Recap
Jim goes to see Bev but she's "entertaining" Stephen Armstrong. He leaves.
Inside:
Beverly tells Stephen Jim's just a friend. She sits down to talk to Stephen and tells him she knows his marriage is over - thanks to his wife, pouring a glass of wine over her. He apologises then asks why she didn't contact him if she knew he was single again? She didn't think it was up to her. He walks over with a smarmy grin and gives her a hug, before sending her off to have a long hot bath. When she gets out they can talk about their future. She thinks it's an excellent idea and kisses him.
At the Clarkes:
Des and Daphne are arguing about Jamie being at the coffee shop. Still. Mike is fed up and tells them they're stupid to be fighting all the time. Des agrees. He thinks Daphne should back down. The row begins again and Des storms off to the pub.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Eileen is worrying that she's done the wrong thing calling the Health Inspector. Mrs Mangel reassures her that it was for the best. Jane comes home with cake and tells them Mr Bishop is going out for the night. Eileen is disappointed. Jane tells them about the Health Inspector visiting and that Daphne is furious.
At Beverly's flat:
Bev and Stephen are laughing about old times and her terrible cooking. She asks why he let her move away if his marriage was almost over and he spins a line about not knowing how much he loved her until she left. He wants her to return to Adelaide with him. For good.
At the Robinsons:
Helen comes home and asks Jim why he didn't go to visit Lucy. He tells her about Stephen Armstrong and that Beverly obviously preferred his company. He asks how long Beverly was seeing Stephen and Helen thinks it was about 5 years. Jim doesn't think the few months he had with her can compare. He decides to go and visit Lucy and Helen warns him that she's wearing make-up. Heaven forbid!
At Beverly's flat:
Bev and Stevie are cosied up on the settee, even though Stephen still has his coat on. Beverly asks him what he really wants from her and he says he wants her to go back to Adelaide with him - as his wife. She says she would have walked over burning coal for that six months ago but she's changed now. He can't believe her and laughs at what she thinks are her "achievements". He isn't happy that she now has a life of her own.
At the Robinsons:
Jim comes home in search of food. His visit to Lucy has made him realise there are more important things in life than his misery with Beverly. He's even pleased about Lucy's friendship with Rick. They discuss Beverly again and he tells Helen he thinks she would be making a mistake to get involved with him again.
At the Clarke:
Des comes home from the pub and is upset that Daphne hasn't made his tea! He asks Mike if he thinks he's being unreasonable about Jamie and Mike says one of them has to back down. Des just wants what's best for Jamie so he won't be the one backing down. Mike says this must be the first time in history that Des and his mum agree on anything - he thinks maybe it was Eileen who called the Health Inspector. Des has his doubts too.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Eileen has cooked for Jane and Nel, but she was hoping Harold would be there to taste it. Mrs Mangel thinks it is time she was going. Luckily Des calls round to give her a lift back home. He thinks they should pop in to see Jamie on the way - and Daphne. Eileen looks away guiltily and gives the game away about who rang the Health Inspector. Des goes ballistic and calls her a silly interfering old woman. Nell owns up that it was her who made the call.
Mrs Mangel feigns a funny turn to stop Des shouting at her. She protests that she was only looking out for his son, and helping his mother. Eileen never thought she would see the day that Des attacked a poor defenceless old woman and Des scoffs that she's as defenceless as a sabre toothed tiger. Instantly better, Mrs M throws him out of her house. Jane begins lecturing Mrs Mangel instead.
At Bev's flat:
Stephen asks Bev about her relationship with Jim - is he the reason she's stalling about going home? He whinges that it didn't take her long to find someone else and she's forgotten everything their relationship meant. He thinks she should set this "chap" straight asap, tell him she's coming back with him. He starts to wander off to get his things from the car but she tells him he can't stay. She needs time to think. He's shocked, he'd assumed his bed was safe.
At the Clarkes:
Daphne is still insisting on taking Jamie into work that day. Mike offers to babysit Jamie at home but she won't have it. She thanks Des for sticking up for her last night and gives him a hug, but refuses to give in about taking Jamie today.
At Bev's flat:
Jim comes visiting and finds Bev in her dressing gown - she over-slept. He's pleased to hear Stephen stayed at a hotel, but not pleased to hear he's asked Bev to go back to Adelaide with him. Bev invites him to make coffee while she answers the door - it's Stephen with croissants to seduce Bev. He struts into the flat to see Jim making coffee and immediately jumps to conclusions - "Needed the night alone to do some thinking eh?" He refuses to listen to either Beverly or Jim's protests that he's only just arrived and tries to throw Jim out. They square up to each other as Bev looks helplessly on.
