At the office
Jane is getting the good news about Scott when Glen comes into the office to ask her out for dinner. She agrees but says they need to talk first. Mrs Mangel comes in and asks for all the news about Scott.
At the Ramsays
Charlene has come round and is drinking tea whilst trying to explain why she fainted. Helen says it isn't surprising, its not every day one's husband is lost at sea. Madge - "I'll give him lost at sea if he ever pulls anything like this again!" Charlene tells her to forget yelling at him, he's her husband and she's the one who'll be yelling. Madge agrees but says she thinks they should open his exam results incase it's bad news. Charlene snatches the envelope off her and says no way. Nobody is to know what the results are until Scott does. Helen agrees with her.
At the coffee shop
Eileen rushes in to see if Mrs Mangel and Harold have heard the news about Scott. Nel tells her they have and she hopes he appreciates the worry he's put everyone through. "It's all very well for him rushing off having a good time..." Eileen changes the subject and asks if she remembers the car raffle is being drawn that afternoon. Nel points out that she doesn't forget anything, unlike Eileen cancelling their date on Saturday. Eileen reminds her she had a sick husband to look after. She rushes off back to him and Nel comments to Harold that's its pathetic a woman of her age playing Doctors and Nurses (!). Harold asks if the car raffle is a big deal and she says my word it is. She fully intends winning the car for Jane, so much so that she bought 50 tickets - at $2 each. Harold thinks this is excessive but she reminds him it's no worse than his gambling on the stock exchange, much to his displeasure.
At the Ramsays
Scott arrives home and is greeted by a big hug from Charlene. Madge drags everyone into the kitchen to give them some space and Henry starts recounting Scott's survival story. We go back into the living room where Scott is telling Charlene how he climbed the cliff. She isn't really listening and in the most feeble ever yelling session tells him if he ever does anything like that again...she doesn't know what she'll do. Scott teases her and asks if she'll yell at him, or hit him? She nods before giving him a big kiss which Henry quickly interrupts. He wants to know if Scott's opened his letter yet. Charlene tells him he's had enough excitement for one day but he insists he wants to open it now. Except, he's too scared to open it.
Also, he can't use his hands so struggles with his teeth, to no avail. Lucky Charlene gets to open the now soggy envelope, then passes the paper to Scott to read out the good news, telling him it doesn't matter if he didn't pass - at least they've still got each other (bless). Also looking on the bright side (!) Jim tells him he can always sign on at the engineering works. No need, however - Scott ripped it in (or something)! Cue scene of mass celebration.
At the coffee shop
Mrs Mangel is lying in wait for Glen and orders him to sit at her table. He sits down somewhat nervously for her lecture. Straight to the point, she asks him how old he is. He refuses to answer so she answers for him. She imagines he's nudging 40. I imagine he's nudged past that myself. She reminds him Jane isn't even 19 yet, and he could quite easily be her father. Is she to take it his interest in her is paternal? Of course not. He tells her he understands her concern, but he's very fond of Jane.
Nel - You are a middle aged man. Jane is a beautiful young woman. Of course you're very fond of her.
Harold comes over to check things are okay and Mrs Mangel stands to leave, warning Glen that she loves Jane and if he hurts her... Jane walks in and she leaves. Jane asks if she's been hassling him but Glen says not. He asks Jane what she wants to order but she just wants to talk...
At the Ramsays
Henry is making toasts to everything under the sun so Charlene orders everyone to leave, Scott needs to rest. Scott pulls her onto his knee for a cuddle and tells her he thought he would die last night and had said goodbye to her. She says she'd tried to imagine life without him but couldn't. She reminds him that if he ever does anything dumb like that again... but Scott stops her by saying she'd kiss him and tell him that she loved him. She smiles and agrees before giving him a kiss and a hug.
At the Robinsons
Helen is painting "some wonderful outback character who'll always remain a mystery" as Jim pours himself a drink. They chat more and are surprised by Lucy arriving home in the living room. Helen exclaims that she isn't due home until Wednesday, leaving Jim to point out that it is Wednesday. He apologises and says they've missed a day because of troubles at home. Lucy doesn't seem too bothered, she's on cloud 9 after her holiday.
At the coffee shop
Jane is stuffing her face with cake and Glen reminds her she'd said she wasn't interested in eating. She laughs and asked where she was upto in her tales. He goes through a long list of things she's mentioned, all about Mike... He's been thinking about them and realised he's been acting like a stupid middle aged man - he has nothing in common with her and thinks she knows it too. She asks if he means he doesn't want to see her anymore and he protests that he does, but he isn't going to. He asks her to give him a friendly kiss and go, and she does!
At the Robinsons
Jim asks Lucy about her trip, sounds like she had a great time. He can't believe how old she seems. She brings in a tree she's brought back for Charlene, and Rick's ant farm which she's brought back for herself.
At the Waterhole
Henry's trying to talk Madge into scratching his back, he's peeling, but she refuses because Nel Mangel is matching up. Unperturbed Henry asks Mrs Mangel to scratch his back instead! She chases him away then remarks to Madge that no doubt Henry's one of the reasons Harold has cancelled the wedding... Madge insists that the wedding is not cancelled, it's merely postponed, and calls Mrs M an interfering old boiler! Nel fights back saying she'd expect no better from a barmaid. Eileen rushes over to calm the situation dragging Nel off to the raffle meeting, Madge asking her "What's she? The booby prize?" She chases them both off the lawn, then takes her anger out on Henry's back, to his delight.
At the Ramsays
Lucy is singing Rick's praises to Scott and Charlene and tells them he's older now, and nicer. To Scott's horror she lets slip that he took her to a dance and kept wanting to hold her hand and kiss her. Charlene is amused and says there's nothing wrong with kissing - until Lucy tells them Rick isn't a kid anymore and kissed her with his eyes closed and everything (!). Sensing Scott is about to have a heart attack Charlene packs him off to the bedroom so she can have a proper gossip with Lucy.
At the Waterhole
Henry and Glen are talking about girls when Madge reminds Henry he's supposed to be working. As if her day couldn't get any worse, here are Mrs Mangel and Eileen back again. Nel appears reluctant to go towards Madge but Eileen pushes her forward. She traipses up and spits out that as Secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary it is her "pleasant duty" to tell her she's the lucky winner of this year's monster raffle. Henry is confused - "She's won a monster?". Eileen sets him straight, Madge has won the car! Madge yahoos with delight then leaps into Henry's arms.
