Hannah tells Lance and Anne that she's going to tell her Dad what she saw. They start to argue and Anne shouts that she can't tell Phil... just as he walks in the door. He asks "can't tell Phil what?" Hannah says she saw Ruth today at Lassiter's hugging a man and getting into the car with him. Ruth comes out from the bedroom (where was she when all the shouting was going on?!) having overheard what was said. She reveals that she's been meeting Lance and Anne's father who is in terrible trouble after being left by his wife - his business went bust and she cleaned out his bank account and ran off. She was the only one he could turn to and she admits to lying every time she went to see him. Hannah is upset by this and she has a go at Ruth for lying, Lance and Anne stick up for their Mum and accuse Hannah of being a troublemaker and not getting any better after her trip to France - Hannah storms out and Phil goes after her. Hannah goes to the Coffee Shop just after it's closed but Harold lets her come in and she sees Paul, he apologises to her about the Jade thing but she is short with him and asks for a coffee. She apologises too and says it's something else, not him. Phil walks in and asks Hannah to come home, she says she doesn't want to - they all hate her. Phil says they didn't mean to say those things and he manages to get her to go back. Ruth tries to talk to her when she gets home and apologises, Hannah asks her if that's it and then goes to her room. Phil tells Ruth that he can understand why Hannah is upset, he's not happy himself over the whole thing. Ruth says she thought she was doing the best thing and reminds him about the last time he met her husband, Bill (it was very confrontational). Phil says trust is very important to him and he could have helped. Ruth says it didn't occur to her and that she's had enough, she goes to bed and leaves Phil on his own. The next day, Anne and Lance discuss what has happened and agree that Ruth should have told them she was seeing their Dad. Anne says it must be tough on her Mum too but Hannah says she can't believe their attitude and how they're not considering Phil. She says that Ruth has been sneaking around for weeks and has treated them all badly. Lance heads off to his new job in a bad mood and Hannah walks out and tips up his breakfast bowl for good measure! Lance meets Chris again outside the Coffee Shop and gets him to place another bet for him. When Chris leaves, Harold goes over to Lance and tells him that he's really turned out to be an enterprising young fella and will be rolling in money soon - he adds that his Mum should be very proud of him! Later, Lance returns to the Coffee Shop and Harold asks him how he's getting on with the job, Lance says it's going okay and the boss seems to be pleased with him. Phil comes in and asks Lance how he's feeling after everything that's happened, Lance says he's not sure but tells Phil that he's been thinking that his Mum did what she thought was right but she went about it the wrong way. Phil says that he might be right and they're both working on things. He changes the subject and says that Lou's found another ute (utility vehicle to us Brits) he could buy. Lance is hesitant and says his money is still tied up (with what we wonder...), he says that one minute Phil tells him to save his money, next it's go out and spend it. Phil takes his point but says as soon as the money is free he's got to buy a ute. On the job later, Lance listens to a race on the radio and looks annoyed - obviously he didn't win. His boss, Larry (so he was real!), comes up behind him and says he did a good job there which makes it hard for him to have to let him go. Lance asks what he's talking about and Larry produces one of his gardening leaflets that he distributed with Anne, Larry says he can't give work to the opposition and even though Lance says he won't hand out anymore, Larry's decision is final - he's fired. Harold tells Paul that he's been talking to Susan about the educational facilities in Port Lincoln and got him some brochures, not that he's trying to push him away he just has his welfare and best interests at heart. Paul and Tad continue to argue about Jade, Tad accuses him of pinching her off him in the first place but Paul thinks that's laughable and says that she's only with Tad to get back at him They start being a bit more civil with each other and talk about the communications seminar that Susan is organising - Tad thinks it sounds like some sort of new age garbage! At school, Susan starts her talk about communications and conflict resolution and asks someone to talk about a conflict in their life - no-one comes forward so she picks on Tad. He just gives joke answers so Susan turns to Jade who says the main cause of conflict in her life is people telling her lies, she looks at Paul! Susan asks her how she feels when someone lies to her, she says she feels angry and wants to get back at them - she again looks at Paul. Paul then pipes up and talks about a conflict in his life (which is clearly the Jade-Tad situation). Susan asks about a resolution and Paul says that they just need to talk it over. Tad and Jade then continue to talk in a roundabout sense about what's been going on and Susan manages to stop it before it gets out of hand! She picks Hannah next who says that the biggest cause of conflict is a lack of trust, she is probably talking about the Ruth and Phil situation but Paul's look says that he thinks he's being got at yet again. Phil comforts Hannah when she comes home from school and they talk about trust, Phil says she can still trust Ruth, she just made a mistake. Hannah then bumps into Paul outside and asks her if it was him she was talking about in class, she says it might not have been - he says he wants them to be friends but Hannah asks if they can talk about it at another time, she isn't rude though and tells him that she just has another problem on her mind. As she walks away she asks him if he'll ever get back together with Jade, he says there's no point really so she says maybe they could be friends again. Lance bumps into Anne at the Coffee Shop and tells her what happened with his job. She asks him if he's gambling again and he's angry that she'd even suggest it, he says he's been going to Gambler's Anonymous meetings every week. Ruth comes in and sits with them - Anne asks her how their Dad is coping, Ruth says he wasn't coping at all at first so she had to help him. Anne says that his life is being put back together while their's is falling apart, Ruth says it's not that bad but Lance agrees that it is - Ruth says that the more she tries to fix it the worse she makes it. Anne says it leaves one small problem but Lance says Hannah is more than a small problem. Ruth, Lance and Anne go back to Number 26 and Ruth tries to talk to Hannah. She says that she doesn't blame her for being angry but she was trying to avoid causing any pain for any of them, she didn't intend to involve them. Hannah doesn't alter her opinion, she says she doesn't care what she intended to do, she only knows what she did and that she can't really trust her. She says she doesn't know how they can be a family. |
