Geri tells Drew that they have so many complications - him being infatuated with Libby, Libby hating her, her going out with Joel and Joel being his best friend. He says they should talk about it, but not in the pub, somewhere private. He invites her back to his place. Drew and Geri get close at Number 22 - snogging away on the sofa. Geri breaks away in the middle and says this isn't solving their problem. Drew says they can't spend the rest of their lives worrying about what their mates think. Joel meets Spiro at the park while out on his bike. They have a chat and get onto the subject of Joel's knee. Joel says the doctor's don't think he'd stand a chance competing in the triathlon, but Spiro says they don't know anything, only he would know what he's capable of. Spiro offers to be his training partner. Lou goes to see Phil and says he called Gordon to thank him for the evening they had at the club. He mentions a wine auction that Gordon told him about and he says it's just the thing to secure him a membership. Later, Lou shows Phil a $200 bottle of wine that he bought to impress Gordon. He goes on again about his membership being in the bag. Phil has to tell him that Gordon isn't going to nominate him. Lou is none too pleased! Geri talks to Drew about the decor at Number 22 and thinks it could be changed for the better. Lou comes in angry after Phil's news about the club, he heads off to bed. The next morning, Geri talks to Lou about the decorating job done on the house. Lou says it was done by his late partner Cheryl who had an amazing eye for colour. Geri says it's a shame that it's beginning to wear. Lou says he's been meaning to change it but doesn't know where to start. Phil comes over in the middle and says his conscience is bothering him. Lou says he admits it then, he didn't want him to join the club because he didn't want him to cramp his style - he's just a snob. Phil tells Lou he knows that's not true, he can't nominate new members, it's out of his control. Lou says it must be a relief not to have to nominate his embarrassing friend. He says he'll get into the club his own way, without any help from him or Gordon. Hannah and Anne chat about Paul and Bill. Anne agrees that Paul's over-reacting about the Pascale thing, but Hannah feels uncomfortable when Anne starts talking about why Bill suspects she wants to go out with Fanto (don't forget Hannah caught him looking at the diary). Anne talks to Libby later about the whole thing with Fanto, she says she can't work out what's wrong - unless Bill's got a guilty conscience himself. Libby says there's no way he'd have anyone else, he worships her. Libby says that if they care about each other they should fix it before it falls apart. She invites Anne to watch some TV with her to cheer themselves up! She stays for hours! Anne asks Libby why she's so down, but she tells her it doesn't matter. Bill comes in and Anne says she needs to talk to him about everything - they get into an argument and Anne says she can't handle it any more, there's nothing going on between her and Fanto. She says she's starting to wonder if it's all worth it. Bill says she's been building up to this, dumping him so that she can go out with Fanto. She says it's all in his head, he says yeah... and in her diary. Libby listens on and Anne walks out. Libby asks Bill what's got into him -he and Anne have got something that most people envy and he did something as crass as read her diary. He tells her not to get all judgemental, if Darren's diary was lying on the table in front of her she'd read it. She says she wouldn't but he says she's lying. Libby tells him to get a grip. Anne talks to Hannah about what's happened and says that maybe Bill didn't read the diary because there was nothing for him to get upset about in there. Hannah says that sometimes things can be innocent but not look very innocent. Anne immediately realises that she knows something and asks her straight out. Hannah has to tell her that she caught him reading the diary. She says she was going to say something but Bill felt really guilty about it. Anne gets angry at her and they start to argue - Ruth, who has been listening, comes in and says they need to discuss this calmly. Hannah says it's not the worst thing a boyfriend could do. The next morning, Ruth tells Anne not to let the whole thing develop into something more than it is or she could lose something she really wants to hang on to. Hannah comes in and apologises to Anne, she accepts it and says she realises it must have been pretty difficult for her. Hannah says Bill never told her what he'd read to get him so mad, Anne says she was lying awake all night thinking about it and she can't work it out, she says maybe he just doesn't want to go out with her anymore. Bill sees Anne at Number 26 and apologises for reading her diary, but he says he still feels like she was going behind his back. She asks what he calls reading her diary - she asks how many times he read it and he says more than once. He asks how many times she's seen Fanto behind his back. She says it doesn't even come into it. Bill grabs her diary and says he wants to show her something -he jumps to a page in the diary and reads from it. It's about him taking his work too seriously and how Fanto would be a real catch if she was single. Anne tries to grab the diary back and they have a tug of war with it, Bill lets go and Anne is flung backwards onto the settee. Bill asks her if she's okay but she gets up and has a cut under her eye where the diary hit her. She screams at Bill to get out. |
