Madge and Harold's
SCOTT: Didn't you tell me that Steve was just a friend and didn't I feel guilty because I hadn't trusted you?
CHARLENE: I'm just so confused
SCOTT: You're confused?!
Scott realizes that she's been off with Steve while he's been in Canberra which Charlene has admitted to. Charlene tells him that nothing really happened as they only kissed but Scott tells her that she shouldn't have done anything with him. Scott thinks that Charlene has cheated on him but Charlene refuses to believe that she has 'cheated' on anyone as she didn't know what she wanted! She now knows that she wants Scott but Scott 'doesn't want to hear it!' so storms out.
Mrs. Mangel's
Mrs. Mangel is sitting all on her own when Jane comes in and comments on the wonderful flowers that John has given her. Mrs. Mangel says that they have 'destroyed her life!' as now John has discovered her 'dual identity'. Mrs. Mangel describes John as angry and most uncharitable. Jane tells Mrs. Mangel that she had it coming but Mrs. Mangel insists that she had his best interests at heart and that hopefully once he's had time for reflection he won't let it come between them. Jane thinks he'll be hurt for a long time but Mrs. Mangel is in denial and thinks he'll get over it soon enough.
Madge and Harold's
Charlene is telling Madge how stupid she's been but Madge reminds her how she felt attracted to Lou even though she was engaged to Harold so it can happen to anyone. Madge assures her that if Scott loves her he'll get over it. Madge tells her how rocky marriage can be, especially at their young age but Charlene seems more concerned on what Scott might be telling the Robinsons. Madge tells her that she can hardly blame him for turning to his family.
Henry and Harold barge in laughing their heads off about the meeting they've just had. Harold dances with Madge away from Charlene, leaving Henry to talk to her. However, Charlene doesn't want to talk so storms off to go to the Robinsons. Harold comments on how he has seen Charlene in better moods prompting Madge to give him a cuppa.
Number 26
Helen is assuring Scott that Charlene probably didn't mean to hurt him but Scott is still angry and upset that she admitted to having feelings for him. Katie comes out of her bedroom and asks Scott what 'brandishing' means, he explains and Katie asks if he could read her some stories before bed time but Helen says that he best not as her and Scott are having a talk. There's a knock at the door so Helen goes to answer it, opening the door to reveal Charlene. Scott says that he doesn't want to talk to her right now and Helen agrees, telling Charlene that she should spare Scott's feelings and that they should both sleep on it. Scott goes to get a drink prompting Helen to take Charlene aside.
HELEN: It isn't the end of the world.
CHARLENE: It might be the end of our marriage though.
HELEN: By your own admission you've developed an attachment with another boy. Scott can't be blamed for feeling rejected. You'll have to give him some time.
Madge and Harold's
Charlene is telling Henry how she feels that everyone is against her but Henry tells her not to care about what people think and that she needs to do the right thing. He tells her that being in marriage doesn't mean people stop having feelings for other people. Charlene notices how understanding he is being and thanks him but she doesn't want Harold knowing about this. Henry tells her that he already knows and is not 'amused'. Scott comes in and asks Henry if he can sleep in the spare bed but Charlene wants him to sleep where he usually does so that they can talk. Scott is pretending that he can't hear Charlene's pleas and goes straight into the bedroom's to avoid having to talk to her.
Mrs. Mangel's
Mrs. Mangel is trying to assure John on the phone that her personal feelings have never influenced her 'Dear Georgette' column but John doesn't want to hear it so quickly finishes the conversation. Jane asks her if there's any chance for reconciliation but Mrs. Mangel doesn't think so. She thinks that what 'Dear Georgette' said in the column was exactly what he needed to hear and that it's his male ego getting in the way of them making up. Jane tries to comfort her but Mrs. Mangel is still angry and upset.
MRS. MANGEL: I broke my back showing John Worthington just how kind and caring I could be and look how I've been repaid. It's not worth it, obviously! I don't intend to make that sort of effort for anyone, ever again!
Evil Mrs. Mangel returns!
Ramsay Street
Scott is on his way to work when Charlene shouts for him to wait. Charlene tells him that she has to straighten some things out but Scott doesn't want to listen and tells her he is going to be late for work. Charlene reminds him that she really does love him but Scott tells her that she seems to love a lot of people at the moment. Charlene begs him to give her a chance but he runs off to work leaving Jane to pick up the pieces and ask what's going on.
Madge and Harold's
Harold doesn't blame Scott for not giving Charlene 'the time of day' but Henry thinks that Charlene has enough to deal with, without everyone ganging up on her. Madge asks him to not be so insensitive but Harold thinks that Charlene should have been set a better example. Harold suggests that he should help them in some way but both Henry and Madge snap and demand that he keep his nose out of it. They continue to argue until Madge says that they have enough bickering in the house already so they had better stop. She makes her way to the door and says that she's going over to Helen's to discuss the 50s night.
Number 26
Helen and Katie are doing some cooking when Madge comes in through the back and tells Helen that she's not really in the mood for planning the 50s night anymore which Helen understands. Helen asks about Scott and Charlene and Madge explains that Scott is being very stubborn but Helen says she believes that is out of order as Scott isn't in the business of picking up complete strangers!
MADGE: Charlene is not in the habit of picking up anyone.
HELEN: That's not what I meant. What I did mean was that Charlene has become involved with a complete stranger.
MADGE: Yes, well then maybe she wouldn't have if Scott had paid her the attention she deserved!
HELEN: I just can't believe she did it while Scott was away.
Madge then says that she's fed up with Helen's one-eyed opinions, so leaves.
Mrs. Mangel's
Katie is at the doorstop wanting to play with Bouncer and give him a bone but Mrs. Mangel refuses to let her in claiming that Bouncer is already exhausted. Katie comments on how all 'grown-ups' seem to be in a mood today so Mrs. Mangel asks her which 'grown-ups' these are. Katie explains that Helen and Madge have just had an argument over Scott and Charlene who are also arguing. Mrs. Mangel seems intrigued by this so invites Katie in to play with Bouncer . . . and to hear more about these arguments.
The Garage
Charlene is working on a car when Henry comes along pretending to be Santa Clause with some presents. Charlene isn't in the mood so Henry teases her by telling her what's in the bag. 'Chocolate and other goodies' they're described as by Henry. Charlene changes her mind and decides she wants the 'goodies'. Henry asks where Jim is so Charlene explains that he's gone to get some 'spare parts' which Henry thinks will be a good name for their 50s band. He manages to persuade Charlene to be a backing-singer for the night, even though Scott is also involved.
The Coffee Shop
Madge is explaining to Harold the argument with Helen she had which she seems worried about but Harold assures her that it'll 'all blow over'. Mrs. Mangel comes in and snidefully remarks on Charlene and Scott's problems. She thinks that Charlene obviously gets her 'temperament' from Madge and that Madge should have set Charlene a good example. Madge seems angry so asks her why she was acting so nice because of John Worthington but Mrs. Mangel tells her not to ever talk about him in front of her again. Madge tells her that she doesn't deserve a nice man like John, or any man for that matter which makes Mts. Mangel sob and run off.
Outside Lassiter's hotel
Jane walks over to Scott, who is sitting on his own and says that she spoke to Charlene this morning and she's really upset. Jane says that Charlene knows how he feels as she's been through it as well when she and Scott was an item. Scott explains that Charlene told him that there was nothing in it between her and Steve and that they saw each other when he was Canberra. Scott says he knows he's being stupid but he just can't bring himself to talk to her.
JANE: Do you still love her?
SCOTT: Yeah, of course I do. I'm just not sure that's going to be enough. I don't think things can ever be the same again.
