Steph tells Max about what young people get up to on their own.
Karl tells Susan he wants a trial separation.
Karl tells Susan he needs more time to sort this out. Susan asks him where that leaves her. She tells him she won't sit around and wait for him to decide whatever it is he needs to decide. She says she's not willing to throw their marriage away but Karl tells her he doesn't want a divorce he just needs some time.
SUSAN: For what? I haven't got a clue and no one knows what's going on inside your head. With the possible exception of Isabelle.
Karl says Susan has convinced herself that something's going on between himself and Isabelle, but Susan tells him she believes him when he says he's not sleeping with her.
KARL: Ah, well thank you very much.
SUSAN: What is between the two of you is something much more intimate then just sex. It's your thoughts, it's your feelings, it's your heart.
Karl tells her that he and Izzy have done nothing wrong. Susan tells him she needs a therapist to tell her that because she finds it hard to believe. She leaves saying she isn't prepared to give up on their marriage.
Jack is excited after taking a message for Joe, and when Joe walks in he tells him that one of the builders on his site has to go interstate. Jack is obviously expecting Joe to give him an opportunity, but Joe instead starts calling around.
Steph asks Lyn what's going on and Lyn explains, but she's quick to realize that Steph wants to talk to her about something else. Steph discusses Max wanting to buy the house from Mal and wonders whether Max wants her to be a part of it too. Lyn tells her to ask.
Boyd and Sky are “making Sky's bed” (i.e. having a pillow fight) just as Max walks in. He gives them a pep talk. He then asks them what they've got planned and when they say they're going out, Max quickly says they can go with him.
Joe is moaning about the 7 builders he's called who can't work for one day. Someone then knocks on the door and it's Susan. Joe quickly excuses himself and Ozzy leaving Susan and Lyn alone. Susan tells Lyn (very tearfully) what had happened this morning and that Karl wants a separation.
Karl is pacing around the kitchen of the coffee shop telling Izzy about his chat with Susan. He says he feels guilty. He tells her he feels like just going away and leaving everything behind.
IZZY: Not that you would.
KARL: No. Probably not.
IZZY: You wouldn't.
KARL: Nah, of course I wouldn't.
He tells her he's dreading this counseling. All he wants is some space and freedom. Izzy reaches out to him and touched his shoulder whilst Max watches from the counter.
Susan tells Lyn that Karl is not himself. She thinks and independent person will make him see sense. Lyn says that makes sense.
SUSAN: I just love him.
Lyn: Of course you do
SUSAN: I know it makes me pathetic and old fashioned but I just can't imagine my life without him.
Declan and Summer are walking and Declan suggests they see another movie. Summer says she has a better idea. They do the sliding down the mountain thingy that Sky introduced Summer to and Declan is surprised that she's come up with the idea. Summer tells him he doesn't know her that well.
Max comments on how intrusive bank documents are. Max gives her a run down on what they'll have to do and says they'll need to go down the bank. Steph then asks him about her involvement and he tells her they've decided to have a baby together, which is a much bigger decision then buying a house.
Summer and Declan are walking down the street when Summer sees a man in a black suit. She pulls Declan behind a tree and does a Sky (I.e. the man is a FBI agent) and Declan really gets into it as well. They then kiss.
Steph is babbling on about renovating the place and Max interrupts saying they haven't even bought the place yet. Izzy then walks in and adds a few of her own ideas. She then mentions the “three of them” which stumps Max and Steph. Izzy then excuses herself, realizing she had been looked over.
Sky and Boyd have picked up some munchies and they're just about to leave. They call Summer who is leaning against the counter daydreaming about her love god of course, and tell her they're going home, but before she leaves she sees Susan sitting at a table on her lonesome and tells her she's really excited about starting high school. Summer also tells her she's had a great day and Susan asks why, she whispers in Susan's ear that Declan kissed her. Susan smiles, and after Summer leaves, she seems to be a bit teary again.
Izzy walks back in and Max asks her if she's ok. She tells him it is. They talk about the house and Max tells her it'd be stupid for her to have her money tied up in a place with them. Especially when she wants to get on with her life. Izzy doesn't seem to think that'll happen anytime soon. Max tells her she doesn't have to buy into the place to go on living there, and she can stay as long as she wants. Izzy says she doesn't want the charity but she doesn't have a choice. Max tells her it's not charity, it's family.
Boyd and Sky are watching a movie and tickling one another, just as Steph and Max arrive. They are off to bed, meaning so is Boyd. After they've gone, Sky tells Boyd he'll be able to sneak out and he asks her how come she knows so much about sneaking around. Sky tells him she's been doing it forever. Boyd thinks she's bluffing.
Jack is just about to go to bed when Joe calls him into the kitchen for a word. He asks Jack to come and work for him for the one day and Jack agrees. Joe tells him there will be no favoritism.
Boyd sneaks out and Sky asks him what took so long. He tells her he had to wait for Max to start snoring. He proceeds to jump under the covers with Sky and they attempt to make out but in the end they decide to watch the rest of the movie.
Karl gives Auds a painkiller just as Susan walks in. He asks her where she's been.
SUSAN: Driving around, thinking.
KARL: That's what I thought. Hoped anyway.
She tells him she got the number for a marriage counselor and is going to call them tomorrow. Karl says he'll go because she wants him too, but he doesn't believe it'll help much. She says she can only ask that he try. He asks her what she expects to achieve if they can't work this out themselves. She tells him he is not the man she's lived with for all these years and that she thinks he's having some sort of breakdown and maybe he'll realize that too when told by a professional. Karl says it's not true and Susan goes off to bed saying she's tired.
