Recap
- Karl tells Serena he is not entirely happy with her performance and is giving her a warning.
- Evan says like filling in the creek, and are you working for one of the developers who hope to build there, so Joe has a vested interest in making sure the project goes ahead.
No 26
Joe is angry about Evan standing up to him at the public meeting, and wants to know what right he has to speak like that, Lyn asks Joe if he knows about the filling in of the creek, Joe says he should have. Steph says he is right it is a conflict of interests, but Joe says Evan is an over educated idiot with too much time on his hands, and starts to say people need but is interrupted by Lyn saying houses and workers need jobs. Lyn says he should expand his argument and wow them with science. Joe thinks he was a failure, but Steph and Lyn say he did not and stuck to his arguments. Joe still thinks he looked like an idiot as he did not have the answers to peoples questions. Lyn says he will be ready next time, Steph says and in the circumstances he was terrific, but Joe thinks he not ready to be a councillor. But Lyn says it is late and Joe agrees to go to bed.
The Square
Darcy greets Serena and asks if she is going to work, she is not. Darcy says she is needed, but Serena says if Karl thought that. He says that a formal warning is just a technicality and to ignore it, but she cannot as it is the first time, Darcy says Karl has his funny little ways, she wrote a letter. He agrees to talk to Karl then have lunch with her, which she agrees to before leaving.
Darcy asks Joe how the meeting went last night, Joe says there was some grandstanding going on, people trying to steal the limelight. Darcy says that is politics, speeches soap boxes.
Joe leaves to talk to Evan, by they are running a bit late for school and agree to talk later so they can discuss the issues in full, Maggie says I am sure you will work it out and Joe says showboating as they all walk off.
Coffee Shop
Lou greets Drew, Drew has agreed to fix another car tomorrow, Lou says he is working too hard but Drew says the work is there and he needs it. Lou tells Drew to enjoy his new son, Drew says he will and orders a toasted sandwich. Drew also has a couple of lube jobs as well which Lou thinks Chooka should handle, Drew asks since when has Lou been one to stop and smell the roses. Lou says work cannot run your whole life and he will look back at the end of the day and see how much money you made or how much time you spent with your kids. Drew says what about the toys and school fees and food, Lou says the thing they need most is your time, being together.
Drew asks how Lou is feeling about seeing Lolly, Lou says close, they have agreed to a two week visit, as they would not have a choice as it would blot their copy book. Drew says it must be tough seeing her every day for two weeks then leave her, but Lou will take each day as it comes. Drew could not do that, but Lou says he has to.
School
Leo asks Evan if it his fault, Evan says it's not, but Evan says that Joe has a clear conflict of interest and he pointed it out at the meeting and he got all defensive. Leo asks if Joe will be on the council, Evan says if he wants to run he will need better ideas. Leo says that Evan should run for council as he is always telling people to help the community, but Evan says council takes up a lot of time. Evans phone rings and Leo goes to class saying next stop mayor.
It is Genevieve on the phone, she wants to meet him they agree at the coffee shop at lunch time.
The Pub
Serena asks Darcy if Karl read what she wrote, Darcy says he did and he put in a good word for her, and it is just a personality thing, she is an attractive woman with a modern attitude. Serena wants to know his personality as she should look for a job else where, but Darcy disagrees and says she has a warning, that makes him feel like he is a boss and nothing more needs to be said, then asks if she will come in tomorrow but Serena says she will let him stew another day at least. Darcy says she is so like him it frightening.
Coffee Shop
Joe tells Evan he deliberately had a go at him, Evan says it was not his intention, and he wanted to talk last night, Joe says he did not have all the facts but Evan thinks he was hiding something. Joe asks if he is calling him a liar, Evan says that was the impression so he gave him a chance to clear the air and if he was not up to scratch it is not his fault. Joe says he cannot have all the facts, but Evan says he should see the big picture. Joe says Evan is an armchair politician that sits back and criticizes everyone else while they roll up their sleeves and have a go and walks off.
Genevieve meets Evan, he wants to know what she wants, she says to talk.
The Pub
Darcy is saying so he walked in on you naked, Serena says no, Darcy says it explains many things. Serena was getting changed and he walked in, she was covered then he nearly had a fit then gave her an official warning, she wants to know if he has problems. Darcy says to give him a break, he was embarrassed, he has seen you undressed and she is quite attractive, which she replies quite attractive and Darcy says extremely attractive but has to go to surgery. Serena is grateful as she is cheered up heaps and wants to know if a doctor and a receptionist is appropriate which he says not so they will meet again after work.
Lou arrives with a sign and asks what Darcy and Serena think, Darcy reads "Lou's fiery pit", Lou says it is retaliation to Harold's God bothering signs.
Lou leaves and Darcy says "Hell hath no fury", Serena asks if that is a woman and Darcy says a publican is much worse. Then agree to have a drink at the Fiery pit.
Coffee Shop
Genevieve says that Chris has done really well this year, Evan has done a great job with Matt, Evan wants to move past the small talk and know why she really called, she said to say hello, they do not need to be strangers as they are no longer married, Evan wants to know if there is a problem with Chris, Genevieve says it is sad they no longer speak as they had two children together. Evan says then you met someone else and left, he managed to get over it and bringing up the past is not a good idea. She says there were good times as well, Evan wants to know why she called, she says to get in touch and why is he being like this before wanting to know why there has to be an ulterior motive.
No 26
Joe says he is smug, and he hates smug, why is he so superior and what has he got that I don't have. Steph says like a lawnmower, kids, debts. Lyn says for politics you need a very thick skin and is he sure he wants to through. Steph says think why you want to do it, Joe likes the idea of giving something back. Steph says he should go for it. Joe says it is not as if the whole creek will be affected, he checked and it is only a little bit, "Greenies". Lyn says he cares about the environment, Steph says he is a "Greenie", Joe says he is not. Steph says he is as much as the next bloke and it is how you think about it and how you put it across, Lyn says and how you listen. Joe says he listens, Lyn says he listens well and Steph says a lot of the time it is just being friendly, Joe says he is friendly. But Lyn says you got to rub along with people and let them have their point of view and it's not going to be easy. Steph says he could practice on Harvey, Joe says at least Harvey has a sense of fair play not Evan.
The Pub
Lou asks what Drew and Stuart are doing there, they closed up early as a lube job didn't show up, Lou says he practices what he preaches unlike some. Drew says does this concern Harold, Lou says he can be holier than thou but if it is inconvenient he can break them as fast as anyone, he has stolen the fiery fit sign, and says whats that 7th commandment, "Thou shall not steal". Drew thinks that is number 8 and Stuart says I think number 7 is about adultery, Lou had not picked Stuart as the religious type, but Stuart says his mum is a Sunday school teacher, Lou asks if he breaks number 8 does it give him leeway on number 7. Drew says he really needs this holiday, and anyone could have stolen the sign it is not necessarily Harold. Lou knows if was Harold. Stuart notices he has replaced it, which Lou holds Harold's sign and says it is written in the bible and eye for an eye a sign for a sign, he needs something catchy for his next one. Drew suggests "preachers are leeches", then Stuart suggests "sinners are grinner's", Lou likes it and agrees to buy him a free drink.
School Classroom
Evan tells Maggie he had lunch with Genevieve, she wanted just to chat for old times which Maggie says is odd, Evan says they talked about nothing in particular, she says it is just like Genevieve. Evan says Leo thinks he should stand for council as he would be good, which Maggie agrees but it does have the downside as you don't want to feud with the Scullys like he did with the Kennedys, Evan says Susan and I are now friends and Joe Scully is an idiot.
The Pub
Joe says Evan Hancock is an idiot, Stuart agrees and Drew introduces him, Joe wants to know what Drew's issues are. Drew says he has a big crank shaft job on tomorrow, and Joe has his vote and he doesn't have to convince him, Stuart asks if he is running for parliament, Joe says council. Stuart says he will vote for him. Drew says he has everyones vote, but Joe says he doesn't have Evans, as Evan does not think as a builder Joe understands the issues, Stuart agrees and says they do not need more people like that running the show, Joe says it is Karl all over again but Drew will not hear a word against Karl, Joe says that if you give people like Evan a uni degree and they think they know everything, Stuart says the ordinary man needs to be heard so he has his vote.
Lou arrives with a sign, and asks what they think and when he gets back he wants a report on Harold's reaction, Joe says he can see why Lou chucked in mayor it must have been a civil war, but Lou says he was a popular mayor. Joe says he has a uni degree too.
Coffee Shop
Evan meets up with Genevieve, she says twice in one day, he wants to know what she wants as he knows she is not saying something. She had a scare a tumor she has had tests and is is benign, but she was scared and it made her think about mistakes she had made it made her reassess.
Street
Drew, Emily and Leo wave good bye to Lou, Drew asks if they will look after Lou's house and gives them another $5, Leo and Emily leave.
Stuart arrives and asks where Flick lives, Drew points him and says don't say I didn't warn you.
Coffee Shop
Genevieve says waiting for the results was terrible, Evan says the results were good and she discussed this with your husband which she says she did, he was reasonably sympathetic, she shouldn't be laying this on him, her marriage is not in the best of shape and she wanted someone ambitious going places now he doesn't want to take her.
The Pub
Darcy has spoken about Serena coming back to work, and he was uneasy, and he had a thought as he is going away to a conference next week. She could come back then and get settled and it would be easier on everyone. Darcy says she is in safe hand with him, she has brought him a gift which he is grateful of. Serena says so we are here breaking all the rules, he says thats what they are for to be broken.
Coffee Shop
Genevieve apologizes as she feels stupid, she needed someone to talk to, Evan suggests counseling but she says it takes two and she has made a mess of her life and asks him to get Matt to call her as she leaves she says hi to Maggie.
Maggie asks why Evan is meeting up with Genevieve, he says he wanted to know what was going on, then that she has emotional problems, and they through her off balance and she needed a shoulder. Maggie asks if he will get Matt to call her, he says she would like him to.
No 22
Emily is making it hard for Leo to sweep up the leaves, when he hears a noise and wants to know what it is, Emily says it is a cat, but he doesn't have a cat, then she says maybe Lou came back, before he goes to investigate and finds the door open.
