Recap
- Toadie telling Stu to move out
- Lyn having a baby boy
Lyn's Hospital Room
The Scullys and Karl and Susan are in Lyn's room cooing over the baby. Susan has a hold of him. Steph realises that they haven't called Flick and Michelle yet, but Lyn says Steph can do it. Karl says they should give Lyn some space and everyone leaves, bar Joe. Lyn says Joe should go out and 'wet' the baby's head because she'll be sleeping anyway. He says he loves her and goes. Lyn looks vacant.
The Coffee Shop
The clock reads 7:40. Joe and Jack walk in and tell Harold the good news. They tell him they're going to Lou's to celebrate. Karl walks in, and Joe tells Harold it's a boy and jokingly says that Karl stuffed up. Jack says it might be a bit early for the pub, but Harold says he saw Lou's car there. Harold decides to come and lets his staff know. Karl's coming too, he organized a locum. "Ah, good. Another bloke that can sit around all morning telling people that their sons are really daughters," snarks Joe.
The Pub
Karl, Joe and his workmates are choking back cigars, with Jack looking on and Harold bringing drinks over. Karl takes a champagne saying it's for a special occasion, but after much chiding from the guys he grabs an OJ instead. Joe makes a toast to the baby. Harold and the others rise up to toast, and ask what the name is. Joe says he only thought about girls names (like Carlotta - which is the name of a famous drag queen here!) They toast, "to the boy!"
Hospital Corridor
Steph's staring at the Daffodil Day flower when Susan comes up with a sandwich for her. Steph says she can't imagine going through what Lyn did. Susan says she will, and laughs saying she swore she wouldn't be one of those people who try and convert girls to motherhood. Steph says she's not sure if she wants to be a mum, and Susan says she'd be a great mother. Steph looks sad as Susan lists all the positive attributes of being a mum.
Hospital Locker Room
Toadie is clearing out Dee's locker. He's trying not to cry as he does it, taking out a photo of the two of them (there's something written on the back I couldn't quite make out, but it could say 'The day he told me he loved me'). He gets her ID tag, and her uniform. He starts to fold the uniform carefully, but then gets fed up and just starts piling everything in the box.
The Pub
The blokes are talking about names. Harold suggests Joe think of someone he admires, and Jack suggests a movie star's name. Harold thinks of the name, "Ignatius". Stu walks in and congratulates Joe. Stu and Karl stand at the bar, and Stu tells him that he's on his way to Dee's court hearing. He just wants Toadie to hear confirmation that the car was roadworthy, and that no one was to blame. Karl wishes him luck.
Hospital Corridor
Toadie walks out with Dee's stuff, and Steph spots him. She assumes that he's there because of the baby, but Toadie says he was clearing out Dee's locker. Steph says she's sorry. Toadie asks what's happening, and Steph tells him that Lyn had the baby. He seems genuinely pleased, and asks when he gets to meet him. Steph looks happy and says now if he wants to. They go in quietly because Lyn's asleep. Toadie looks awed, and picks him up for a hold. "Your parents are very lucky people." They both look like they are going to cry, but in a semi-happy way.
Hospital Corridor
Libby and Ben have arrived and are talking to Steph. Steph tells her that Susan is there, and Libby looks a bit startled. Susan walks up with a coffee for Steph, and is surprised to see Libby. Steph takes Ben for a walk. Libby and Susan look hesitant for a bit until Susan starts apologising and envelopes Libby into a hug. Libby's so relieved, and tells Susan that she has no idea how much she missed her.
Lyn's Hospital Room
Steph, Susan, Libby and Ben are visiting Lyn and the baby. The conversation is about breastfeeding. All the women say how they felt feeding their babies, and Steph says she's the odd one out. They joke about how men realise that breasts aren't just for "decoration", and they are actually for a very important function. Steph looks upset but tries to hide it.
Outside the Court
Stu tries to make small talk with Toadie about the new baby. Toadie is being short with him. He says he was at the hospital and saw the baby but didn't stick around for long. "Once I cleared Dee's things out of her locker I thought it was time to come along and find out what killed her." He gives Stu a look, and enters the court house. Stu rubs his head in his hands.
The Pub
Joe gets all excited and says he's got a name. "Oscar Scully!" Everyone's a bit iffy about it, but Joe says he wants to name him after his woodwork teacher. That teacher believed in him when no one else did, and he thought of him because Harold said to think about someone he admired. They toast to Oscar, and Karl asks what the shortened version will be since the Scullys tend to do that. 'Osk', 'Osky', and 'Ossie' get mentioned which starts up a rendition of "Ossie, Ossie, Ossie! Oi, Oi, Oi!"
Court
The judge says that many factors were taken into account such as the road surface, the condition of the car and simple human error. No single factor was found to be the cause, no laws were broken, the car was roadworthy, the speed was adhered to, and the driver was not under the influence. Mrs Rebecchi's presumed death will be recorded as a case of tragic misadventure. Toadie turns around to glare at Stu, and leaves when the court is in recess.
Outside the Court
Toadie runs up to Sgt. Douglas and demands the case be re-opened so what or who ever is brought to justice. Sgt. Douglas says that nothing else can be done, and the judge wouldn't have given that verdict if she didn't find the police report sufficient enough. Toadie gets annoyed and says he thinks there's more that could be done. "If you're not going to do it, I will."
The Pub
Harold, Jack, Karl and Joe get up to leave. Joe tells them to pop by, Lyn should be out of hospital soon because she doesn't like the food. Karl then ribs Joe about not giving Lyn and Oscar his gourmet food then. Jack and Joe leave to go and see Lyn. Harold follows, saying he better go and make an appearace at the Coffee Shop. Stu walks in upset. Karl asks how the court hearing went. Stu tells him that the coroner found Dee's death an accident, but Toadie's still not talking to him. Karl says that Toadie hasn't been talking to anyone much.
The Kennedys
Karl comes home, and Susan teases him about being at the pub. "Any excuse for a drink!" Karl gets annoyed at people's fixation with his drinking, and tells her that he didn't drink - and it was hard not to. Susan says she's proud of him. Ben's head pops around the doorway, and Karl looks surprised. "Ben?!" Libby walks out with him, and her and Susan chatter away like nothing happened. Susan gets all coy, "What?!", but Karl just smiles and hugs her.
Lyn's Hospital Room
Lyn has just tried to feed the baby, but he won't take it. Sheena comes in to see how she is. She asks Lyn if she wants her to take the him. Lyn looks at her baby and seems in two minds about it, but finally says she's a bit tired and to take him. The rest of the Scullys arrive, and Sheena gives the baby to Steph and goes. Joe lets slip about naming the baby Oscar, and Steph looks appalled. "You poor little fella!" Jack asks Lyn what she thinks. Lyn looks distracted and says it's fine. She stares at the baby looking almost emotionless.
Number 30
Stu walks in and Toadie is angry to see him. He asks how he got in, and Stu says the keys were in the door. He thought Toadie might want some company. Toadie says not right now, but he will be in contact. "It shouldn't be too long, it's all pretty straightforward." Stu looks confused and asks what is. "My case. I'm taking a civil action against you for your part in Dee's death." Stu is stunned.
