No.24
Marlene comes home and Sam's redecorated. She loves it. Lou struggles in with the cases. He jokes about the weight of the bags and says that he might have to check if they have all of their cultalry at 22. Marlene says she could do with some new stuff to go with the new paintwork. Lou says she can stay at 22, they don't mind. Marlene says she's fine. Lou tells her to stay ok. Marlene says she's fine. Sam says he'll look after her. Sam says Lou ought to not try and convince Marlene too much...he'll end up being the first son in law to convince his mother in law to live with them.
No.28
Mel talks to Billy and Susan about the situation. She says that her parents expect Andrew to be perfect...or, more accurately, normal. Susan can't believe it but Billy says he'll talk to her. He says he loves her but she's prejudiced. She doesn't understand that gay isn't ok. Mel says she decides stuff for herself but Billy says she doesn't. She has no reason to not believe it is wrong - she just follows her parents. Susan smiles.
Rob's house
Jo's eating with Rob. He comments she's young and good looking. They talk about Sam and Marlene being overprotective of Jo and Rob says he'll meet them for brunch so they can meet him and understand that he's nice.
No.28
Mel apologises to Susan and they say it's not her fault. Susan says to force a personal opinion on something is wrong. Mel says that Andrew is one of the best teachers they've ever had.
BILLY: She means MUCH better than you, Mum!
They laugh but Mel's shocked and tries to cover it but Billy says they were joking. Mel's going to try and sort it out.
Pub
Lou's ribbing Phil about his weight when he's eating - saying as a retired man, he won't burn off the calories.
PHIL: Well, thanks for the advice, Lou. Of course, you're standing there built like Arnold Schwarzenegger!
Lou can't understand why Phil's jacked in the newsagency after spending so long working on it. Phil says it didn't interest him anymore - he's after new challenges. Lou jokes that it'll be looking at the situations vacant board. Phil laughs...ahh. Ahem. Phil tells him he has a new job and Lou asks him what it is....Phil's lost for words but Mal comes in just in time. He asks for a sports drink and Lou comments on how predictable he is - unlike Phil who's got him completely flummoxed. Lou goes out of the back to get the drink. Phil says it's lucky Mal turned up when he did - Lou'd make a very good police interrogater but Mal says he shouldn't hide it - he's not just any romance writer - he's Philippa Martinez! Phil shuts Mal up and Mal says he ought to 'come out' because it won't just be Lou who'll be asking. Lou walks in and hears the line, 'Not just Lou' and asks what won't just be him. Phil stumbles over a cover story...
PHIL: N-n-not just Lou's...going to take advantage....of my services...in my new line of work.
LOU: And what is that?
PHIL: Er, I'm er, I'm going to be a...
(Lou opens the till)
PHIL: (a little faster) Financial consultant! I'll advise people. About finance.
Lou looks pleased for him - 'A money man again, eh? Who'd have guessed?' Phil grins and Mal just smirks.
No.24
Marlene says she's organising Sam's birthday. Sam says he was hoping she'd forgotten. Sam tells her that she invited the wrong football team last year. Jo wanders in and invites them to meet Rob. Sam asks why and Jo says it's to stop suspicion. Sam says he wouldn't mind knowing Rob a bit better.
No.22
Cheryl says she's got a postcard from Brett. She wants to redecorate 22 - it looks so 80s. Lou tells her no. She says Sam could do it.
LOU: When I'm a famous male model for Stefano Gold, we'll be able to afford it. Until then, don't hold your breath waiting.
Cheryl laughs and Lou tells her about Phil's plans to be a financial advisor. He comments on how he was a bank manager! Lou says he's worried that he won't get enough customers. Cheryl looks thoughtful.
Rob's house
Marlene and Sam are at Rob's place. Marlene goes on about the size of it and Rob says that's why it's nice to have Jo there. Rob says he's in business but doesn't reveal what it is. Marlene says it appears he's very good at it. Jo mentions Sam's in business - he's a handyman!
No.22
Phil goes to see Lou and says that he's only starting out as an advisor and he doesn't think it's wise to tell lots of people about it. Lou thinks that he'd be better telling people to get customers. Actually, this scene is really ironic considering how Phil left...
LOU: Word of mouth is what you guys live and die by in that business, isn't it?
Phil says that just for the moment they should keep it between themselves. Lou comments that Phil's deadly serious and Phil agrees.
LOU: Oh dear.
Cheryl pops into view - 'Philip! Just the man...' And we all know where this is going, don't we? Cheryl gushes about Phil's new career.
LOU: Whoops. (walks off)
Cheryl wants to hire Phil. She says she'll probably be his first customer - Phil agrees! She chats a bit about what he should do first and then chucks his cheek and says she expects the very best advice he's ever given. Phil just smiles. Poor sod.
School
Mel's crying. She doesn't know what to do. Billy hugs her and Susan appears. It transpires Mel's parents have gone mad after Mel talked to them - her marks dropped after Andrew started teaching her but that was due to George and Billy getting together, not Andrew's teaching. Susan says she has to tell her parents that it wasn't Andrew's teaching, it was other circumstances. Mel said she did and that's when they told her...she falters and Billy fills Susan in - they're taking Mel out of the school.
Rob's house
Rob says something but the sky connection broke up....and continues to do so....and still...Jo walks off. Ahh, thank you Sky connection. Marlene reckons Rob's crook because of all of the money he has. Sam agrees and they think that he's taking Jo for a ride. Marlene says they ought to have a nose about inside - they never know what they'll find.
No.24
They arrive back at 24 and Jo says it was a great time. She gushes about Rob and Sam says that he's not convinced - he still hasn't told them all what he does for his job. Sam drops it that he looked through Rob's stuff and Jo blows up. They argue and Sam says he's just asking all of the questions Jo should be asking - they know nothing about him. Jo storms off.
No.28
Susan's arguing with Mel's dad on the phone. As she rants, he hangs up. She says Mel's parents aren't very flexible. Mel's gutted that they won't listen to her. Dahl makes a few noises (what a star that bird is) and Billy says that even Dahl thinks everything will be ok.
No.22
Danni's reading and Cheryl says it's weird that all of the rooms are empty. She suggests Danni could move in and have a room for a design studio. She's worried about Danni sharing with Luke in 30 because he's 'not right'. Danni says he's fine. The phone goes and it's the guy who's sailing with Brett. Brett's been arrested for smuggling drugs.
