Hoylands'
Summer and Lisa are discussing Steph because Summer has related the argument to her. Lisa comments that she could never speak like that to her mum.
SUMMER: But she's not my mum, is she?
LISA: No, but you wanted her to be.
Summer explains that it changed when Steph moved in. She feels Boyd's now Steph's best friend and she doesn't count. It's not fair because Boyd used to hate her and Summer liked her and stuck up for her. They agree the whole thing sucks now Steph's treating Summer like this and wonder if it's 'her' coming through the front door, but it's Max, who asks where everyone is. Summer tells him that Boyd's in his bedroom and, pointedly, that Steph's at her real home. Max just looks at her.
Scullys'
Steph steps out of the spa and stands staring anxiously into the mirror, then presses the top of her left breast and looks teary as she starts to dry her hair.
Jack's looking at an e-mail from Edwina, complete with photo
Dear spunk
Just wondering
If you like surprises because if you do, I've got a hot one, ready and waiting.
Jack has just begun to reply
Dear Edwina
What can I say?
Everyone likes surprises, especially hot ones. What have you got in mind?
when Steph appears and asks him whether he's having an affair. He tries to tell her Nina knows and is Ok with it and she has just told him he's lying, when Nina arrives unexpectedly to see him. He nervously tells her he's been doing nothing much and looks guiltily at the computer as she settles with him on the lounge, saying they should do nothing together.
Hoylands'
Max comments that Steph's hair's wet when she comes in and she replies that she went to her mum's as she always has the best shampoos. Summer has told him about the fight and that Steph yelled at her, which Steph explains by saying Summer was behaving so badly she couldn't help it. He replies that it's just not like her and when Steph tries to say maybe she was tired, reminds her Summer's just a kid and she loves Steph to bits, as he does. 'So let's not fight, eh". Steph looks anxious as he walks off after kissing her hand and cheek.
Scullys'
Jack wants Nina to come to the soccer match the following day, but she wants to work on her song. He says he understands, but doesn't seem to. He does something on the computer quickly as she goes to make pikelets, humming 'Do you remember....?'
Hoylands'
Steph's still sitting quietly when Summer comes in. She tells Summer she wanted to talk to her but hadn't wanted to interrupt. She reminds her about the fun they had with the fashion show and they each apologise for what they said. Summer says she really wanted Steph to come riding and is pleased when Steph says she might be able to get there half-way through.
Kennedys'
Karl's on the phone to Libby, saying her mother will come round and he wants her to come home and sort it out, so she must at least think about it. He tells Susan that Tom has come home so Libby feels she's imposing, with Ben running around. Libby has said that she'll leave, get a part-time job and a bed-sit, put Ben in day-care. He emphasises the details, while looking for a reaction from her, but Susan carries on with what she's doing, until he says 'I told her to come home' and she replies 'No, not at the moment'.
KARL: This is where she belongs, Susan, she needs our help.SUSAN: And what about me - what I feel - or doesn't that count?
KARL: But of course it does, but we can't let it go on like this.
SUSAN: And what exactly does that mean? I've got to roll over and be the forgiving mother because you tell me to?
KARL: This is nothing to do with me.....
SUSAN: Oh it's everything to do with you..........
KARL: Why? Why? Because I love my daughter? Because she's lost and she's hurt...
SUSAN: ..... because you had an affair! You betrayed my trust and now Libby's doing exactly the same, doing whatever she wants without thinking how I might feel...
KARL: Oh no, you can't be serious..........
SUSAN: You're two of a kind, you're as bad as each other...
KARL: You mean what happened between Lib and Taj - it's my fault? Is that what you mean?..............
Susan just stares back defiantly.
Taj and Jack are watching a soccer team play. Taj is raving about a really good girl who played for them the previous year, when Edwina appears and tells Jack rather seductively she's playing in a position against him. Taj is really interested and comments on how hot she is, but Jack pretends he hasn't noticed and dismisses her as the sister of a mate.
Kennedys'
Karl says he's going to work and Susan asks him not to leave all angry. He asks how long he has to go on paying for his mistake, as he's tried to move on but she won't let him and it keeps repeating no matter what he does. If it's going to carry on, he doesn't see the point in bothering at all. He tells her people make mistakes and she yells that it's always up to her to forgive them - it's Ok for Libby, as she can run away, but she has to go to school every day and hear people sniggering and talking. He asks if it's what it's all about - what people think, but she replies that she has a very strong sense of what's right and wrong and she's tried to pass that on to Libby, but has clearly failed. He says that he hates to break it to her but she's not perfect. He goes to leave, saying it's ridiculous and it's up to her to deal with it. She follows, saying that's the point - it's always up to her. He cuts her off, saying her daughter has to come home and she has to forgive her - it's the only way this hurt is going to end. She fights back tears as the door closes behind him.
Riding School
Lisa and Summer are watching as the others ride, then take their turn. Summer watches as Lisa's mum claps and says how well she did. Lisa tells Summer to start as she's the only one left, then after some hesitation because she wanted Steph to see her, rides off.
Hospital
Steph is waiting anxiously, looking at the daffodils for a cancer appeal. Karl arrives, very apologetic, because first he left home late, went to the surgery forgetting their appointment wasn't there, then got caught up in traffic etc. She said she still wants to see him now.
Soccer pitch
Edwina is 'marking' Jack very closely, although he points out that it's a non-contact sport. After a little battle for the ball during which she trips him up, she ends up lying on top of him and stays there. He says 'get off' as Taj and some of the others look on, but she grins widely. Taj smiles approvingly at Jack when she finally gets up.
Hospital
Karl tells Steph there is some sort of lump there but it seems to be fibrotic, so it could be hormone related or a benign cyst. The risks of it being cancerous in someone of her age are unlikely, about one in two thousand, unless there's a history of breast cancer in the family, when it's increased. Steph replies that she knows of no history in her family. He tells her that this is a time in her cycle when breasts tend to be lumpy, so he wants to see her again mid-cycle, which will give a clearer picture. She should in the meantime monitor herself, check for any changes, tenderness etc. He assures her that it's very unlikely that this serious and there's no need to worry prematurely. She gives a faint smile.....
Riding school
Max is driving along and sees a rider less horse and Summer on the ground, being picked up by Lisa's mum. Lisa tells him the pony bolted and Summer fell off. He thanks Mrs Jeffries for being there and takes Summer with him. He asks where Steph is and Summer replies that she didn't come, then gets more upset as she says Steph promised she'd come at least half-way through, but she didn't and she just doesn't care. Max tells her it's not true and he's sure there must be a good explanation but can't tell her why Steph's not there, just hugs Summer instead.
Kennedys'
Karl arrives home to find Susan working at the table and asks why she didn't go to town. He's also come home unexpectedly to do some paper work. She makes a big fuss about clearing space for him, then tells him she's sorry - she's projected all this rubbish from the past about Sarah onto him and Libby and driven Libby away. She's been stupid, selfish and self-indulgent and is completely ashamed of herself. He puts his arms around her as she says again and again that she's so sorry.
Coffee Shop
Edwina comes up as Jack orders smoothies for himself and Taj and says 'make that three'. Jack tells her she has to stop obsessing over him and he has a girlfriend. She asks why he answered her e-mails. Meanwhile, Nina has arrived and sat down by Taj. Taj tells her that's Edwina with Jack and so Nina goes over to them. Jack introduces them and Nina says she's heard a lot about her and John. Edwina grins as jack makes clear the story is that she's 'John's sister.
Hoylands'
Max is comforting Summer, who's still upset and refusing the lollies he's offering. Steph arrives home and comments that she's in the bad books. Max doesn't accept that her appointment with Karl couldn't have been postponed as he thinks it wasn't urgent. They argue. He asks what's wrong as she's been so grumpy recently and looks on, puzzled, as she storms out yelling that everything's Ok and telling him to get off her case. We see her leaning against the door, sobbing..........
