Susan is trying to persuade Elly to delay meeting her dad since he is going away but she'd rather meet and will go elsewhere if necessary. Susan tells her no, to meet him here and she'll be around too if she needs help.
Hospital
As they walk along the corridor, Lou tells Rosie he is ready to go home today as he is fed up with Harold being so cheery. Rosie reminds him that Harold's been through a lot lately and perhaps they should subtly suggest that it is okay for him to be frightened. She then thanks him for his support of Harold, even though Lou thinks it is weird getting hospitalised to do so.
LOU: Well he's the best friend I've got but don't you tell him I said so.
Lassiter's Complex
Steph is trying to talk to Marc about wedding plans but he is a bit distant. He instead talks about having a different sort of honeymoon and about where they will life after the wedding, which slightly puzzles Steph. She wonders where this is all going; especially when Marc asks is she'd still marry him if he was dirt poor.
STEPH: Hey, I would marry you if we had to have the ceremony in my parents' backyard instead serving the guests my mum's lasagne and my dad's homebrew.
Marc replies that he isn't joking and Steph wants to know what is going on and enquires if his parents are in trouble. He explains that he is in trouble with them - they are threatening to disinherit him if he marries her. Steph can't believe her ears and especially how his mum was with her. Marc tells Steph it was all a front and calls his parents snobs before adding that it is making him more determined to marry her and hopes that in time they will love her too. Steph is a bit disenchanted to find out the real reason why Marc wanted to move the wedding forward and he quickly says that he loves her and wants to marry.
Hospital
Karl is visiting Harold and is glad of the tasty food his visitor has brought him because the hospital doesn't know how to cook vegetarian food. Karl confirms that the pads hopefully will come off this afternoon before he subtly asks how he is getting on with Rosie. Harold says she is a special person he thought that he'd never have in his life again. And speaking of Rosie, she just so happens to arrive but doesn't enter the room as hears him say what he likes about her - she makes him laugh which he thought he'd never do again. Lou now also arrives to hear Harold say that he is jealous of their friendship.
No. 26
Steph is furious over Chloe Lambert and lets her steam out at Flick. She tells Steph it is about the two of them and not Chloe, which calms Steph down immensely.
No. 28
Susan is panicking while trying to tidy up the house for Ian coming round. Too late though as he arrives but Elly isn't home. Susan and Karl acquaint themselves with Ian again and the conversation is a bit strained while they wait for Elly to arrive home. Elly eventually arrives back and as she enters, just stares at the man stood before her.
Lassiter's Complex
Steph arrives and surprises Marc and says they just got through their first hurdle as a couple because they were open and honest with each other. She also adds that she thinks that thanks to Chloe, they've also come closer together before adding that she thinks they could get through anything because they love each other. Marc agrees with her and that they won't break up during the stress of organising a wedding in 8 weeks.
No. 28
Elly asks her dad some questions and Susan & Karl offer some additional info but it is rather strained. Eventually Ian asks if he can be alone with his daughter, and they make their excuses and leave. The conversation is now much more relaxed as they get to know each other, although she has to inform her dad that it is Elly and not Eleanor. Ian admits he was a bit surprised she contacted him...because he isn't her daughter. Elly is stunned at this news and thinks he is lying to her.
Hospital
Karl gets ready to remove the pads from Harold's eye and warns him things will seem strange. As the poignant music plays, Harold looks around the room and although it is blurry, can make out Karl, Rosie and Lou.
HAROLD: I can see.
Everyone is so happy for him and Karl says that the sight will start to return to normal in a couple of days but in the meantime advises him against reading or watching television so Lou volunteers to read to him.
No. 28
Ian apologises for shocking Elly as he assumed she'd already know. Elly asks who her father is then and Ian replies that it is the man who just left - Karl!
