Paul's
Hilary knocks on the master bedroom door with some breakfast for Paul and Gail. Since Paul and Gail are married, she automatically assumes they will be sleeping in the same bedroom. She is therefore very surprised when Paul opens the door of the spare bedroom. Paul tries to cover by saying they spilt some coffee in the master bedroom so ended up sleeping in the spare bedroom. But his cover is blown by Gail opening the door of the master bedroom! Hilary looks from one to the other and tells them that she doesn't know what's going on, but she doesn't like being lied to. She stalks off.
Paul and Gail follow Hilary into the kitchen. Gail has clearly managed to come up with a convincing cover story and tells Paul that Hilary is entitled to hear the truth. Then she tells Hilary that she and Paul had a bit of a row last night. Paul goes along with this and starts a row with Gail about her father. Hilary says she won't have a row today of all day. She says Paul will just have to learn to accept Gail's father and they'd better make up before the wedding.
When she goes out to the laundry, Paul and Gail dissolve into giggles.
Robinsons
The Robinsons are setting up for the wedding reception. Scott is panicking about his shoes, suit, etc. He's worried he's going to muck things up.
Hilary comes in and tells Helen and Jim that Paul and Gail have had a row - but she's sorted everything out now.
Ramsays
Madge is ironing her dress and Henry is getting ready. Madge is stressing a bit but Henry says everything will go well. Hilary comes in with the bridal flowers and makes a snide comment about Madge's hair. Charlene comes out wearing a facepack. Dan starts looking for breakfast.
Jane comes in with her bridesmaid dress. She's surprised that noone is ready yet and Charlene tells her that everything is going wrong.
Edna gives Charlene a garter which will be her "something blue". Charlene is very pleased and kisses her, getting some of her facepack on to Edna's face! She says it's going to be the best wedding ever!
Outside the Church
Jim, Paul, Scott and Mike draw up in a wedding car. Scott is greeted by some mates from school that Mike has invited with such comments as, "Don't know what Charlene sees in him!" and "Must be his personality - couldn't be his looks!" Scott is really pleased to see his mates there. He shakes Mike's hand. Then Scott says that all they need now is Charlene - if she keeps him waiting too long, he'll forget everything he's supposed to say!
Church
The organ is playing and the guests (Madge, Dan, Edna, Daphne, Helen, Jim, Hilary etc) are seated. Scott is stressing to Mike and Paul that Charlene might not turn up.
The organ music stops and the guests stand. As Scott looks round, he sees Charlene coming through the door on Henry's arm, dressed in a beautiful white dress and veil. He watches proudly as she walks up the aisle.
Music starts: "Suddenly" by Angry Andersen
Charlene walks down the aisle with Jane and Lucy as bridesmaids.
I only dreamed that I would find,
A loving heart and open mind,
To see the real me,
And I hoped that you would be the one...
Charlene takes her place at the front next to Scott and the guests sit. The minister starts the service as the camera pans around the church - on Jim and Helen, Des and Daphne and close-ups of Scott and Charlene. We also see Mrs Mangel eyeing up Harold!
A chance to talk, a chance to grow,
I'll take the risk, let my feelings flow,
I've found the words, I need to say...
Suddenly you're seeing me, just the way I am
Suddenly you're hearing me
So I'm talking just as fast as I can
To you
Suddenly every part of me
Needs to know every part of you.
The camera continues to pan round, on Helen and Hilary, and then Paul turning round to look at Gail. They smile wryly at each other.
And now I know that you are mine,
You bring me love and peace of mind.
You see the real me,
And I know that you're the key...
Scott and Charlene are taking their vows now as Madge cries.
Suddenly you're seeing me, just the way I am
Suddenly you're hearing me
So I'm talking just as fast as I can
To you
Suddenly every part of me
Needs to know every part of you.
The music fades to allow us to hear Scott and Charlene's "I do's" as everyone looks on happily.
Henry places the rings on the bible and Scott slips Charlene's ring on to her finger while Jane cries in the background.
Suddenly you're seeing me, just the way I am
Suddenly you're hearing me
So I'm talking just as fast as I can
To you
Suddenly every part of me
Needs to know every part of you.
Charlene lifts her veils to kiss Scott.
Just you...it's you...
Robinsons
Daphne congratulates Scott and Charlene. Jim tells Scott that he's very proud of him. Jim's very pleased that she wore Anne's cross to the wedding and welcomes Charlene to the family.
Mrs Mangel corners Harold at the buffet table - he can't find anything vegetarian.
When Harold is called away, Daphne comes up and thanks Mrs Mangel for calling off the lawsuit. Mrs Mangel says her solicitor said that $1000 wasn't nearly enough to compensate her! Daphne is outraged but in the interests of keeping the peace lets it go.
Hilary comes up to Gail who is standing on her own. She says she noticed that Gail's father wasn't at the service. Gail says he probably got tied up at the garage or something.
Lucy wants a photo with Scott and drags him off. Jane tells Charlene that she can't believe she's married. Charlene says it's Jane's turn next, but Jane says not for another ten years at least! (Or maybe five!)
Harold wanders out to the kitchen and finds Madge in tears. He is concerned but she says mothers are supposed to cry at weddings. He puts his arm around her to comfort her and Madge sobs that Charlene is so young - she was just getting to know her and now she's lost her. Harold reminds her that Charlene will still be living with her. Mrs Mangel comes up behind them and is clearly not pleased to find Madge in Harold's arms. She tells them frostily that they're about to read the telegrams. Madge tells Harold she must look a mess with all the crying, but Harold tells her she looks lovely.
Mike is reading the telegrams from Max and Marie, Rosemary and Clive Gibbons.
Jim starts to make his speech. Daphne quietly tells Des that she knows about the $1000. He says he can explain and Daphne says it had better be good. As the speech continues, Dan sees a mouse on the floor and crawls under the table after it. He inadvertently brushes up against Mrs Mangel who immediately over-reacts and starts shouting at him. An argument ensues. During the argument, Henry manages to catch the mouse and runs out with it. Scott kisses Charlene and says, "Welcome to the Family!"
Scott's bedroom
Scott and Charlene are opening presents when Gail comes in. She wants to apologise for her dad not turning up. She's brought them an envelope from her Dad that he left though - it's a four-year apprenticeship for Charlene at the garage! She tells Scott, "Now I've got everything."
(Later)
Charlene and Scott are lying on Scott's bed. Scott starts laughing and calls her "Charlene Edna". Charlene tells him off!
Paul and Lucy come in, and then Jane comes to see if Charlene wants a hand getting changed. Paul goes to put their cases in the car.
Lucy sits down on Scott's bed and says she'll really miss him. He says he'll only be next door. She says it won't be the same - he'll be married. Scott goes to the closet and says an old married man can't be racing around the neighbourhood on a skateboard. He presents Lucy with his skateboard. She is delighted and runs outside to practise (even though she's still wearing her bridesmaid dress!)
Ramsay Street
Paul and Henry have decorated Scott's car with foam and cans. Scott and Charlene run out with everyone throwing confetti over them. They get into the car as the music starts up again ("Suddenly" by Angry Anderson). Charlene waves to Madge and then they start to drive off. Then Madge suddenly remembers and shouts, "Charlene! Your bouquet!" They stop the car and Charlene throws her bouquet - it's caught by Mrs Mangel. She is very pleased and smiles at Harold who looks quite worried for a second. Scott and Charlene drive out of Ramsay Street.
