The Flametree Retreat
Amy arrives in tears and apologises for being a terrible friend to Steph; she's a horrible person. Steph calms her down and they talk, although Amy can't tell Steph what she revealed to Mark. Amy asks why she keeps wrecking her friendships. Steph says they are getting there, and she and Elly will too.
Piper adds another returned letter from Tyler to the pile and sits down to read her book from the book exchange. Terese asks if she's found any more underlined paragraphs but Piper says no. She catches Terese checking her phone.
PIPER: Mum, we just said no technology during read time.
TERESE: I was reading; this is just a reward!
PIPER: Alright then, what's your book about? [Terese looks at the back cover] Without reading the blurb!
TERESE: Fine, um... it's about a guy who builds a massive fortune and then does whatever it takes to win back the love of his life.
PIPER: Sounds to me a bit like Paul!
Terese says Paul hasn't returned any of her messages but Piper reminds her she's having weekly catch- ups with Leo.
Mark tells Aaron and Chloe he was shocked by the whole Elly going off the pill thing. Chloe asks who hasn't thought about doing stuff like that, and Aaron and Mark look disturbed! Aaron asks Mark if he gave Elly a chance to explain but he says he took off. He leaves for a run and Chloe tells Aaron the Lassiters EA position has been officially listed. Terese isn't hiring this time, so she has a clean slate. She goes to "update" her CV on her computer.
AARON: You cannot change nanny to executive assistant!
CHLOE: And yet it's amazing how I can! Would you look at that?
Elly is sending Mark a message when Steph arrives and tells her Amy is in tears at the retreat. Elly isn't ready to talk to her. Paul asks Leo how things went with Mishti. Leo says talking helped but they both want to keep things as normal as possible; he wants to keep the hotel running. Paul says the first thing is to hire him an assistant.
Gary finishes practising his wind power speech on Sheila and Gary and asks Sheila if she wants to do hers but she isn't keen.
GARY: You'll be alright, Mum. And all those tests we did - the medical ones - they'll prove it.
SHEILA: All they will prove is that I should be put down!
Gary suggests she talk to someone but Sheila doesn't want anyone else knowing.
Terese gets an email; Leo is interviewing for the EA position without even consulting her. Piper considers applying for it and Terese likes the idea. Gary arrives and asks for a word with Terese about Sheila before dinner. Terese wants to cancel dinner so she can help Piper with her application and Gary looks disappointed.
Gary returns and tells Sheila it's just the two of them for dinner. Sheila doesn't feel like eating anything and doesn't want to work on her speech. She says if this is Alzheimer's she needs to break up with Clive. She asks what happens when she suddenly can't remember who Gary and Xanthe are.
GARY: You're getting way ahead of yourself. We don't know any of this until we get those results.
SHEILA: I don't need any results, Gary, to know that I'm not right up here. It runs in the family. And if it is Alzheimer's, it's downhill from here on in.
Waterhole (next day)
Gary sends Terese a message asking if they can meet to talk about Sheila. Shane apologises if he was out of line for pushing Sheila last night. Gary tells him the memory issues might be serious. Shane asks Gary how he's doing and Gary thinks he will just have to deal with it; he will have to pull back on work. Shane says it's good he's got Terese. Gary checks his phone for a response.
Paul and Leo are looking at CVs but Leo isn't keen on any of them. They're left with Chloe and Piper (of course)! Paul thinks Terese has put Piper up to it but doesn't want her accusing him of bias so they'll see what Piper's got.
Paul and Leo are interviewing Piper.
PIPER: I'd say that I'm pretty cool in a crisis.
PAUL: You tried to flee the country the day before your boyfriend's murder trial! You call that cool?
Leo suggests some role play and the scene cuts back and forth between Piper and Chloe. They are clearly much more impressed with Chloe.
Elly arrives and tries to convince Mark she was never going to go through with some baby entrapment plan. Mark tells her he should never have kissed her; he's not ready. Elly says she deserves to be more than his rebound girl. They agree to be just good friends.
Chloe and Piper are waiting in reception and Chloe is looking at Mrs. Mangel's portrait; it's creepy how her eyes follow you around the room! Leo appears and calls Chloe. Aaron comes in and discusses Tyler with Piper. Piper says she can't sleep in his room or sit in his chair any more; she feels like he's further away every day. Leo and Chloe return and break the news that Chloe got the job. Terese appears and isn't happy.
Terese storms in and tells Paul he's so predictable for hiring the eye candy. Paul says it was Leo's decision. Terese points out that Chloe will be her assistant when she gets back from leave.
TERESE: The executive assistant of a major hotel is not an entry level position.
PAUL: Well you seemed to think that Piper was suitable and she's 18. You can't get any more entry level than that! And besides, Chloe Brennan has worked for some of the blue bloods of the richest countries in the world.
TERESE: Yeah, as a nanny!
PAUL: Oh, you haven't seen her CV.
TERESE: Oh, actually I have seen her CV; I've got it on my file.
PAUL: I'm bored now... bored, bored, bored! You are on leave and the decision has been made... end of story!
Piper lets herself into the empty house and sits down in Tyler's chair to read her book.
Amy asks Elly if they can talk. She is so sorry and doesn't want to lose her as a friend. Elly asks how she can ever tell her anything again. Amy asks for a second chance. Elly doesn't know, but doesn't want to lose their friendship.
Shane checks Gary is OK. He finally gets a message from Terese, apologising for missing his text because she was tied up with Paul. Gary looks disappointed.
Terese marches back in with Chloe's real CV but Paul isn't interested. Terese tells him if he keeps hiring staff like Chloe she's not going to have a hotel to come back to. Gary emerges from the lift and says he thought he'd find Terese here.
GARY: The office where you normally do "business" isn't cosy enough, huh?
Terese and Gary get into the lift and Terese asks Gary what on earth he's doing. Gary says he might be losing his mum to Alzheimer's and the one time he needs her support she's off butting heads with Paul. Terese tells him to slow down and defends her actions. Gary reminds her she's on leave.
GARY: Bickering about the hotel is like flirting for you and Paul. It's already gotten out of hand once.
TERESE: That won't happen again.
GARY: When I see it flaring up like that... I'm here 100% for you Terese but you have to promise to be the same for me; that I'm your priority, not Paul. If you can't... I'm gone.
- Aaron asks Chloe what she was thinking
- Elly tells Leo and Mishti that Chloe is a nut job
- Elly and Piper agree Chloe has everyone wrapped around her little finger and they're not fans
- Brandon asks Chloe what Clancy's name is and she says Elly!
- Xanthe asks why the family meeting; it's something bad, isn't it?
