Doug is depressed that he didn't get the job and thinks he must be too old. Pam tells him to relax for today as it's Father's Day, he can start looking for another job tomorrow.

Hannah and Phil are doing a jigsaw. Hannah asks Phil where babies come from and he suggests she asks Julie(!) She just says it's a long story and bundles Hannah off to wash her hair(!)
Phil asks Julie if she's sure she wants to go through all the sleepless nights again when they've only just got back together. Julie says they'll be fine.

Lou and Lauren are chatting about Doug's employment woes. Lou is really glad that Lauren is back and tells her that it's all off with Cheryl. Lauren says she's an expert at breaking up couples.
LAUREN: The truth is, well, I was just jealous. I liked having you all to myself and I guess I didn't want to share you with anybody. Especially a woman I don't know.
Lou says it's fine - Cheryl's just not his style. He doesn't think Cheryl will be too upset.

Helen is sympathising with Cheryl who is in tears. As she leaves, Julie, Phil and Hannah come in. Hannah blurts out that Phil and Julie are goign to have a new baby. Helen is surprised, but congratulates them. Julie explains that she's not pregnant yet, but hopes she soon will be.
Lucy comes out in a skimpy outfit (well, for the 90s) and asks David if he approves. He is non- commital

Doug is still depressed about his lack of job and intends to go out first thing in the morning to look for opportunities. When he's gone to bed, Pam tells Gaby that she's going to retract her resignation at the hospital.

The family are talking about Paul being in Rio. Helen is sad that she may never see Paul, Christina or Andrew again. Lucy says they can fly over to visit. Julie isn't sure she wants to see Paul again after "the way he tried to destroy Philip". Phil says that Paul has left a financial nightmare for Lassiter's.
David is quite keen on going to Rio. Then he casually informs Lucy that they're going to Ayers Rock tomorrow to take some publicity shots for her portfolio. Lucy is shocked.
In the kitchen, Helen tells Julie she's surprised that she wants to have another baby. Julie thinks it will make PHil happy, but Helen isn't so sure.
Back in the living room, David and Lucy are bickering and Lucy is refusing to go to Ayers Rock. David says that Lucy will "do as she's told"(!) Even though they're married he can still sue her for breach of contract(!) Lucy stomps off to her room and the whole fmaily look worried.
Ramsay Street
Doug is heading off to find work. Pam tells Gaby she's off to the hospital to talk to her boss.
Lauren sees Cheryl in the street and goes over to her. As she approaches, we see Cheryl's point of view, and everything is blurred. She blinks her eyes.
LAUREN: I'm really sorry about you and Dad.
CHERYL: Oh, I bet you are. You little hypocrite.
LAUREN: I think we should try to be friends. For Dad's sake. I mean, living next door and all.
CHERYL: Oh, don't worry about that, I won't be around much longer. I've lost my son and now I have lost Lou. I can't see the point in prolonging the agony much longer, can you? He's a very special bloke, your old man, you look after him after I'm gone.

Lucy is sulking about having to go to Ayers Rock. He tells her she can't take too many clothes and she flounces off.
In the kitchen, Helen asks Phil how he feels about having another baby. He isn't too keen. He asks Helen to talk to Julie, but she says it's none of her business.
Employment Agency
Doug is asked to fill in a form about his employment experience. He is also asked to look on the jobs board.
Lassiter's (outside Coffee Shop)
Lou has just told Phil that he and Cheryl have broken up. He says he'll probably regret it when he's old and alone. Lou says if he was a few years younger he'd get married again and have kids. Phil is surprised, but Lou says kids have a way of making you feel younger.
Cheryl walks across the complex and Lou waves to her, but all she can see is a blur. Lou is a bit hurt that Cheryl didn't wave back.

Julie and Hannah are looking at old baby photos when Phil comes in. Hannah excitedly asks Phil if he wants a boy or a girl. Julie says she'd like to have a boy so that Phil could be close to him.
Employment Agency
Doug is being interviewed by an assistant. The lady tries to get him a job as a kitchen hand, saying there isn't much in building right now. Doug isn't impressed and says he isn't ready for the scrapheap. The lady advises him to apply for the dole.
DOUG: I don't want the dole. I want a job.
Hospital
Pam has come to see her boss, but her job is being covered by Gail. Pam talks to her about withdrawing her resignation. She says that it's "tricky" to withdraw Pam's resignation. Pam implores her to tear it up but Gail says they've already found someone to take Pam's place. Pam asks angrily when her boss will be back. It's not for several weeks. Gail says that she'll have to think it through. Pam accuses Gail of having it in for her.
Pub
Lou and Doug are having a beer. Doug is very fed up. He says that Lou is wise for breaking up with Cheryl - a man needs to have pride in providing for his family.

Helen asks David if he loves Lucy and he says he does. She says that they don't seem to get along very well. David is not very pleased and says if they ever need marriage guidance they'll come to Helen.

Lauren tells Lou that she bumped into Cheryl and she seemed really upset and her eyes were red and puffy. Lou is surprised to hear that Cheryl won't be around much longer. Lauren hopes that Cheryl isn't suicidal(!) so Lou decides that he'd better check on her. He picks the phone up and checks with Cheryl's assistant that Cheryl is at work safely (she is).

Phil tells Julie that he has doubts about having another baby. She's surprised and says she was just trying to show him how much she loves him. He relents and says he's OK with it and Julie suggests next autumn!

Lou has written Cheryl a letter. Lauren approves and says it's a very sweet letter. Lou hopes that Cheryl won't tear it up(!)

Doug comes in and tells Pam sarcastically that he has loads of interviews(!) He is very down. Pam decides not to tell him about her hospital resignation.
