Previously
- Chloe exaggerates her CV in a bid to get the Lassiter's EA job, much to Aaron's disapproval
- Chloe is later awarded the job after a successful interview
- Terese asks if there are any underlined paragraphs in Piper's latest exchange book - she says not
- Sheila tells Gary that she knows she's got memory problems, and wants to keep it a secret
- After being fobbed off by Terese, Gary is annoyed to find her and Paul in the penthouse together
- Gary tells Terese she has to promise to be there for him 100% like he is for her, or else he's 'gone'
Lassiter's Complex
Gary storms out of the hotel, followed by Terese. She apologises for making him feel insecure, and begs for him to stop.
TERESE: I'm obsessed - I understand that. But I'm terrified of losing the job that I love. I love you more. Why didn't you tell me about Sheila sooner?
GARY: She didn't want anyone to find out until we got her results back today. Whatever's wrong with her, it can't be good. I don't want to let her down.
TERESE: Gary...
GARY: Look at how I was when you got cancer. I panicked and I was useless. I can't rope off my emotions the way... Paul can.
TERESE: Forget about Paul Robinson! Hey - this is about our family.
Gary further tells Terese that they haven't told Xanthe about Sheila's tests yet. He says he's hoping for the best, and he and Terese share a reconciliatory hug.
The Waterhole
Leo and Mishti are telling Elly about the miscarriage. She expresses her condolences, and explains that she went through it herself not long after she moved to Erinsborough - so is there if Mishti ever 'needs a shoulder'.
Chloe comes in, and Elly immediately tells her they're having a private conversation! Mishti says it's fine, and Chloe says she just wanted to thank Leo for giving her a chance with the job - she can't wait to start. Elly then introduces Chloe to Leo and Mishti, explaining that Mishti lives at No 32. Mishti says she'll have to come over some time as they have 'a great spa'.
CHLOE: Bangin'. I am so there!
Chloe leaves them to it, and Elly lets rip.
ELLY: Bangin'? Why did you hire her?! (...) Chloe Brennan is a nut job. The first time we met, she played tug-of-war with my handbag and broke it.
When Elly explains the circumstances, Leo and Mishti can see how it was likely a misunderstanding, but Elly keeps droning on. Leo defends Chloe, saying she was good at interview.
ELLY: She has no social boundaries. She's absolute trouble - can't you tell? If you're going to hire someone like her, good luck with that.
Leo and Mishti look at each other awkwardly.
No 24
Chloe and Mark are in the living area.
CHLOE: The neighbours in this street are so nice, it's almost creepy. But, like, in a good way. Is this apple juice fresh?
But Mark is more concerned about the mandarin peel and dirty sock he's found on the sofa, and tells Chloe in no uncertain terms where these items 'live'.
CHLOE: Yes, sir (!)
MARK: Look, I'm not apologising for being a neat freak, OK? And even if you think that's hilarious, this is my house - you're just going to have to adjust your habits.
Chloe agrees, and adds that she'll be pitching in financially soon too, now she has her job at Lassiter's. Mark seems pleased, if a little suspicious.
Ramsay Street
Elly and Piper whine to each other about how much they hate Chloe - and in Piper's case, how she beat her to the EA job. Elly replies it's because Chloe has everyone 'wrapped around her little pinkie'. Piper adds that she never came to town when Tyler was in trouble.
PIPER: Instead, she's just been drifting around the world, only caring about herself. And the only time she's bothered to turn up here is because she was broke and needed somewhere to crash! I'm not a fan.
ELLY: No, me neither.
Terese comes out of the house, and tells Piper she needs to cancel their planned shopping expedition today, as Gary needs her. Terese promises she'll explain everything later; Piper is understanding. Terese leaves again.
Elly gives Piper a load of books that she found while clearing out Ben's room, telling her to put anything she doesn't want in the book exchange. Elly leaves, and Piper looks at the books excitedly.
No 26
Xanthe is practising her 'persuasive oral' on Ben (a project for school, via video link, lest this be misconstrued) - it's about vaccination, and Ben is duly impressed with her work. Ben suggests that Xanthe should come and visit him in Oakey again, promising not to be busy again this time. But Xanthe has Study™ to do, and can't afford to get distracted.
XANTHE: And you are *very* distracting.
Sheila overhears, and suggests Ben come over to the house to help her study tonight. But Xanthe reminds her that Ben's in Oakey and that Sheila forgot this last week too; Sheila makes out that she was only joking, and snaps at Xanthe about the lunch dishes that she left outside.
Xanthe goes to finish her chat with Ben in the garden, while Sheila welcomes Terese in. Sheila's annoyed, however, when Terese reveals that Gary has told her about her memory issues.

SHEILA: He had no right telling anybody.
TERESE: Yeah, but I'm family. And you can't expect Gary to carry this around on his own.
Terese says she can help, reminding Sheila that her ex-husband Brad's father Doug had Alzheimer's. Sheila insists this is her own problem to deal with, but Terese reminds her of when she tried to deal with her cancer alone - and says Sheila shouldn't be ashamed of getting help.
TERESE: You need to open up and talk to the people that care about you.
Lassiter's
Leo asks receptionist Brandon if he could follow up on Chloe's references, presumably wanting to check her credentials after Elly's scathing assessment of her character.
BRANDON: Any reason?
LEO: Because I asked you to.
No 24
Chloe is picking out a costume for her first day at work. Aaron isn't keen on the shoes she's chosen.
CHLOE: Okay, are you sure you're still gay? Because these shoes are *crisp*.
Aaron gets a call - from Brandon!
BRANDON: Hello - is this Aaron Peabody?
AARON: Peabody?!
Brandon explains he's checking references for Chloe Brennan, and Aaron realises she's put him down as a fake reference on her CV. At Chloe's silent insistence, Aaron goes along with her scheme and sings Chloe's praises to Brandon, a little sarcastically.
AARON: What I really admire about her is her incredible honesty (!)
After the call has finished...
AARON: You are no longer my sister.
CHLOE: Is it because of what I said about your gayness?
AARON: Chloe - how many fake references did you give?
CHLOE: Not many! (...) No-one checks references these days, as long as your social media's clean.
But Aaron begs to differ, pointing out that Lassiter's is checking - and that when Brandon gets to the next name on the list, Chloe's job prospects will be history.
CHLOE: Who was the guy who called?
AARON: Brandon Danker, I think he said. Sorry, hold on, where are you going?
But Chloe has already dashed out of the house!
Lassiter's
Chloe arrives at reception, and quickly homes in on Brandon at the desk, turning on the charm and flirtation as they get talking about international travel. She suggests they go for drinks once he's finished work, then admits that she's the new EA. Brandon has already discovered that her references are fake, but hasn't told Leo yet - and Chloe works her magic.
CHLOE: It's mostly true. So if you could tell Leo it's legit, we could still have that drink!
BRANDON: ...
CHLOE: And a swim? Bathers optional.
She tells Brandon to text her, and sashays out!
No 26
Sheila has called a family meeting with Gary, Xanthe and Terese. Encouraged by Terese, Sheila admits to Xanthe that she's had tests for her memory problems and that they're going to get the results this afternoon. Xanthe is upset that Sheila didn't tell her sooner; she replies that she didn't want to affect her study.
SHEILA: I was too proud to admit what was happening, and too afraid of what it might mean (...) If we get the news and it's really bad this afternoon, I don't want you all to give up your lives to look after me.
GARY: Mum...
SHEILA: No, this is final. If it all gets too much, just chuck me in a home. But drive me there first; I don't want to get the bus.
XANTHE: Gran, don't be silly.
TERESE: Okay, enough of this talk. Look, Sheila - if it is Alzheimer's, they have medications nowadays that slow it down.
SHEILA: Yeah, well I suppose we'll all find out this afternoon, won't we?
Lassiter's Complex
Elly gives Leo some flowers to pass on to Mishti, saying she hopes they cheer her up. Leo says Mishti is doing okay, considering.
ELLY: I know this thing is common in early pregnancy, but it still has an emotional impact.
LEO: Yeah, it does.

Brandon appears and tells Leo that all Chloe's references were 'super-positive'! Elly simmers silently, and Brandon goes to sort out Chloe's security pass.
ELLY: Just because her references check out, doesn't mean she's trustworthy.
LEO: I guess the proof will be when she starts the job, right?
ELLY: I would keep an eye on her.
Elly leaves and passes the book exchange, where she sees Piper flicking through books looking for evidence of the mystery underliner. Piper finds a book with passages underlined, and celebrates.
No 24
Chloe comes in, and is disappointed to find Mark at home.
CHLOE: I'm kind of planning something. Don't you, like, work?
Mark explains there were cancellations at the garage, so he's going to do some odd-jobs here instead - and is impervious to Chloe's hints that he should go elsewhere! Mark notes that Chloe has bought cocktail ingredients - she claims she's 'still in job celebration mode'.
Mishti turns up, and invites Chloe over to hang out in the spa tomorrow, adding that it can't be today as she has a 12-hour shift at work - but says she was hoping she could go and feed Clancy later, as the rest of the family is away in Colac.
Chloe, who has just got a text from Brandon asking for her address, seizes the opportunity and says she's happy to feed the dog. Mishti hands Chloe the keys and leaves - and Chloe replies to Brandon telling him to come to No 32!
Erinsborough Hospital
Clive has gathered Sheila, Gary, Xanthe and Terese in his office for the results of Sheila's memory tests. He says her symptoms aren't consistent with Alzheimer's, dementia or a brain tumour. In fact, it seems the memory issues have been caused by a statin-based heart pill she started taking a month ago; it's a known side-effect in a tiny minority of patients.
CLIVE: I can't promise anything, but I think a change in medication should do the trick.
Everyone celebrates.
Harold's Café
Elly finds Piper reading a book that she got from the exchange.
PIPER: I'm having this amazing connection with the person leaving the books.
She explains about the mystery underliner.
PIPER: When I was doing my Year 12 exams, I picked up a copy of The Girls, and parts of it were underlined - these parts that really spoke to me. And it's the same as in this book. And I just - I feel like we're kindred spirits!
ELLY: Okay, you know that a lot of people underline things when they're studying - so I wouldn't really see it as some cosmic sign.
PIPER: Yes, but out of all the books I could've picked up, I picked up this one.
ELLY: Because it's a popular book.
Erinsborough Hospital
The rest of the family wait while Sheila talks to Clive.
SHEILA: You're relieved too. I can tell.
CLIVE: I'm relieved that the amazing and irritating person you are won't have to go through that.
SHEILA: If it hadn't been good news, I know we wouldn't have lasted. Oh, it's alright - I don't blame you at all.
CLIVE: I am not about to abandon you, okay?
They kiss. Watching from across the room, Terese remarks to Gary that if Sheila had had Alzheimer's it would have put a lot of pressure on her relationship with Clive.
TERESE: It's made me realise how much we really are a family, Gary.
GARY: Thanks for being here.
TERESE: I want to be here all the time. I don't want to miss the important things that you're going through.
GARY: What are you saying?
TERESE: How would you feel about moving into Number 22 now? You were always going to after we got married. But now that we're back together and we're solid, let's just go ahead with it.
GARY: ... You know, I think I'm going to say no for now.
TERESE: Oh.
GARY: It's tempting, believe me. But the timing's not right. I think I should wait until Mum's completely out of the woods, and... then we can see.
TERESE: ... Yeah. No, that makes perfect sense.
But they both look worried, as does Xanthe who has been listening.
No 32
Chloe and Brandon are enjoying each another's company by the spa, and drinking cocktails.
CHLOE: Here's to you doing the right thing.
BRANDON: The wrong thing.
CHLOE: For the right reasons!
BRANDON: Oh, for the wrong reasons, actually.
They strip off to their bathers and prepare to hit the spa. Brandon notices Clancy nearby.
BRANDON: You've got a dog? (...) What's its name?
CHLOE: ... Umm... Elly! Here, come on, Elly - good girl!
The dog ignores Chloe, and she claims it's because she's been away travelling! They head into the spa together...
No 26
In the kitchen, Gary casually asks Xanthe if she's noticed Paul and Terese spending a lot of time together while she's been working at the hotel; evidently, there is more than Sheila's health behind his decision not to move in with her.
XANTHE: Are you still jealous of Paul and Terese?
GARY: I didn't say that! What?
XANTHE: Dad, I thought you already put all of that stuff behind you.
GARY: ... The idea of Paul and Terese is driving me bananas. I just can't stop thinking about it.
XANTHE: Dad!
GARY: Yeah, I know. Terese said it would never happen again, and I believe her.
Gary says he meant what he said about not moving in with Terese because of Sheila. His issue with Paul is 'my problem, and I need to get over it - and I will'. But he doesn't look too confident in his conviction.
Lassiter's Complex
Elly finds Piper lurking on a bench by the book exchange.
PIPER: This is a nice place to read.
ELLY: Not buying it.
So Piper admits she's curious about the identity of the mystery underliner, and is hoping they'll turn up to pick up another book.
ELLY: Is there a chance that you're looking for a connection that's not there?
PIPER: No. Why would I make this up?
ELLY: I'm not saying you're making it up. But after losing Tyler and moving home, there's a big hole. Do you think you're trying to fill that?
PIPER: Maybe... No, because I was intrigued by the underlining in The Girls, and I read that way before Tyler left.
ELLY: Okay. So you're just gonna sit here all day and wait?
PIPER: I'm going to read.
Elly leaves her to it, and Piper continues to stalk the exchange...
No 32
Brandon and Chloe are pashing in the spa, cocktails in hand.
BRANDON: So, is this only about bribery?
CHLOE: What do you think?
BRANDON: Part of me doesn't want to know.
CHLOE: I'm grateful for what you did, but - I would've swiped right anyway.
BRANDON: Good. Me too.
They continue to pash, until interrupted by an unexpected arrival.
UNEXPECTED ARRIVAL: Ahem.
CHLOE and BRANDON: ...
We pan up and see that the arrival is *very* unexpected - it's none other than former No 32 resident and '80s Ramsay Street royalty, Jane Harris!
JANE: And *what* is going on here?
