Lyn cleaning the house and Joe telling her to stop nesting and that they should go away to the beach for a few days
Joe and Lyn are walking along the beach, Joe is commenting on how relaxing it is. Lyn says they still haven't found a name for their little girl yet.
Joe: “I thought we liked Gracie?”
Lyn: “That was last week. What about Kelly?”
Joe: “Forget it, she'll get Smelly Kelly!”
Lyn: “Did we give up on Helen?”
Joe: “Rhymes with Melon. What about Natalie?”
Lyn: “Where did that come from, it wasn't on the list! I like it. Natalie Scully”
Joe then tries to find something that will rhyme with Natalie but Lyn tells him to stop as it will spoil it.
Joe walks out onto the deck of the beach house to find Lyn Lying on a chair finding it hard to breathe. Lyn says she'll be OK but Joe tells her if something is wrong she needs to tell him as Erinsborough is an hour away. Lyn says OK.
Joe and Lyn are driving back to town. Lyn asks Joe to pull over. She gets out of the car and leans on it struggling to breathe. Joe calls Karl from his mobile and tells him that Lyn is having trouble breathing. Karl says it sounds like the baby has turned and he should get her in the car and straight to hospital.
Jack and Steph run into the waiting room . Susan is there and she tells them that Joe and Lyn are in with Karl.
Karl is telling Lyn to take deep breaths. He says the baby has rotated and that's why she's finding it hard to breathe. Joe says it didn't happen before and Karl tells him it because the baby is bigger now. He tells them they need to do an ultrasound.
Clock changes from 7:26 to 7:27pm:
Steph, Jack and Susan are in the room with Lyn and Joe. Steph asks if they need anything. The doctor comes in and Steph, Jack & Susan leave. Dr Olenski tells them the baby is fine but is in an awkward position, she says in this case she suggests a caesarean and that she can book Lyn in for tomorrow. Lyn says no as all her other babies were natural deliveries. Karl says it highly recommended she have a c-section. Lyn says she got the baby to turn around last time and they will do it again.
Steph and Jack are in the kitchen doing the dishes. Lyn is in the lounge room doing exercises to try to turn the baby. Karl comes over to check on Lyn.
In the kitchen Jack and Steph are still doing the dishes.
Jack: “When are you going to start having kids? You and Max are practically married now you've set up house”
Jack: “So, I'm just wondering when I'm going to be Uncle Jack?”
Steph snaps at him “Well you can stop wondering, OK!”
Jack: "Calm down, I thought everything was OK with you two?”
Steph: “It is. I'm just sick of everyone around here making assumptions”
Jack: “Excuse me for breathing”
In the lounge room Lyn says she can't believe Joe is siding with Karl. She turned the baby before and she's going to do it now. Karl says he thinks a caesarean is for the best. Lyn snaps at him saying it's not about you or Joe. It's her baby, her body and it's her decision. She then goes back to her exercises.
Joe and Lyn are in the bathroom. Joe is rubbing Lyn's back.
Joe and Lyn are still in the bathroom. Lyn is doing exercises.
Lyn: “Joe, you know I'd never do anything to harm the baby don't you?”
Joe: “Of course I know that. I think if the doctor thinks it's the best thing we should trust them”
In the bathroom. Joe is half-asleep and Lyn is sitting on the floor leaning against a cupboard. She starts rubbing her stomach and talking to the baby.
“Natalie…honey…You awake? Listen Sweetheart, Mummy's got a favour to ask you. Could you turn around please. See, I know you can cause you've done it before and you know, times running out my sweet. You see, I really want you to come when you want to, not when some doctor decides. Come on my sweetheart…just for mummy!”
Hospital the next morning:
Jack, Steph and Susan are outside in the waiting room.
In the hospital room. Lyn tells Karl the baby has turned. Karl says the baby was still in the breech position an hour ago, it's highly unlikely it's turned now. Lyn assures him that it has. Joe says that if Lyn says it's moved, it's moved.
Dr Olenski begins to feel Lyn's stomach. She agrees the baby had moved around adding, “She's going to be a gymnast!”
Lyn, Joe and Jack walk in through the front door. Joe is on the phone to Valda. Lyn asks Jack for a piece of fruitcake and the paper. Jack brings it to her and Lyn tells him to get Joe off the phone, her waters just broke.
Joe finishes packing Lyn bag. Lyn has another contraction and Jack says he'll go across the road and get Steph. Joe says not yet, they've got a long time to go.
Scully bathroom 4:50pm:
Lyn is in the bath. Joe times the contractions at 7 minutes apart.
Scully's kitchen 5:00pm:
Lyn has another contraction. Steph times it a 5˝ mins part. Joe says it's time to go. Jack, Steph and Joe run out the front door leaving Lyn in the lounge. Joe opens the front door again and says “AH… Lyn… do you want to come with us?”
Dr Olenski says there is a while to go as Lyn is on 4xcm dilated and the baby hasn't even reached the birth canal.
Karl tells Lyn to rest between contractions as much as she can as it's going to be a long night. He then asks Lyn if she'd like something mild to help her relax. Joe thinks it's for him and says “Yeah, that'll be great thanks Karl” Lyn smiles.
Karl goes out into the waiting room. Susan hugs him saying that she forgot what a truly amazing man he is. Joe comes out and Susan goes to get them coffee. Karl tells Joe he's been talking to Dr Olenski who is a little concerned and she'd like to give Lyn something to speed it along. Joe looks worried but Karl assured him it is perfectly routine procedure. Joe asks Karl to tell him that they're going to be OK. Karl says that mother & baby are fine.
Hospital room. Joe is feeling Lyn's stomach saying he can feel Nat's head
Dr Olenski says she is 8am dilated. Lyn has another contraction. Joe is telling Lyn to breathe and Lyn tells him to shut up. Dr Olenski says it's not too late for an epidural. Lyn says she doesn't want it. Karl says it's OK and they've still got a while to go. Lyn agrees to have the epidural.
Susan, Steph and Jack are waiting,. Jack starts pacing up and down.
Dr Olenski says the baby is crowning. She asks for the forceps. Lyn says no but Karl says they don't have time.
Susan reassures Jack and Steph that it's OK. She says this is nothing and she was in labor with Mal for 23 hours, adding that Lyn is in very good hands.
Hospital room 12:30am:
Lyn says she can't feel anything. Karl says it's just the epidural working. Dr Olenski says the baby's in distress and the heart rate is down to 80. Joe “this better be OK Karl”
Karl tells Lyn she's doing great and the head is almost out. Dr Olenski says the cord is around the baby's neck but says it will be OK. The baby comes out and the nurse takes to baby to check on it. There's silence in the room as the baby hasn't made a sound. After a while it starts to cry and Lyn and Joe begin to cry.
Everyone congratulates Lyn and Joe. The nurse brings the baby over to Lyn and so saying “Congratulations, you have a healthy baby boy”
Karl says, "Are you sure?" and she adds that she is, she's seen a few.
Joe says he has ten little fingers and ten little toes and that's all that matters. Karl says he'll go out and tell Susan and the kids.
Lyn: “He's just beautiful”
Joe: “Do you reckon he takes after me?”
They both laugh.
Karl asks Joe if he is OK adding it's been a tough 48 hours. Joe says he wonders what the baby will look like wearing all that pink. Joe tells Karl he owes him one.
Lyn is lying in bed with the baby in the crib next to her. She looks at him then turns away.
