At the office
Gail is packed up ready to leave for the night and Paul asks if she's going already. She points out that it is a quarter to seven. Paul is surprised, but asks if she can stay back anyway, there's a lot of stuff he has to get finished. Gail - "Business, business, business." She reluctantly agrees. He passes over a plaque he's had made for the newly refurbished Waterhole. This somehow escalates into a row over him renovating the pub because she took a fancy to it, even though Paul thought it should have been pulled down. She accuses him of having no soul and thinking of nothing else but business. He reminds her that she thought the same way too once.
At the Clarkes
The puppies are causing chaos and Eileen is worried about Jamie with all these diseased animals around! She tells him they'll have to stay in the bathroom - "and don't put them near the clothes basket, they'll do their business there!" Puppies safely locked up, Mike escapes to the Ramsays leaving Eileen to lecture Des on how she doesn't think he should see Sally again. Des refuses and tells her to shut up! He insists that if she doesn't leave it then his father won't be the only person he's avoiding.
At the Ramsays
Madge refuses to have her picture taken for the calendar with her hair looking a mess and suggests they put the shoot back until tomorrow. Scott worries that they won't sell any calendars at all but Madge is thinking positive and assures him he'll make a fortune.
At the office
Paul asks Gail if she wants to eat dinner with him but she flatly refuses. Instead she tells him she wants out, she wants to resign. He is shocked and asks why, when they got through that day okay. She tells him she can't stand being near him! He says in that case she can leave straight away, he'll have her pay made up and she can collect it the next day.
At the Clarkes
The puppies are yelping and wake Mike and Des up. Des suggests they put a hot water bottle in with them, or Bouncer. Eileen comes out and says that's no use, they're missing their mother. Des points out that Bouncer is their father, they might be missing him too (hoping that Jamie is missing him, obviously) She tells him not to be silly, puppies don't know who their fathers are and much less care. Des objects and says father's have rights too - either canine or human. He goes off to his bedroom in a sulk (or maybe he's going to put on a Batman costume and climb onto the roof of the Town Hall?) Eileen asks Mike if she thinks he's being selfish not letting Des see his father? He refuses to be drawn and goes back to looking after the puppies.
At the Ramsays
Madge rushes Henry off to work, Scott reminding him (and Madge) to be home on time for the photo shoot. She is about to rush out of the door when Eileen comes in for a private chat. Scott is driven out to his room and Madge sits Eileen down. She tells Eileen that Des is entitled to see his father even though it hurts - she went through the same thing with Charlene and Fred. She explains that if she hadn't let Charlene find out what her father was really like she'd still have him up on a pedestal. Eileen worries what would happen if Desmond likes his father? And what if she likes him more than her? Madge points out that that isn't likely to happen, but then has to leave for work. Eileen says she's been very, very helpful.
At the coffee shop
Eileen comes into work to Harold's surprise. He warns her that Sally is working there again today. Eileen smiles and says they can always do with an extra pair of hands, when is she starting? A bemused Mike says lunchtime. Eileen says that's a pity, she won't be there at lunchtime. Maybe she'll go to the hotel and speak to her? Mike reminds her that Des will hit the roof if there's any more trouble but Eileen insists she has no intention of starting any trouble and goes off to work.
At (Paul and) Gails
Glen goes round to see Gail and asks her why she isn't working at the hotel anymore. She says she can't stand working with Paul anymore, he's cold, ruthless... Glen interrupts that she's also head over heels in love with him. How will she get back with him at this rate? She insists she doesn't want to get back with him, and it's none of his business. He tells her the whole thing is crazy. Gail replies that splitting up with Paul is the only sane thing she's done since she married him and she'll tell him the whole story one day, then picks up the phone to ring Rosemary and tell her she's quit.
By a lake
Eileen is walking and sees Malcolm feeding the ducks. She walks over and he starts to run away. He warns her that if she's come to cause a ruckus she can turn round and walk away. She says she hasn't come for that, she's here to talk about Desmond.
At (Paul and) Gails
Gail comes off the phone and tells Glen Rosemary was terrific and gave her great advice. Glen says that's what they're all trying to do. She says the difference is he's pushing her back whereas Rosemary is pushing her forwards. "What's done is done, no point brooding about the past." He asks what she will do now she's a free agent and she tells him she has plans, big ones.
At the lake
Eileen begs Malcolm not to poison Des against her. He says not everyone is like her, he bets she's done a fair bit of damage to his name as far as Des is concerned. She insists she's only ever told Des the truth. They start to argue about the past, and a row about raspberries that lasted a week.
At the Clarkes
The puppies have unwound wool all around the living room. Des tries to round them up and carry them into the bathroom but makes a hash of it. The door goes, his dad has come to see him with Eileen's permission. Des invites him in to see the puppies (or rather to help get them into the bathroom!)
Outside the Ramsays
The family are all in their best clothes having their picture taken for the calendar.
At the office
Paul rings Jane to ask her to start back early. Gail comes in and tells Paul she has news for him - the Daniels corporation doesn't want to lose her, and Rosemary has offered her the job as her executive assistant. Paul snipes that all that toadying to Rosemary has finally paid off. She's got a flourishing career and no husband to drag her down, very convenient, very clever. He asks when she leaves and she answers early next week. Tears come into her eyes as she says "You really hate me don't you" before fleeing the office.
