Erinsborough Hospital
Karl tells Mark about Finn's allegations against Elly. Karl admits she was in the room just before his respiration dropped, but says he can't picture Elly doing something so extreme. Karl and Mark head off to find Elly.
The Waterhole
Elly is with Susan at a table, and is a bit distracted. She tells Susan not to talk to her about Finn. Karl and Mark arrive.
MARK: I'm afraid I'm here in a professional capacity. Earlier this evening, an attempt was made on Finn Kelly's life. I'm gonna have to ask you to come down to the station for questioning.
Elly appears shocked.
ELLY: Me?
MARK: He's accusing you of attempted murder.
SUSAN: What?!
MARK: That you tried to smother him with a pillow.
ELLY: Don't tell me you believe him? The guy's delusional!
MARK: If it is a fabrication, we shouldn't have any issue clearing it up.
Elly and Mark head off to the station. Once she's gone, Karl tells Susan that some of the nurses saw Elly in the corridor before and after the attack. Susan admits that Elly has been distracted since they met up, but says that could mean anything. Karl tells Susan not to get too upset about it; her health is the priority.
Erinsborough Police Station
Mark is grilling Elly in Interview Room 2. Elly insists Finn was fine when she left his hospital room. She admits an alarm was going off as she left the hospital, but didn't know it was coming from Finn's room. All she did was yell at Finn in defence of Xanthe, she insists.
MARK: We know that his oxygen dropped, and we know that his pillow was found on the floor next to his bed. Now, that all points to someone smothering him, and then losing their nerve.
ELLY: That, or he did it himself.
MARK: The guy was paralysed.
ELLY: Mark, he probably set it up somehow. You know what he's like. He's capable of anything. Isn't there CCTV or something?
MARK: Not in the room, there isn't. We're collecting the footage from the corridors as we speak. Did anyone see you afterwards that can attest to your state of mind?
ELLY: When I left Finn, I went and met Susan.
Mark suspends the interview, and tells Elly he thinks she needs a lawyer.
MARK: I don't believe that you did this. But there's not enough corroborating evidence to support your story. If Finn sticks to his guns, he's gonna make this really difficult for you.

The next morning, Toadie's come round to collect some sheets, but Sonya, unwilling to let him see the mess she's made of the walls, says it's not a good time - she'll drop them over to him later. He tries to engage in small talk but Sonya is clearly eager to get him off the doorstep, so he leaves. Sonya returns to the living room, and Steph.
STEPH: Is it really that much of a state secret? You only painted a wall!
SONYA: Yeah - whilst I was trying not to drink. I'm just not ready for him to see that I'm struggling. Not yet.
Sonya asks if they can fix it before Toadie comes back.
Lassiter's Terrace
Susan is having morning tea when Elly turns up, wanting to explain herself, as Susan was asleep when she got home last night. Susan asks Elly why she went to the hospital. Elly claims she was upset about Xanthe, and went to tell Finn what she thought of him. Susan says she shouldn't have done it, but insists she doesn't believe Finn's claims that Elly tried to smother him.
Elly says she doesn't want Susan's MS to get worse because of all this stress; Susan says Finn's to blame for that. Elly apologises nonetheless and says it will all be fine.
ELLY: Finn might be smart, but he's not as smart as he thinks he is.
Harold's Café
David is at a table with Tom, complimenting him on his tailor-made suit. Tom promises to reward him for that later.
TOM: Or perhaps I will reward you now.
They're just about to kiss, but Shane interrupts them and starts making small-talk with Tom. It soon becomes clear that Shane has heard Tom's in the hotel business, and wants to flog him his solar-powered lawnmower. Tom says it's not his area, but Shane persists until Mishti, who is cleaning tables nearby, hints that he should shut up.
Once Shane has left them alone, Tom proposes that he take David to a fancy restaurant, Bistro Amarante. Despite it not being Lanzini's, David seems impressed - although Tom warns him it has a waiting list of about a month.
DAVID: I'm good with a month.
Tom looks pleased.
Erinsborough Hospital
Mark is visiting Finn.
MARK: Elly disputes your story.
FINN: I bet she does.
MARK: Actually, she suspects you manipulated the whole thing yourself so that you could blame her for it.
FINN: Poor Elly. She really does need help.
MARK: So you deny it?
FINN: How else could it have happened? I can't move. You're pretty good friends with Elly. Perhaps that's clouding your judgement.
MARK: Not at all.
Mark tells Finn that the police doctor will have to review the output of Finn's monitors, to analyse his heart rate and oxygen saturation levels at the time of the alleged assault.
FINN: There's nothing alleged about it! It was attempted murder!
MARK: Do you consent to the review?
FINN: Sure.
Mark records Finn's consent on his phone, since he can't sign the forms.
FINN: Record this while you're at it. Investigate Elly the way you would anyone accused of a serious crime, or I'll have you removed from the case.
MARK: Do you realise you're still under criminal investigation yourself?
FINN: I know my rights. Treat this allegation seriously, or I'll have you replaced. Or don't you think I'm capable of it?

Mark is updating Gary and Sheila on the latest developments with Finn.
SHEILA: Smothered him my foot!
Mark opines that he thinks Finn is trying to frame Elly so he can gain sympathy when his own crimes go to court. Xanthe comes in, and overhears some of this. Mark asks if all of them were at home last night when the incident happened. Sheila insists they were, and that Amy and Jimmy were round for dinner, indicating they have alibis.
MARK: Xanthe, do you know anything that could help?
SHEILA: Elly did come for a visit yesterday, love, didn't she? So did she have anything to say about Finn?
Xanthe looks worried.
Lassiter's Complex
David brags to Amy about his forthcoming visit to Bistro Amarante with Tom, which is now booked in for three weeks' time. David says it's a sign that Tom sees them lasting that long.
DAVID: And there's this medical conference in Auckland in a couple of months. I want to book flights. Do you reckon I should invite him?
AMY: I dunno. You don't want to freak him out.
DAVID: Do you think he'd freak?
AMY: Maybe. You're basically telling him that you're thinking long-term relationship.
DAVID: Isn't that what he's doing with the whole restaurant thing?
AMY: An overseas trip is a bigger deal than a restaurant date. And if Tom's not on the same page as you, it could get awkward.
DAVID: I really think he might be into me.
AMY: Okay. But it's a risky move. That's all I'm saying.
But David is still grinning at the thought of it.

Steph and Sonya are staring at their latest paint splodges on the walls, deciding what action to take next.
STEPH: We could definitely have our own design show.
SONYA: What, Grand Disasters?
Sonya says she'll have to buy the proper paint. Steph offers, knowing Sonya's strapped for cash. But Sonya says it's her mess - she'll deal with it. She doesn't want Toadie to think she's trashing the house.
Harold's Café
Aaron is having a meeting with Shane and Mishti about the lawnmower. He explains that Charles, the investor they've secured a meeting with, will meet them at the lake. Tom wanders over, and seems more interested in the mower now he knows Aaron's involved.
TOM: This guy can do anything he puts his mind to.
SHANE: Too right - he's a solid gold legend!
AARON: Come off it!
TOM: Take a compliment! You're a force, Aaron Brennan.
Mishti watches carefully - it's clear to her that Tom is flirting. But he declines to join them at the table, saying he'll see them around.

Elly calls round to check in on Xanthe, who seems to be in a very strange mood.
XANTHE: I'm fine. And don't worry - I covered for you.
ELLY: For what?
XANTHE: For what happened to Finn. I told Mark that you left here in a really good mood, so there's no way that you could have done it.
ELLY: I didn't do it.
XANTHE (laughs): Of course not (!)
ELLY: I didn't!
XANTHE: Look, I get that you're just trying to do the right thing, and there's nothing wrong with that!
ELLY: Xanthe, I wouldn't do something like that! Mark's gonna find out exactly what happened to Finn, and then he really will get justice! But you have to believe me!
XANTHE: Elly, it's okay! Don't worry about it, okay? I've got your back!
Elly is disturbed by Xanthe's behaviour.
Erinsborough Police Station
Elly turns up to talk to Mark, now panicking because Xanthe thinks she's guilty. Mark has just come off the phone to someone who's been analysing the CCTV - it shows that nobody else entered or left Finn's room during the relevant time period.
MARK: No-one else could have done it. Finn's given a very detailed statement, and that's backed up by data from his oxygen monitor, as well as cotton fibre evidence. Now, Elly, I'm sorry, but this isn't looking good for you.
ELLY: Are you saying you don't believe me now?!
MARK: I'm saying I don't know what to think.
ELLY: He has to have faked this!
MARK: Elly, look at the state that he's in!
ELLY: Mark, please don't give up on me. Just talk to Karl, anything. Please. I'll come with you.
But Mark tells her not to go anywhere near the hospital, and to leave it to him.
Harold's Café
Toadie sees Sonya with a shopping bag, and remarks on it - she's evasive, presumably because it contains tins of paint.
TOADIE: Sonya, are we okay? I mean, not okay-okay, obviously - but, you know, I kind of feel like something's happened?
SONYA: No, nothing's happened. Nothing's happened, Jarrod.
She makes a swift exit, claiming she has to go and meet Steph, clutching the shopping bag close to her as she leaves.
Meanwhile, Mishti is talking to Aaron about his 'moment' with Tom earlier. Aaron admits that Tom wanted to get back together with him before he got with David.
AARON: I was into someone else. Not that it worked out.
MISHTI: Maybe you should warn David?
AARON: Why?
MISHTI: If Tom's looking elsewhere, he might get hurt.
AARON: Yeah, or he might end up happily ever after. I stuck my nose in when David's last guy was being a jerk, and it totally backfired. Trust me - he won't want to know.
The Waterhole
David ignores Amy's advice and brings up the topic of Auckland with Tom, who says he's been wanting to go.
DAVID: You should. It's so beautiful, and there's heaps to do there. And New Zealanders are, like, the nicest people in the world!
TOM: Thanks, TripAdvisor!
DAVID: I've actually got a conference there. It's not till September. But I have to book now. And maybe... we could go together?
Tom immediately looks uncomfortable, and says David has caught him off-guard.
TOM: David, you only just started recently dating guys, and I didn't think you wanted to get serious with anyone?
DAVID: I'm just open to whatever happens. And you and I work so well.
TOM: We do! We do, and I think you're fantastic, really.
DAVID: But?
TOM: But, I - I was in love with someone before I met you. And I've only just realised that I'm not over him.
DAVID: Who?
TOM: It doesn't matter. Look, I think you're really great, but I think we should just stop - I think we should stop dating.
DAVID: We don't need to do that, do we?
TOM: I just think you're in this deeper than I am.
DAVID: We can keep it casual. It's cool!
TOM: Sorry, I'm just - I've stuffed this up big-time.
DAVID: Don't worry about it.
But David looks gutted.
Erinsborough Hospital
Mark is talking to Karl in the waiting area.
MARK: I know this might sound crazy. But is there any way Finn may have faked the medical evidence?
KARL: I don't understand what you mean.
MARK: Well, could he have held his own breath, for example?
KARL: Well, that would explain the drop in oxygen levels, but not the cotton fibres. Someone definitely held a pillow over his face.
MARK: Well, could he have done that himself?
KARL: Well, I don't see how. You've seen him - he's paralysed.
MARK: Karl - Elly is facing attempted murder here.
KARL: ... Okay, well, technically, I suppose it's possible he may have regained some functionality. Recovery is unpredictable with this sort of neurological condition.
MARK: Okay. Let's say he is faking it - how do we catch him out?
Lassiter's Lake
Aaron is road-testing Rolli the lawnmower down by the lake in preparation for the meeting with Charles the investor. He sees David sitting on the bank looking glum, and goes to sit down next to him.
DAVID: Tom dumped me.
Aaron puts a hand on David's shoulder, as David fights back tears.
Erinsborough Hospital
Mark is with Finn. He says he needs to ask some follow-up questions, but is apparently interrupted by something important on his phone. Karl saunters in casually with a coffee cup, and asks Finn if he's recovered any movement in his limbs - he claims not. As Karl moves the clipboard, he 'accidentally' knocks the coffee cup flying towards Finn.
In a reflex reaction, Finn quickly moves his arms to escape being scalded!
KARL: Did you get that?
MARK: Sure did.
Mark has been recording the scene on his phone.
MARK: Seems like you've been lying to us! Have you ever seen anything like that, Karl? Someone pretending to be paralysed?
KARL: No, I never have.
MARK: It's got to make you wonder why you'd do something like that.
Finn looks worried.
No 30
Toadie turns up to see Sonya.
TOADIE: Hey. Can I come in this time?
SONYA: I'd prefer it if you didn't.
TOADIE: Okay. Thing is, I really need an explanation. Cos I feel like I've done something wrong. And if I have done something wrong, or even if it's just about Nell, then -
SONYA: Okay, just, come in - come in. Come in. Come in.
She ushers him into the lounge and shows him her handiwork on the wall!

TOADIE: Oh!
SONYA: I wanted to drink last night, but I did that instead. I was gonna fix it before you saw it. And when I ran into you at Harold's, I was trying to hide a tin of paint.
TOADIE (laughing): Is that all?
SONYA: It looks hideous, Jarrod. I'm really - I'm just really sorry.
TOADIE: Please, this is so much better than drinking! I'm proud of you!
SONYA: ... Well, you know - I bought the paint to fix it, and just started looking at the walls, and - and thinking about, just how happy we were when we picked these colours. And just how things haven't really turned out according to plan. And I just thought that maybe it'd be good to have something different. You know, maybe a clean slate.
TOADIE: Yeah. I think that's a great idea.
SONYA: You do?
TOADIE: Yeah.
The subtext is palpable.
Erinsborough Hospital
Karl reports to Mark and Finn with the police doctor's findings. There were no abrasions on his lips which would have indicated a struggle - and no early spike in heart rate which would have indicated the same.
MARK: She doesn't think there was an assault.
KARL: That's right.
FINN: I want my lawyer to see that.
MARK: Why? What's the point? It's not gonna go well for you. Especially once Xanthe takes the stand. Now if you drop the allegation against Elly, and admit to the other charges, you'll have a much better chance at a shorter sentence.
KARL: Finn, come on - think about it. Your aneurysm burst, but you're still alive. You've got a lot of rehab ahead of you, but you'll largely recover.
MARK: You've got a second chance at life. How much of that do you want to spend behind bars?
FINN: ... Fine.
MARK: Fine, what?
FINN: I'll drop the allegations and confess - if you tell the judge I cooperated.
MARK: Okay. Let's start from when you first moved to Erinsborough...
The Waterhole
The news that Finn has confessed has reached Susan and Elly, who celebrate over drinks. Elly is sorry for her part in all the stress he's brought to Susan, but Susan's just glad they can 'put that man behind' them.
Meanwhile, Aaron approaches Tom, telling him that David is pretty gutted about being dumped. Aaron accuses Tom of leading David on, and then dropping him just like that.
TOM: What's it to you, Aaron?
AARON: I'm allowed to care, aren't I?
TOM: You like him.
AARON: Yeah, so what?
TOM: And I broke up with him because I still have feelings for you.
AARON: ... Okay, this just sucks for everyone now, doesn't it?
TOM: I guess it does. Can I have a hug?
AARON: Yeah. Of course.
They hug it out. But of course, David walks in, sees them, and looks annoyed.
