Charlie telling Toadie that she loves him and wants to marry him.
Medieval Joust
Toadie stutters about marriage and says that he wasn't expecting it. Charlie tries to say she was kidding, but she isn't really. Then she says they don't have to rush - they've got all the time in the world. They agree that they love each other though.
The kitchen is an absolute tip and Joel is stressed about it. He tries to make Lance clean up but he won't. Joel says he's not cleaning up other people's mess so they both become locked in a stalemate of non-cleaning.
Bill sighs loudly and Susan imitates him by sighing loudly too. Bill is clearly distracted and tells Susan that he might go to a cricket meeting this afternoon. Susan says maybe he shouldn't sign up for the cricket team if he's going overseas with Libby.
Susan is snowed under with paperwork and is frustrated that it's all administration and no teaching these days. They talk about Tess. Susan thinks she'll be a good addition to the school but is worried that she has a few personal problems.
Bill suggests that Susan cook him a roast to take her mind off things(!) Then he wanders off to the cricket meeting.
The Pub
Toadie is introducing Charlie to Karl and Lou. Whne they go to sit down, Lou remarks to Karl that Toadie is looking a bit smitten.
Amy is disgusted by the state of the house. Lance tells Amy about the stalemate over cleaning and won't let her clean anything up. Joel agrees that Amy can clean, but only if it's on her own account and not because she's Lance's girlfriend.
Amy is not impressed and calls them juvenile. Lance sits down to get on with his studying. Joel and Lance tell Amy about Charlie and the act she's putting on when she's around Toadie.
The Pub
Toadie hasn't touched his lunch and Charlie asks if something is wrong. He says that the pub is all wrong for what he wants to say. He drags her off to the lake.
Lassiters Lake
Toadie and Charlie laugh together. Then Toadie kneels down and says he's been thinking about what Charlie said earlier and he's got used to the idea. Then he asks Charlie to marry him.
Susan has heard from Ruth and asks Bill if he knows that Anne has broken up with Fanto. He tells her he does know but Susan wants to know why shy has to get all her news via Darwin now(!). Bill says it's none of Susan's business. But Susan says that if Anne came to him and said she wanted to get back together he wouldn't say no. Bill admits that she might have a point. Susan says that Anne's an attractive girl and wouldn't be on her own for long - someone could snap her up while Bill is overseas. Bill says he might not go overseas.
The Pub
Toadie and Charlie are drinking champagne and announce their engagement to Karl and Lou. Lou and Karl think it's a joke and start laughing. When they realise he's serious, they congratulate them and Lou even offers then champagne on the house.
Lance and Amy are asleep on the kitchen table. Joel wakes them up. He throws some cereal on the floor and refuses to clean it up. Then Bob walks through and eats it! Lance says that it's "nature at work"(!)
Susan is still doing paperwork and Bill brings her a cup of tea. Then Karl comes in with some "mind-boggling news".
KARL: The Toad-boy has got himself engaged.
SUSAN: To a girl?
Bill laughs and says he can't believe it. He goes off to find Toadie. Susan just keeps repeating, "To a girl?" in disbelief.(!)
The Pub
Bill comes in and Toadie raves about their engagement. Toadie asks Bill to be his best man. He agrees and is happy for them, even though it's a bit sudden. Toadie says it's wonderful and Bill should try it sometime - maybe if he gets back together with Anne(!). Toadie and Bill hug. Charlie does not look quite so pleased now.
Karl is wondering how Toadie's family will take the news. Susan and Karl both have misgivings, but Susan says Toadie's an adult and it's up to him. Susan is fed up with doing paperwork and is really missing the hands-on work with the kids. She says that she loved the job she used to have and wishes she had it back - she says she doesn't know if she wants to be Principal anymore.
Toadie and Bill come in to find Lance and Joel playing baseball with a tin can(!)
Toadie tells them that he and Charlie are getting married. Joel and Lance don't look chuffed and Toadie says he knew they wouldn't approve, but that's their problem. Amy says she's thrilled and hugs Toadie. Lance says that if Toadie is happy, then it's great.
When Toadie goes off for a shower, Bill says that Charlie seems OK once you get to know her. Lance and Joel says that's the problem - they reckon they know Charlie better than Toadie does, but he won't listen to their advice.
A posh restaurant
Toadie and Charlie are having dinner. Toadie says he used to envy Bill because he'd found the one person who was right for him in Anne. But now Bill's single and Toadie's found the person who's right for him. Toadie can't believe that Charlie wants him - it's like a miracle. He wants to do the wedding right - family, friends the whole lot. You only get to do a wedding once, and for him, it's forever.
Lance, Joel, Bill and Amy have been playing cards. Lance and Joel are still worried about Toadie and Charlie. Amy very tactlessly tells Bill that now Anne has broken up with Fanto he should ask her out again. Bill ignores her and leaves.
Amy sees a cockroach cross the kitchen and screams. She leaves too.
A posh restaurant
Charlie asks Toadie if he's thought about how soon he wants them to get married. Toadie says maybe in the Spring, but Charlie says that's not practical for her. She admits that her visa is running out in a few weeks, so they have to have the wedding before that, or not have it at all.
