Joan sends the kids out to play so that she and Eileen can talk. Eileen tells her that she's appalled that Des is marrying a divorcee with two children. She accuses Joan of being a gold-digger. She says that she'll do everything she can to stop the marriage.
Joan's
Des comes round to see Joan at lunchtime. She tells Des that she's met Eileen and how rude Eileen was to her. She says Eileen practically called her a scarlet woman. Des is furious and says that he's not taking any more rubbish from Eileen - he's not going to have anything more to do with her, ever. Eileen had her chance and she blew it - the wedding will go ahead without her.
Des's
Shane and Daphne are having lunch. Shane says that Max is being all mopey - he was the one who left Maria, so he can't be upset now Maria has found another bloke. Daphne says that things can't be easy for Max.
Des comes in and tells Daphne about Eileen insulting Joan. Daphne is shocked. Des blames Daphne for sticking her nose in in the first place! Shane defends Daphne saying she was only trying to help. Daphne says she just couldn't stand Des and Eileen not speaking.
Robinsons
Terry is looking at flats in the paper, but everything is very expensive. Paul suggests she rents Max's toolshed(!) Paul tells her that he doesn't want her to go very far - he'd miss her too much.
Park
Daphne has arranged to meet Eileen. She tells Eileen that she's behaved appallingly towards Joan. She tells Eileen that she'd better get her act together and accept Joan, or she'll never see Des again.
Max's bedsit
Max and Terry are just finishing work. Terry is still looking for a flat, but it's very difficult.
Shane comes in wearing his nice chauffeur's suit. Shane suggests Terry moves in with Max(!)
Terry goes a bit quiet, and when Shane has gone, Max asks her if she's still keen on Shane. Terry insists she isn't.
Des's
Daphne answers the door to Eileen. Eileen has decided that Daphne was right, and she's come to make amends with Des. Des isn't pleased to see her at all and tells her off for hurting Joan. Eileen says it was a big shock to find out about the children. But she'll do her best to accept Joan and the children from now on. Des is pleased, but says that there are a couple of things still to sort out.
First, he won't be able to keep subsidising Eileen after he's married, so he wants Eileen to start looking for a part-time job. It's not healthy for her to sit around all day - she needs to get out and meet people. He wants Eileen to stop building her whole world around Des and find her own life. Eileen agrees to start thinking about getting a job.
Secondly, he wants Eileen to apologise to Joan. Eileen protests, but Des is firm - she must apologise tonight.
They hug. Daphne hands Eileen a glass and a bottle of wine!
Joan's
Des and Eileen come around to see Joan. Eileen's apology sort of sticks in her throat, but Joan is generous and tells Eileen they can forget all about their row. She insists that Eileen and Des stay for dinner.
Des's
Terry is still flat hunting. She tells Daphne that she'll have to start looking soon too. Daphne asks if Terry is OK - she's been very subdued lately. Terry says she's depressed all the time and she can't help it. Daphne says maybe a change is what she needs.
Joan's
Eileen, Des, Joan and the kids are having dinner. The kids are being a bit forward and want to show Eileen their Atari! Des encourages Eileen to go and have a look.
EILEEN: If I must. Come, children. Take me to your Atari!
When they've gone, Joan tells Des off for being mean to his mother. He says he enjoyed it(!)
Max's bedsit
Max is watching bowls on TV looking very bored indeed! So he switches it off and starts pottering round the bedsit.
Shane comes in with some Chinese takeaway, which cheers Max right up!
Des's
Paul and Terry are washing up. Paul says they'll go flat hunting tomorrow. But Terry says there's no point - she's decided to throw her job in and move to the country.
