Madge and Harold's
Charlene is complaining to Scott that she's been waiting for almost 15 minutes now - even though Scott said he'd only be 5 as he's finishing off some typing. As Charlene complains shouts about having to wait for her own husband her hand movements cause the dictaphone on the side of the table to fall into a bucket of water. "My interviews!" shouts Scott. He's angry, and wants to know what's going on but Charlene begins to well up and quietly mumbles an apology as she sits down on the couch. Scott goes to dry up the dictaphone put comments on how the tape inside is probably wrecked anyway. Scott walks over to Charlene and asks her what it was she wanted to talk to him about but Charlene says that it was very important. She will talk about it - just not now. They're both angry with each other so Scott goes over to the type writer with his hands on his face as Charlene goes off to her bedroom.

The Coffee Shop
Harold is singing 'Amazing Grace' using a ketchup bottle as a microphone to Henry and Mrs. Mangel who is nodding her head. Henry tells Harold that they need to think of some 50s songs as 'Amazing Grace' sounds like something that would be played at a funeral. Harold says that he is seriously going to play it but Henry isn't pleased as it's a rock n' roll night! Mrs. Mangel says that Harold's singing was 'quite lovely' but Henry is now worried that Mrs. Mangel is being a little too kind as she's usually complaining.
John Worthington comes into the coffee shop and he and Mrs. Mangel both greet each other. John sits down next to Mrs. Mangel and says that he's found the old 50s records they were talking about which Mrs. Mangel seems delighted about. Mrs. Mangel invites John over for dinner so they can listen to the records tonight - apparently John has something important to ask her which cannot be discussed here.
The Garage
Charlene is washing a car when Paul comes over and teases her by saying that she should become a firefighter. Paul then goes over to Jim and asks what's wrong with Charlene and Jim says he thinks it's probably another fight with Scott. Paul starts talking about the 50s night and says that they should take part otherwise people might think that they're being mean but Jim wants to keep his 'self-respect'. Eventually Paul brings Jim round to the idea and gleefully says that they should call themselves 'The Rockin' Robinsons' which Charlene does not seem keen about.
Madge and Harold's

Henry picks it up thinking about how he can fix it but an angry Madge stops him in his tracks! Madge apologizes to Henry for biting his head off as it should be Charlene she's angry at but Henry asks her not to hassle her as she's going through a rough time at the moment. Madge asks him about it but Henry doesn't want to discuss it, so he walks off.
Number 26
Scott comes rushing and asks Jim if he has a really small screwdriver that would fit into the screws on an audio cassette. Jim says that he should do and goes to get one. Helen and Jim say that they think his article will be on the front page but Scott describes it as 'a mess' as the tape that had the interviews on it fell into a bucket of detergent solution because of Charlene. Helen thinks that Charlene must be feeling bad but Scott says that she can't be feeling 'half as bad' as he does.

Madge doesn't understand how she could do a thing like this, not just to herself but Scott.
Mrs. Mangel's

Henry and Harold leave when Helen comes in and discusses the 50s night with Madge. Scott says he has given up hope of retrieving the tape so goes off to bed with a depressed Charlene following on behind him. Helen says that Charlene must be feeling really bad about everything but Madge doesn't want to talk about it. "It's just something they're going to have to sort out between themselves!"
Mrs. Mangel's
John is trying to ask Mrs. Mangel 'the question' but the door keeps on knocking. Mrs. Mangel says to just ignore it but the knocking seems relentless so she goes to answer it. It's another bunch of flowers, from John for 'Georgette'. John realizes that Mrs. Mangel is 'Georgette' so calls her 'scheming' and tells her that she manipulated him into asking her to marry him. John exclaims that he nearly made the worst mistake of his life and makes his way to the door while a pleading Mrs. Mangel attempts to stop him.
Madge and Harold's

Charlene accuses him for shutting her out but Scott says that when he's writing he has to concentrate hard and shut himself out from everything, including his wife. Scott thinks she isn't telling him something but Charlene just thinks that she's being taken for granted. Scott demands to know what's on her mind so Charlene finally spills. . .
CHARLENE: I've been seeing a bit of Steve.
SCOTT: So he's been hanging around has he?
