- Scott comes around from his operation and tells the Robinsons that his legs are paralysed.
Erinsborough Hospital
Helen and Jim try to reassure a distressed Scott that his body has taken a battering from the car accident and all the drugs the doctors have given him. Scott gets more distressed and asks what if he never walks again. Paul leaves the room to call Doctor Limon; Charlene who is waiting outside wants to know what is wrong. Charlene tries to go into Scott's room but Paul stops her telling her she is not wanted and that she should go home. Charlene refuses to go and demands to know what is wrong. Paul reluctantly tells her that they don't know and that once they have some news he will let her know. He goes back into Scott's room shutting the door firmly on Charlene.
Clarke House
A rather shy and awkward Jane arrives at the Clarke house to see how Mike is. Mike explains that other than cuts and bruises he is fine and invites Jane in. Mike who is still obviously upset recalls the events of the accident, how he saw the pram and Clive and Susan running after it then Paul swerving the car. Jane tries to comfort him by saying that Paul did miss the pram; she then wants to know how the others were. Mike distressed tells her that Paul was like him untouched but Scott's body was all twisted and they couldn't get him out of the car. Mike continues that Clive thinks Scott will be Ok.
Mike then takes Jane's hand gently and with his voice full of emotion says that he wants to apologise for all the things he said. He knew that she wouldn't have done anything in the bush with Shane that night and pleads with Jane to come back to him. Jane replies that she would never have gone out with Shane if everyone hadn't thought she had done something with Shane, but it is his lack of trust she can't forgive. She wants to help him but it will have to be as a friend.
Erinsborough Hospital
Clive and Doctor Limon are discussing Scott's condition, Clive wants to know if they are justified in telling the family now. Dr Limon feels that they could wait until morning but she is sure that the test result will bear her out. They go into Scott's room but just as Clive is about to go in Charlene stops him and asks him what is wrong no one will tell her anything. Clive tells her that she will let Scott know she is here.
Scott whinges that he wants to know what is going on. Clive tells him that until the tests results tomorrow it is hard to be 100% sure. Paul sneers at him that basically he doesn't have any idea. Helen tells Clive to continue. Clive gently tells them that from the x-rays and the tests they have done so far there is no permanent damage. Scott whinges "What's wrong then" Doctor Limon tells him that it is severe bruising of the spinal cord and as the bruising subsides he will lose the paralysed feeling to his legs. Jim thanks them for everything that they have done. Clive tells him that they will do a full neurological workout in the morning that will tell them once and for all his condition. Clive suggests that what Scott needs right now is rest and that they all should go home and get some rest. Jim says he will stay with Scott but Dr Limon insists that if there is any change that she will inform them. Helen thinks it is a god idea to all go home and get some rest. As they leave the room Jim offers Charlene a lift which she declines. Clive mentions to Doctor Limon that Charlene is Scott's girlfriend and the doctor allows her to have a few minutes with Scott.
Charlene goes tentatively into Scott's room and Scott tells her that he was hoping she would come. Charlene goes to sit by his bed and tells him that she had been waiting ages and that they wouldn't let her in. She gently touches his arm and tells him that she is in now and she is staying and leans over and kisses him.
Mangel House
Mrs Mangel opens the door to Shane who apologises for the lateness of the hour, but he has been working. Mrs Mangel sarcastically comments that he has been landscaping gardens in the dark. Shane points out that he has been working in a greenhouse. Mrs Mangel replies "probably with some trollop" Shane ignores that comment and asks to see Jane. Mrs Mangel has great relish in telling him that Jane has gone to console Mike over the car accident. Shane doesn't know anything about it and Mrs Mangel fills him in with the details of the accident. She understands that Paul and Mike were relatively unscathed but that Scott is still in hospital although she doesn't know the exact details. One thing is for certain that Jane will not have any more time for him now, not that she would wish a car accident on anybody. Shane, getting a little annoyed, asks "If Jane had gone to see how Mike was" Mrs Mangel replies "That is what she said but I could tell it was more than Neighbourly concern"
Jane returns and says to Shane that she wasn't expecting to see him tonight and invites him in. Mrs Mangel protests that it is very late but Jane insists she would like to be left alone, reluctantly Mrs Mangel agrees. Jane wants to know what Mrs Mangel had been saying to him. Bitterly Shane tells her that Mrs Mangel had said that she hadn't just gone to see Mike out of friendship. Jane replies "that she might have been right" Shane wants to know if she is gong back to him, Jane replies that she doesn't know. Shane asks her "Yes or No. It is no secret that is what Mike wants. What about you?" Jane tells him that he shouldn't "heavy" her; she needs time to think. Shane urges her "Think about what- it is Mike or me" Jane tells him it is not that simple she just needs some time. Shane replies that maybe he hasn't got any to give her and walks out.
Erinsborough Hospital
In Scott's hospital room Charlene is asking Scott if he ever thought they would be doing this again. Scott replies that he is glad. Charlene jokes, that having a car accident might have been a bit over the top. Scott tells her that he will know what to do next time they break up. Charlene teases him and says "Us break up no chance" Scott wants to know if there is anything going on between her and Mike. Charlene tells him that they are just mates and she was only giving him a hug for being such a good friend but as usual he jumped to all the wrong conclusions. Scott asks that maybe he was being a bit of a nerd. Charlene laughs and says "Maybe just a bit"
Doctor Limon comes in and says that it is time for Scott to get some rest and gives him a shot. She tells Charlene that it is time for her to go home and get some rest as well as she will be no use to Scott otherwise. Charlene asks if she could at least stay until Scott has fallen asleep. Dr Limon replies that Charlene is persistent but agrees, as it would not be long after the drugs she has just administered and she leaves.
Charlene asks Scott if he is tired yet and he says he isn't. She then asks if he can move his legs yet but Scott says that he can't but he feels heaviness on his leg. Charlene feels that this is a good sign because it will be the plaster. She leans over to kiss him. As Scott's eyes close Charlene leans over and tells him that she loves him. Scott opens his eyes and says he loves her too.
Clive's House
As Clive arrives home calling Susan's name Paul is sitting in the kitchen waiting for him. Clive comments that he hadn't expected to see him. Paul sneers at him that he thought he would call in on the hard working doctor that he is very good- he saves people with one hand and kill them with the other. He continues that Clive and Susan were so wrapped up in their own little world of make-believe that she couldn't even look after her own child. Clive wants to know if Paul has been giving her a hard time. Paul replies he didn't have to; she has the decency to feel guilty all by herself. Clive tries to reason with Paul and tells him he can't push the guilt onto him, a situation occurred, he reacted and Paul reacted, otherwise the situation could have been a lot worse. Paul scoffs and says that Clive is making him out to be some kind of hero and it doesn't change the basic fact, that Clive's stupidly almost cost his brother his life. Clive defends himself by saying that Susan and he are very sorry that Scott has been hurt but they are in no way responsible for what happened.
Paul shakes his head in disapproval and tells Clive that Susan lost her sense of responsibility when she got involved with him. Clive feels that this conversation isn't getting them anywhere. Paul replies that they all know that he is trying to act the responsible adult but that is all it is with him- an act. As he turns to leave he continues "and don't count on fooling Susan for too long she will soon wake up to you!" Clive raises his voice and replies that they are getting married as soon as possible, and that she has woken up to him, Paul had his chance with her and he blew it, he shouldn't let his jealousy ruin her chance of happiness. Paul points his finger threateningly at Clive and sneers that there is nothing....absolutely nothing that Clive has that he would ever want, and walks out of the house slamming the door after him.
Ramsay House
Madge arrives home to find Shane wrestling a pizza onto a plate; she apologises for the lack of dinner and asks him if he has heard about Scott. Shane asks how he is and Madge tells him that there are some problems with his legs but they are doing further tests. Shane says rather offhand that he knows how Scott feels. Madge apologises again and replies that she didn't want to remind him of his accident. Shane says that it is ancient history. Shane seems rather down hearted and Madge wants to know what else is bothering him.
When Shane replies "Jane", Madge wants to know what Mrs Mangel has done now. Shane explains that Jane was over at Mike's and that he has got her all confused about him and what she wants. Madge thinks it is only natural that Jane would be concerned and she is very young. Shane reluctantly agrees and changes the subject by asking if there are any phone messages, he was expecting to hear about the land clearing job by now.
Charlene arrives home and Madge asks after Scott and Charlene confirms that there is no real change. Shane tells Charlene to give him his best next time that she goes in. Charlene feels that he can tell him himself when he goes in. Shane is rather offhand about it and replies that he will try and find sometime and goes off to bed rather despondent.
Charlene wants to know what is wrong with Shane and Madge explains about Jane being confused about her feelings for both Mike and Shane. Charlene hopes that despite the fact that it would be rotten for Shane, Mike and Jane get back together as they belong together, just like her and Scott although they didn't realise it until tonight. Charlene then hugs Madge and smiles.
Robinson House
Mrs Mangel is visiting Helen, Lucy and Jim, as Jim comes off the phone he announces that Scott had a restful night and that he is a lot brighter this morning. Mrs Mangel wants to know about Scott's leg's is he ever going to be able to walk again. Jim looks awkwardly at Helen and replies that he doesn't know. Mrs Mangel feels that it isn't a good time for any young person to be laid- up. Helen is dismayed and replies that she doesn't think any time is a good time. Mrs Mangel continues that "But just now when he should be out looking for a job, there is a lot of competition amongst the school leavers. He may ever well find the best positions have been snapped up. Helen and Jim look at each other with dismay and Jim finally replies that that is the least of their problems at the moment.
Mrs Mangel then asks after Paul, will he be requiring any specialized treatment. Helen explains that Paul and Mike only had superficial injuries. Mrs Mangel replies "Mmmm physical maybe" Jim wants to know what Mrs Mangel is talking about. Mrs Mangel replies "Paul's mind of course" Lucy snaps that there is nothing wrong with Paul's mind. Mrs Mangel tells Lucy that in her day Children where seen and not heard. As Mrs Mangel turns as Jim speaks to her, Lucy sticks her tongue out. Jim wants to know what she means. Mrs Mangel replies that Paul almost killed his brother of course it is going to affect him. Helen feels that Paul and most other people will be sensible enough to realise that it was just an accident. Mrs Mangel agrees reluctantly but thinks that he was probably showing off to the boys. Jim defeats Paul and explains that was hardly the case he was taking Scott's new car out for a ride. Mrs Mangel feels that it is a blessing in a disguise as it will take one more tear-a-away off the roads and she would hardly expect that Jim would buy Scott another car seeing that that one had just been written off. Jim gets very irritated and asks Mrs Mangel to leave. Mrs Mangel tells Helen that she quite understands their reaction it is the shock and she will come back when they are feeling better and leaves.
Erinsborough Hospital
Charlene and Paul arrive at Scott's hospital room, bearing gifts, flowers from Jim and biscuits from Helen and Charlene and bought her cassette player so Scott could listen to some music. Paul asks if Scott has got the results of his tests yet. Scott shakes his head sadly and replies "No." Charlene fusses over Scott and the cassette player. Paul then apologises for putting him through all this. Scott is confused by this and says that Paul drove brilliantly and anyone else would have killed them all. Paul smiles but says that it is a good idea that Jim has decided to take over doing the driving lessons from now on.
Doctor Limon and Clive come into the room and give Scott the good news that the test results show severe bruising to the spinal cord and as the bruising subsides the feeling to the legs will return. Everyone is overjoyed, and Paul leaves to give Jim and Helen the good news.
Ramsay House
Jane arrives via the back door as Madge is baking cookies, Jane asks if Charlene is home. Madge explains that she is at the hospital with Scott and that they have settled their quarrels. Jane is pleased and asks if Shane is home, but Madge tells her that he left ages ago but she is welcome to wait for Charlene who should be home soon. They talk about Jane's job prospects; Madge thinks that with her brains she will be snapped up soon. Jane replies that she hopes so she has a job interview this afternoon.
Charlene arrives home and tells them that Scott is going to be Ok, Madge then rushes off to do some shopping, while the girls take the cookies into the living room. Jane comments that Madge had told her that Scott and Charlene had made up. Charlene replies that they had been so stupid if it hadn't been for the accident they would still have been fighting. She then asks Jane if she had seen Mike today. Jane says that she hasn't, but tells Jane that Shane was pretty upset when he got in last night. Jane replies that she was a bit confused when she saw him last. Charlene wants to know if she is keen on Mike again.
Jane tells her that she doesn't know; she is still confused. Charlene thinks that it might be because of the accident that she might be reading more into it than she actually feels. Jane shrugs and that she just feels right when she is with Mike, Shane is really nice and she doesn't want to hurt him. Charlene thinks that it is better than stringing him along and besides which he is a Ramsay- he will bounce back alright. Charlene says that she is going to the hospital this afternoon and why doesn't Jane come with her. Jane looks at Charlene shyly and says that maybe they could ask Mike to come along. Charlene giggles and says that it would be a good idea. Jane comments that she will have to talk to Shane.
Mangel House
Shane arrives to see Jane, but Mrs Mangel tells him that Jane went to the hospital with Charlene and Mike. She continues that they seemed very close and went off arm in arm. Shane goes off in a huff.
Erinsborough Hospital
Scott is sitting up in his hospital room, as Jane and Mike tell him that he looks great and they don't know what they were worried about. Scott asks them to sign his plaster cast and remarks on how great it is to see them back together. Jane starts to correct him when Charlene bursts into the room to hurry them up. Scott laughs and says that the nurse has Charlene very jumpy. Charlene replies that she was pretty fierce and she did say only two visitors at a time.
Mike and Jane leave and Mike invites Jane to the coffee shop for a drink. Jane thanks him but says that she has a job interview at 2 o'clock and that she hasn't got her resume together yet. As they are talking Jim, Helen and Lucy rush past asking how the patient is, interrupting the conversation. Mike asks if he could then walk Jane home, Jane agrees.
Back inside Scott's room, Charlene is telling them about the fierce nurse and the two visitors only rule. Lucy is very defiant and says that she isn't going to leave because Charlene got to see Scott last night but after a bit of bribery of a chocolate bar Charlene persuades Lucy to go with her to the canteen. Helen asks Scott if he and Charlene are back together and Scott replies that they are and it looks that Jane and Mike be as well.
Ramsay Street
Shane is loading up his Ute as Mike and Jane are walking back up Ramsay Street. Mike is saying that he is glad that they can be friends again. Jane smiles and replies that she has missed him being around. Mike puts his arm on Jane's shoulder and asks her whether they can go back to being more than just friends. Seeing this Shane runs over to them and says to Jane that he would like to see her inside and starts to pull her towards the Mangel house. Clive comes out of his house, as Shane is pulling Jane. As they reach the middle of the road, Mike tries to intervene and stop Shane he shouts that Jane shouldn't be treated like this. Shane gets angry lets go of Jane and grabs the front of Mike's shirt menacingly and tells him that one more word and he will knock his block off...
