Elle confessing all to Max.
Ned & Katya telling Frazer & Pepper and Will that they can move in.
Rosetta walking up to No. 30.
Steph & Boyd discovering that Max's room is empty with no sign of him.
The General Store
Carmella finishes paying and is about to leave when she notices her sister arriving and quickly about turns to sit beside a surprised Bree. Bree starts to stare and Carmella tells her not to before Bree asks who she is anyway and Carmella replies that it's her sister.
BREE: Is she evil?
CARMELLA: Worse! She's perfect.
Susan and Zeke now enter the store and Bree suddenly decides she has to be elsewhere and ignores them as she leaves. Carmella is now forced to ‘see' her sister and neither of them is exactly happy to see the other. Rosetta asks where Carmella's habit is and is told it is a long story. Carmella wants to know what her sister is doing here and is stunned to find out not only that Rosetta has moved into Ramsay Street but that she knows Toadie. Rosetta then brings her sister up to date that her engagement is off (she got cold feet) and that she only knew Carmella was a nun because someone saw her in the convent.
Rosetta agrees and at the counter, Susan just about has to prise Zeke away because he's fixated looking at the sisters.
Boyd comes back to the hospital to tell Steph and Janae that Max hasn't been home and that perhaps an orderly has taken Max out for a walk. Janae points out that it is night time and so unlikely when Karl joins them. He says that the hospital and its grounds have been searched but that there is no sign of Max and that the police have been called.
The General Store
Carmella explains to her sister that she's taken time out of the convent to re-assess things, which impresses Rosetta given how they were raised.
CARMELLA: How can I compete with you? You were dux I was bottom, you got the public speaking award; I got expelled for swearing over the PA system.
ROSETTA: So it's my fault is it? And I though you'd finally matured.
Rosetta wants to know why Carmella wants to blame someone when all she is going to do is to repeat the same mistakes over and over again and Carmella thinks her sister is in therapy, which Rosetta doesn't seem to agree with.
CARMELLA: That's right. I'm sorry I forgot. You've got all the answers don't you? Study law, establish a practice, get married, leave home, have kids one a boy one girl. What happened?
Rosetta tries to avoid giving an answer but eventually comes up with cold feet but Carmella pushes it and eventually Rosetta decides she's had enough and after begrudgingly thanking her sister for the coffee, departs.
The police, well Steiger, have arrived and everyone is studying the CCTV footage. They spot Max and Steiger notices that he put his wallet into his jacket and thinks its good because he's got ID on him. Steph comments on seeing Max that he looks lost while Boyd demands to know from Karl how Max could just walk out of the hospital given that the room was meant to be secure. He then starts to have a go at Karl but Steiger gets them back on track by wanting to know what they thought of Max when they last saw him – what was said but Boyd snipes at him to say the police should be out looking for his dad instead of asking questions. Steiger says that due to Max's medical condition, the case has been stamped priority before wanting to know what Steph meant when she touches the screen saying again that Max looks lost.
STEPH: It's him but it's not him.
Commercial break over, Steiger starts questioning Steph about the last time she saw Max. Steph is having trouble talking so Karl and Susan interrupt to tell Steiger that they saw him yesterday afternoon, to talk about Zeke's match for the Dingoes since they wanted to avoid the subject of why Max was in hospital but add that he didn't indicate he was going to do a runner.
Steph finally finds her voice to say that she though he was upset and agitated in the morning following what happened with him smashing the things the previous night. She then adds that she went back in the afternoon with Charlie and it felt like Max was back to his old self again.
We then get flashbacks to Steph lying next to Max on the bed with Charlie lying on her legs, telling Max that Charlie slept all through the night before Max asks how Boyd is and Steph lies and tells him that Boyd is studying.
Back in non-flashback land, Steph starts to get upset when she tells Steiger that she wishes she'd told Max the truth – that Boyd is claming up and can't see his dad and she's had phonecalls from Summer's Principal wondering why Sum is being disruptive in school. Susan tries to tell her that is because she didn't want to worry Max but Steph thinks she just patronised Max instead by treating him like a child because she knew he couldn't handle the truth.
STEPH: (tearfully) I don't know why I didn't say I need you when he asked me.
Back to flashback land and Max holding Charlie asking Steph how she manages to cope on her own and kisses her for doing it so well.
STEPH: It was weird the way he just stared at me but now I know why.
STEPH: He was burning us in here (she touches her temple) so he'd always remember us. He knew he was leaving us.
Steph then starts crying and Susan goes to comfort her, trying to reassure Steph that Max wouldn't do that because family is everything to him and that he just wants her to be happy.
STEPH: Yeah but he thinks he's the one thing that's stopping the happiness that's why he left us.
Steiger tries to say that might not be true, there could be any number of reasons and Karl adds that Max will be found.
We then have another flashback to Max hugging Steph and Charlie, kissing them goodbye as they leave his room.
STEPH: He's already said goodbye.
Will is trying to get Bob to smile and Rosetta interrupts her paperwork to inform him that dogs don't smile. Rosetta starts talking to him about her sister and that she isn't exactly chuffed about being nearby to her again. Their conversation is interrupted by Pepper screaming and saying “get off” and the two of them rush into Frazer and Peppers room.
They enter to find Frazer trying to calm Pepper down but from the angle Will sees when he enters, he concludes that Frazer is doing something to her and drags him away, locking him in an arm lock. While Frazer is protesting his innocence, Rosetta enters, switches on the light and notices that Pepper is sound asleep. Will tells her to call for an ambulance and the police (he's still got Frazer in the arm lock) while Frazer still protests his innocence. Will doesn't exactly believe him but Rosetta confirms that Pepper is sound asleep before waking her up. Pepper wakes up and realises she's done it again and Will asks if she does this often and Rosetta wants to know how long it has been going on for. Frazer tries to say it's just been recently but Pepper tells them the truth – she has a sleeping disorder but doesn't know what brings it on. Rosetta remarks that she wishes they'd told her and Frazer quickly says he didn't get the chance. Will apologies for his actions before he and Rosetta leave.
FRAZER: My fiancée's a freak. Great.
PEPPER: I prefer sensitive.
The two of them start having a little domestic before Pepper decides its time to go back to sleep.
Boyd, much to Janae's dismay, wants to check Max's room to see if he has returned. They arrive at the padded cell and open the door to find it still empty. Janae tells him that they can resume searching for Max at first light but he tells her that she doesn't understand.
We then cut to more flashbacks of a group of Boyd's fellow medical students standing around listening to one of them joke about what a psych patient called Hoyland did to Dr Young. Boyd passes the group and the student sees the nametag with ‘Hoyland' on it but Boyd quickly says that it is no relation (to the patient).
Back in non-flashback land Boyd tells Janae that he wishes he'd belted the guy who was joking about his dad but instead he sold his dad out. While we then flashback to Boyd later on going into Max's room and seeing him sleeping before the bed appears empty again, as Janae tells Boyd that Max knows he loves his dad.
BOYD: The one time in his life when he really needed me.
We see Max sitting in the dark waiting for a bus. He then stands up and takes his wallet out of the jacket pocket and places the money into his shirt pocket before taking off the jacket before going back into the wallet to remove the photo of himself, Steph, Charlie and Boyd. The bus pulls up at the stop and Max stares at the photo and it falls through his hands as he moves towards the waiting bus before getting on and finding a seat. The bus pulls away as we head into the next commercial break.
No. 28 (next day)
Susan and Karl are babysitting Charlie and Susan wonders which parent the wee man looks like but Karl replies that is a bit hard when he's sleeping. Bree enters the house without knocking and is told that Zeke isn't in and Bree replies that she's knows that because Zeke and his football buddy mates are down at TGS… deciding on what tattoo they are going to get! Susan thanks her while Karl manoeuvres the buggy as they get ready to head down to the store. Before they leave though, Susan asks if she can see the recording Bree made of Zeke getting the winning points for the Dingoes (Janelle told her Bree recorded it) but Bree says that she's deleted it.
Frazer sits in the livingroom listening to a dog or horse race though the internet and despite his initial euphoria when it appears to be winning, finds that it doesn't win and removes the headphones as Will and Rosetta enter. Frazer seems *rather* taken with Rosetta and finds out that she is not going out for brekkie but off to work but before she goes, Frazer apologises for what happened last night and assures her that he respects all women.
Rosetta then leaves and the two blokes have a little discussion about women when they hear a scream and while they are just about ready to run through to see Pepper, she enters the livingroom saying that she is only joking. She then drags Frazer into the lobby to tell him to be nice to Will before she goes back into the livingroom to tell Will that he just hasn't seen the nice side of Frazer yet.
The General Store
Carmella asks Zeke what he is going to get tattoo of and asks if he is prepared for the pain because it *really* hurts. Zeke is impressed at Carmella having a tat and thinks it is cool and she tells him that is what she thought 10 years ago too but now it looks tragic. With a glint in his eye, he asks if he can see it.
CARMELLA: Wouldn't be appropriate.
Susan, Karl & Charlie approach him (they entering the store a few seconds earlier) and Zeke quickly says that he was about to…but Susan tells him to take a seat before asking if he's settled on a design yet. Zeke tells her that Alex would have let him especially since he had a tat too. “Not when he was fourteen,” replies Susan (ah confirmation of Zeke's age!). Karl asks if Garrett's brother is doing the tattoo, he is, and tells Zeke that there is a patient the same age as him in the hospital with blood poising having got a tattoo from the brother and that they are doing everything they can. Zeke looks rather worried now and wants to know who dobbed him in and isn't impressed to find out it was Bree. Susan sends him off to talk to her after warning him not to venture near the Dingoes clubhouse because she'll drag him out in front of his mates.
ZEKE: You would not.
SUSAN: I would. Ooo you know I would!
Zeke leaves and Susan has a big smirk on her face as she tells Karl that was a good parent thing he did with Zeke to put him off getting the tat, even if Karl doesn't think so because he's too busy cooing over Charlie who is just waking up and is a bit irritable.
As they walk back from getting their drinks, Pepper tells Will that they need something for the 4 of them to bond and a good old Aussie barbie is suggested. Frazer meanwhile is eyeing up Rosetta as they play pool and as she gets down to play a shot, he goes behind her to *personally* show her how to but before he can show her the best angle, she's potted the ball. He then notices that his fiancée is in the room and she tells him that they are going to have a barbie. Just as he is asking if they have to, Sgt Steiger calls out to Pepper if the bloke is giving her trouble.
PEPPER: Hi daddy.
She then runs up to him and Frazer is starting to feel rather hot under the collar at meeting Pepper's dad for the first time. Pepper explains to her dad that the guy is her fiancé and would have told him but they've just started going out with each other. Rosetta pipes up to say that she thought they'd been going out with each other for a year, so Pepper puts it down to time flying by. Steiger wants to know what happened to the policeman she was dating only 3 months ago and Frazer says it was just a fling. Their conversation is halted when Steiger's mobile goes off – it's something to do with Max as he tells the caller he's on his way, to make sure the area is secured and to get Mrs Hoyland there asap too.
STEIGER: (to his daughter) I've got to go but don't think you've heard the last of this young lady. As for you mate, I never forget a face.
The newbies are having their barbie and Pepper suggests that they are going to play a game to get to know each other better – throw their keys into the middle! The blokes look rather worried as the viewers think we've already seen this joke earlier this year from Jenny, before Pepper says she was just kidding and that they all have to reveal something truthful about themselves as a way of getting to know each other better.
PEPPER: Okay I'll go first. Fact, I'm not a swinger. I kept Frazer a secret from dad because he's an overprotective fascist who still thinks I'm ten and does police checks on all my boyfriends.
And she isn't joking either! Rosetta thinks this is a dumb idea before she eventually reveals her truth.
ROSETTA: The reason you are intimidated by me is because I act like I know everything, I don't. In fact this is the first time I've ever lived out of home.
PEPPER: God she's a freak! Oh I'm just kidding. You! (Pointing to Frazer)
FRAZER: I am not a businessman, I'm a professional gambler.
Will wants to know what he bets on and Frazer replies everything and that he's been doing it since kindergarten before telling Will he's next. He simply says that “what you see is what you get” and Frazer tells him that isn't the name of the game and to spill but Will replies that he's got nothing to share but their conversation is interrupted by Carmella wanting to talk to Rosie (Rosetta).
Over at the salad table, Carmella apologises to Rosetta which seems to stun Rosetta because her sister never normally apologises. “Well people change,” replies Carmella before adding that she doesn't know why Rosetta has moved out of the family home and Rosetta interrupts to say that she is looking for answers.
CARMELLA: Well when you find them can you let me know?
Pepper shouts out that it is time for a toast and while the rest say “cheers”, Rosetta hands Carmella a glass of champers and says “to new beginnings”.
Boyd and Steph get out of a police car and meet Steiger, who tells them that Max's wallet and jacket were found underneath the bench at the bus stop and that a photo was found lying nearby. He hands Steph the photo of the four of them that Max was looking at earlier.
In the background, Boyd asks Steiger what happens now, while Steph takes the photo in her hands and begins to visualises the scene of Max waiting for and getting on the bus (we see flashbacks of Max waiting for the bus, putting his jacket under the bench and then getting on the bus interspersed with Steph visualising what he was doing) before she completely breaks down crying and I go get a tissue.
