Lance and Amy breaking up.
Phil telling Lance he looks rough.
Amy saying that their whole future rests on a few weeks of exams.
Lance collapsing in the exam room.

Lance is under a duvet on the sofa. Karl comes in, looks in his mouth and diagnoses glandular fever despite the tests being negative. Lance is worried about failing Year 12. He looks terrible.
Kennedys
Phil is asking Susan about what Lance's options are regarding his exams. Susan says she'll try and get permission for Lance to do his exams at home. The dog is still barking.

Toadie is speaking to his mother on the phone. He tells Karen he thinks his mother is trying to ask him something but never quite comes out with it. She only says that his Aunty Coral is having a breakdown and that his cousin Tad's in trouble. Toadie is irritable that the dog keeps barking.
The Coffee Shop
Karl asks Harold about volunteering with the Salvos. Harold asks him if he's going for Citizen of the Year(!). Harold says the Salvos are always looking for people - he'll see what he can do.

Karen tells Toadie that she doesn't want to pilot the flying machine - she's changed her mind.
Kennedys
Karl tells Bill and Susan that Harold has put him in touch with a hostel that need a doctor to help out. Karl says he'll get a locum one afternoon a week so he can do it.

Toadie is trying to talk Karen around about the flying machine. Karen says both Amelia Earhart and "Helium" Karen never came back! Toadie begs her - they need the money to go to Bali. Karen says if she dies she'll come back and haunt Toadie(!)
Martins
Amy comes round to see Lance. Phil suggests she has a checkup, but Amy reckons she'll be OK as she and Lance haven't been snogging much recently(!) Phil says he hopes they'll make it up as Lance really cares about her. Amy looks pleased.
Lance comes in to see Amy. Phil keeps him away from Amy in case he is contagious. He says he has a birthday present for her. Amy says she'll see Lance tomorrow - he can give her the present then. They share a long look.
Garden of No.30
Sarah and Toadie are fed up of the dog. Toadie chucks it a bone and the dog stops barking briefly. Toadie and Sarah despair.
The Coffee Shop
Harold tells Phil that Susan has asked him to supervise Lance's exam. They chat about the flying machine competition. Harold says he and Madge are quietly confident about wining.
Martins
Amy is tending to Lance. He gives her a birthday present. Lance says his gambling is all in the past. Amy tells him not to make promises - he has to take it one day at a time. Amy says she believes his apology is sincere. For the first time, Lance tells Amy he loves her. Amy says she knows he does and she cares a lot about him too. But Amy says she can't get back together with him just like that.

Toadie is on the phone to his Aunty Coral. He tells Sarah and Karen that he has a problem - his cousin Tad is coming to stay. He swears it's just temporary. Tad is coming so that Toadie can straighten him out(!). Sarah is incredulous! Toadie says he is a responsible law student - he doesn't like ti but he owes Aunty Coral a favour for helping him when he was young. Sarah isn't very chuffed. Toadie tells her Tad's already on his way!
Martins
Amy tells Lance she doesn't trust him. Lance says he's dealing with his gambling problem. Amy says she's glad but she still can't get back with him. Lance asks her if he died tonight, would she miss him? She admits that she would - but she'd get over it(!)
Garden of No.30
The dog is still barking. Karen suggests singing to the dog. Since they can't think of anything better, Toadie sings "You ain't nothing but a hound dog". The dog stops barking - briefly. Karen and Sarah tell Toadie to keep singing. It seems to be working!
Martins
Lance is preparing to do his exam at home and brooding about Amy. Harold is going to supervise him.

Toadie has stopped singing - he has to study before Tad gets there. So he's set up a stereo in the garden instead! They go out to spy on the dog. The bone they gave the dog flies over the fence with a note saying that they tried to poison his dog and that they're dead meat!
