Bernie chats up Dee
Michelle and Bianca find the key for the school tuck shop
Joe refuses Karl's offer of medical help
Back Yard - Number 26
Michelle and Bianca are disappointed to discover they have pilfered carob and coconut bars from the tuck shop, which they don't like. But Michelle thinks some boys would take them. Lyn interrupts them and Michelle hides the box. Once Lyn has gone they reason that they didn't steal the bars - after all they were out of date. Michelle still wonders if anyone saw them. Bianca asks if she remembered to lock the door and Michelle is sure she did.
Number 30
Bernie and Joel make plans for the duration Bernie is here. Dee looks preoccupied. Joel has to remind Bernie again of his award presentation the next day - Bernie wouldn't miss it for the world. Dee promises to get double prints of the photos she'll take. Bernie wants to buy them dinner at the pub, although Joel doesn't want him to keep spending so much money on them.
Number 28
Karl and Susan are eating chips in the living room. Karl talks about Joe looking at him with contempt when he offered help with his hand. Susan thinks that Joe was just putting on a performance for Maurie. The phone rings - it's Libby and Karl talks to her. Once he hangs up he tells Susan that Libby's having a good time - at least someone is. Susan reminds Karl of Harold's problems and Karl realises that he's not as bad off as he could be.
Lou's Place
Toadie serves Dee. She tells him that Bernie hasn't hit on her since the first incident. She hasn't told Joel about it. Bernie appears and tells them that he has to go - he's meeting some mates in town. He tells Dee that he's looking forward to the ceremony and leaves. Dee says to Toadie that he's a bit slick, but Toadie doesn't think he's that bad.
The Coffee Shop
Michelle thinks they should hit Toadie, Lance and Joel first with the bars. They should make a lot of money.
Susan comes in and Joe follows her. He tries to make small talk about how much fun Libby and Steph are having. She tells him that she's not in the mood after his childish behaviour the day before. The hand of friendship won't be offered again. Once she's left Joe mutters to himself (and Michelle) that Karl's a quack.
Number 30
Toadie tries one of Michelle and Bianca's bars. They give him a special deal: ten for $10. When he asks where they're from, Bianca says that her dad works in the factory. He buys ten. Bernie comes in with a home brewing kit - Toadie and Joel are overjoyed. Michelle and Bianca sell him two bars for a dollar each which makes Toadie unhappy as he thought he had got a unique deal. Dee comes in and Bernie tells them all that he has to tie up some loose ends but he'll catch up with them at the presentation.
UK Gold Commercial Break
Number 26
Michelle and Bianca are chuffed with how much money they've made. Lyn comes in, seeing they have a bag and wonders what's going on. Michelle changes the subject to the fight Susan and Joe had in the Coffee Shop. She and Bianca are off the hook as Lyn asks about it. She looks worried.
Number 28
Karl hangs up after a supportive phone call. There's a knock at the door - it's Lyn. She tells him how sorry she is about everything, the argument and everything. She starts to cry as Karl becomes confused - he knows nothing about the argument. Lyn realises she's put her foot in it.
Eden Hills University
Dee and Joel stand about outside - time's moving on and there's no sign of Bernie. Joel's award is up first and Dee thinks he should maybe wait inside. Joel tells her to sit in and tells her to come and get him when it's time - he'll wait outside for him.
Number 28
Karl and Susan are having a 'discussion' about the Coffee Shop incident with Joe - she rages that she couldn't pretend everything was fine with him. Karl tells her to calm down and Susan says he's right - it's not worth it. She did feel much better for it though. Karl tells her that he can fight his own battles but he's not angry with her. He worries that some of the mud will stick - he thinks he's starting to lose his nerve. She tells him he's been through a terrible time and the Ryan's don't have a case. They might try but they're in for a hell of a fight!
Number 30
Toadie is having trouble with the home brewing kit. The door opens and a noticeably less than exuberant Joel and Dee walk in. Toadie has a squizz at his award and medal. Bernie didn't show up - Joel waited until the last minute - but he's sure he just got lost or something. He decides to go for a swim, saying he's okay. Once he's gone Dee tells Toadie that Joel was so disappointed - he almost missed his own award and all the way through he kept looking for Bernie. Toadie thinks that Joel was right but Dee doesn't seem so sure. However, even though he's generous with buying things for people, he isn't so good with fitting Joel into his life and she still thinks he hit on her.
Number 26
Michelle calculates that they'll make $80 each from the bars. Michelle's going to buy a new dress for the end of term party. Bianca thinks she should ask for the bracelet back from the widower in the scary house, but Michelle won't email him.
Number 28
Susan tells Karl that Harold is on his way home. She wants to go and see the new Cate Blanchett film with him, but Karl's not so sure. Just then the phone interrupts them and Karl has to go and do a house call, even though the situation doesn't really warrant it. He tells her he's sorry about the movie but she's not.
Number 26
Lyn and Joe are making dinner. Joe is raging about the incident in the Coffee Shop - those Kennedys are right nutters! Lyn says if he'd let Karl look at his hand they wouldn't have had the trouble, but Joe had to be loyal to Maurie.
Through in the living room Michelle has been sent a music file from the widower and Joe keeps yelling at her to turn it down. Lyn tells Joe not to take his bad mood out on her. Lyn tells him she's given up on going back to school - she doesn't have the time and she's happy the way she is.
Number 30
Joel is still thinking Bernie is coming back and Dee tells him not to do this - he has to get him off his pedestal and see him for what he really is. Joel asks what she means just as the door bursts open. It's Bernie, a little worse for wear, clutching a giant food hamper. He tells them that he might have a lot of explaining to do but they can't shoot a man with this much champagne and caviar! Joel smiles at him while Dee is not amused.
