Recap
Scott, Mike and Jane's boat breaks down so Scott the Hero dives over the side to go and find help.
At the Clarkes
Des comes home and assumes his dad must have left, because Eileen is still there. She says she isn't as heartless as he thinks and his dad is lying down. She asks him if she was a good mother and he looks confused before telling her of course she was, she still is. She tells him she's been taking a good look at herself after talking to his father and she now realises she might not have been a good wife, so maybe wasn't a good mother either. He reassures her she's the best mother anyone could ask for.
In the boat
Jane is worrying about Scott so Mike suggests they play a game to pass the time. Charades. He acts out Jaws by pointing at his teeth.
At the Robinsons
Jim is cleaning the couch because Henry has got moisturiser all over it. Henry protests that it wasn't his fault, Scott tickled him between the ribs and that's his weak spot. Jim comments that he thought his head was his weak spot... (Now now Jim!) Madge comes home and gives Henry another lecture. Jim asks her what's in all her bags - she's found a dress for the wedding, plus a new bag and new shoes... You have to have the right accessories don't you Jim? Somewhat confused, Jim agrees. Madge models the dress against her and the men admire.
At the coffee shop
Mrs Mangel is trying to tell Harold he'll regret spending all that money on his wedding. He disagrees, Madge's happiness is the most important thing in the world to him, and he thought she'd be pleased for him. She tells him she's worried about losing her lodger (and his money). He asks why she doesn't get another lodger, maybe Sally or Tony Romeo? Mrs Mangel is more picky than that though, she doesn't want a home wrecker or a grease monkey moving in. Eileen bustles in and tells Nel she needs to speak to her at home - she needs her advise. Nel crows that she's glad to hear someone values her opinion - Mr Bishop has been behaving like a love-sick cow. They look over at Harold who is putting the phone down with a look of horror on his face. They ask what's wrong and he walks zombie like out of the shop, saying he needs a word with Madge...
At the Robinsons
Madge is using Jim as a mannequin to model her new dress against, and quickly pops the hat and bag on his too before dashing off to answer the door. No! It's Harold! She shuts the door on him and rushes to gather up the wedding dress before running out with it. Jim lets him in and seeing something is wrong drags Henry outside so Madge and Harold can talk. Harold tells Madge the bottom has fallen out of the shares. She is relieved that they took Paul's advice and sold when they did. Except Harold didn't. He's lost everything!
Out at sea
Jane and Mike are still waiting for news and acting out charades. Mike manages to make Jane laugh at last by jumping into the sea as his clue for "Splash!", then ruins things by trying to kiss her. He asks if he's too young for her when she pulls him away. Bluntly he tells her Glen is only after one thing.
At the coffee shop
Eileen is baring her soul to Nel, telling her she was a failure as a wife. Nel consoles her with the thought that "once you give into their desires, they are never satisfied." (The two of them talking about sex like this is making me feel a little bit queasy!) Eileen carries on that it wasn't just their love life, she changed him into something he didn't want to be. She made him work at the accountancy firm when he really wanted to be out doing something with his hands. Nel dryly comments "So it would seem!" She comforts Eileen by telling her it was Malcolm's duty to provide for his family in the most lucrative manner available. Love isn't worth a thing if you're poverty stricken and starving. She should know, she's been married almost 40 years. Eileen kindly points out that Len ran off with another woman. Nel reflects that that didn't turn out to be such a great disaster in the long run. She found it a relief to dispense with some of her "wifely duties" (feeling queasy again..) Eileen says it may be a relief to Nel, but she gets lonely sometimes. Poppycock! Nel asks how can they be lonely as long as they have each other?
At the Robinsons
Speaking of poverty stricken and starving... Harold is ruefully contemplating what a terrible mistake he's made with the shares. Madge tries to comfort him by saying she and Paul sold their shares and he's welcome to share whatever she made from the sale. He's angry and won't accept charity. Plus, he feels terrible that Mike didn't sell his own shares and doesn't have the courage to tell him. Worse news is to come for Madge, he doesn't feel it would be fair to marry her anymore and is calling off the wedding until he gets back on his feet.
Out at sea
Seems no area is off limits now on the boat as Mike's told Jane he read her diary when he was living at Mrs Mangels and can't understand why she wrote all that stuff about Scott. She is cross and says that doesn't compare to his affair with Megan. She loved him then. He replies that he still does love her, and knows she doesn't love Glen. She can't look at him - but can see a boat heading towards them. She calls it over and they're rescued by the man who hired them the boat. They ask if Scott's okay but the man hasn't seen him...
At the Clarkes'
Home from work, Eileen asks a very confused Des if he thinks it's too late for her to save her marriage. He points out that she's been separated for 20 years.
Back at the beach
Mike and Jane get back and see that the car's still parked up. The boatman reassures them that Scott could have come ashore miles up the beach if there was a current running. He thinks Scott will be sat in front of a fire drinking rum toddies.
At the Robinsons
Madge is crying her heart out to Jim who is trying to convince her that Harold will come to his senses in time. She tells him Harold can be stubborn as a goat once he's set his mind to something. Their heart to heart is interrupted by the phone ringing. It's Mike, ringing to see if Scott is there. He explains about the trouble.
At the Mangel's
She hates to say it, but Mrs Mangel did tell Mr Bishop that this would happen... He reluctantly accepts that she did. Pushing his patience to the limit she chirrups away that the only safe place for his money was in the bank. Harold snaps and asks her to kindly pipe down. His life is in tatters and he breaks down in tears. For once Mrs Mangel's kinder side is shown and she tells him he can stay with her as long as he likes without worrying about paying board until he can afford it. They'll manage somehow.
At the Robinsons
Jim is stropping at Mike and Jane for letting Scott swim off. They point out that they tried to stop him but he wouldn't listen. An air/sea search has been started but they thought Jim should be notified. Jim puts it more plainly - "What you're trying to say is you think he might have drowned, is that it?" Their silence shouts out a great big yes.
