Recap
Gail reads a letter and tells Paul Rob isn't her father.
In the office
Gail tells Paul the letter is from her mother. She reads it to him, it says her mum and dad couldn't have their own children and decided to adopt. She cries and says Rob should have told her years ago. Paul takes the letter and reads how much her mum and dad loved her. She cries and Paul gives her a big hug.
At Mrs Mangel's
Jane, Nel and Harold are discussing wedding presents for Jim and Bev, and Eileen and Malcolm. Nel refuses to pay for a gift for Eileen. She has no time for wanton stupidity!
At the Clarkes
Eileen is fussing over Malcolm and telling him he has to wear new clothes for the wedding. He shouts at her and tells her to take everything back to the shop. She runs out, upset and Des tells him he was too rough on her. It would mean the world if he'd wear the new clothes. Reluctantly Malcolm agrees.
At Paul and Gail's
Gail is reading over the letter again. Paul asks her to get in touch with her father and she snaps at him that he's not her father. She feels like she's lost her whole identity. Paul thinks she should try and see things from Rob's point of view - there were no options like IVF in the old days. She tells him she isn't bothered that she's adopted, she's bothered that they didn't tell her. She announces to Paul that their own attempt at having a child will have to be put on hold for a bit.
At the Clarkes
Malcolm has his new suit on but draws the line at a bow tie. Now the problem of the honey moon has to be solved. Malcolm wants to go to Tasmania, Eileen wants to go to a tropical beach. Malcolm sits down looking worried.
At the Robinsons
Gail has gone to talk to Helen and ask her about her adopted daughter Rosemary. Jim says he used to wish he was adopted when he was younger - his own mother bundled him off to live with an Aunt and having real parents doesn't guarantee a happy childhood. Helen thinks Gail should be grateful she had parents who loved her. Gail says she'd stuck by her dad when he gambled his life away because she thought he was her dad and she had to - now she doesn't have to.
At Paul and Gail's
Jim has gone over to see Paul who is having a row on the phone with someone, trying to track down Rob. Jim asks if Gail knows and Paul admits she doesn't. Jim gives him a hug.
At the Clarkes
Malcolm has gone to bed and Eileen suggests waking him up so they can have a chat. Des tells her it's a bad idea - he's in an irritable mood. He lectures Eileen on how much she pushes Malcolm around. He asks her if she's getting carried away with romance. She insists she isn't and goes over to talk to Mrs Mangel, she wants her to be Matron of Honour still.
At Mrs Mangel's
Mrs Mangel has gone to bed and Eileen says they must wake her up. Jane and Harold refuse and tell her she has a migraine. Eileen - "I'm not surprised. Guilt wears down one's resistance to illness." Not to worry, she's forgiven her and will come back in the morning to make her her Matron of Honour again.
On Ramsay Street
Des and Jim are jogging and run into Malcolm who is fed up of Eileen's nagging. He's worrying he'd forgotten what she was really like.
At Mrs Mangel's
Nel is trying to find a new bowls partner now she's lost Eileen. Jane worries that she'll be even worse if Mrs Clarke tries to bulldoze her into being Matron of Honour again. Harold thinks he has an idea...
Later
Mrs Mangel reads the paper as Harold quizzes Jane on her friendship with Charlene now that she and Scott are married. Jane tells him how wonderfully they still get on - marriage, and an affair with her husband, have changed nothing between them. If anything, they get on better than ever (Seriously, I'm not making this up). Harold pointedly states that that's the beauty of true friendship. He asks Mrs Mangel what she thinks? She tells him exactly what she thinks - that was the most transparent ploy she's ever witnessed. She walks out asking them both if they take her for a fool?
Outside
Mike is doing sit ups on the street, in the road! Jane tells him he could get more exercise going to the shop for her. He agrees but only if she comes too. They set off and talk about the pressure Eileen's under, bumping into Mrs Mangel on the way. She's on her way to see Eileen and tells Mike she'll see him at the wedding tomorrow. Jane looks after her in confusion as Mike says he thought she couldn't get her to change her mind.
At the Clarkes
Eileen is yelling at Des to hurry up, she needs to wash her hair (again). She opens the door to Mrs Mangel in her rollers. Nel tells her that although she has doubts about the union she would be happy to be Eileen's Matron of Honour. They hug and then Nel asks about the honey moon. Eileen reveals that she's made the booking for the honeymoon she wanted, and paid the deposite... Malcolm does not look happy.
At Paul and Gail's
Gail opens the door - Rob is there. He tells her he came as quickly as he could but she pulls away from him, saying he's not her father and should leave her alone.
