Harold telling Karl that Madge has had a turn.
Karl recommends that Madge has tests - a CAT scan.
Sarah wonders what would have happened at Karl's that evening had they both had more wine.
Karl returning home with Sarah to find Susan back.
The Hospital
Ben remembers the crash, and remembers Geoff confessing that he's Ben's father. More flashbacks of the crash. Ben chokes on his mouthguard, and spits it out, whilst Geoff calls loudly for a nurse, and asks Ben if he knows who he is.
Two nurses come in, and one starts to test his eyes, asks him what his name is, and what year he was born. Ben knows his name and year of birth, and the nurse continues to check him.
Number 28
Susan is regaling Karl and Sarah with stories from her new school, but Karl suggests that Sarah leaves. Susan thinks that's rude, especially while Ben's in hospital, and demands that Sarah stays for dinner at the very least. The phone rings, and it's the hospital for Karl. Anne and Billy come out from Bill's bedroom whilst Billy chats inanely with his mother, Karl receives the news that Ben has finally woken up.
He tells Anne and Sarah that he's awake, and that they're trying to contact Ruth. Karl leaves to go to the hospital, and says he'll pick up Ruth on the way, as well as taking Anne. Susan tells Sarah to stay whilst the others are gone.
The Hospital
Caitlin tells Anne that Geoff came and got her, and Ruth and Caitlin go into Ben's room whilst the others wait outside. Ben tells his mother that he feels weird, and she tells him about the car race; she then goes to see the doctor, get the latest. The doctor admits that Ben will take a while to remember things and who everyone is. He reiterates that Ben will need lots of positive encouragement. Anne, Caitlin and Ruth chat to Ben, but the nurse insists that they leave - give Ben lots of rest.
Number 28
Susan is telling Sarah about her job and her life in Wangaratta. She loves it, except for being away from Karl and the kids. Sarah tells Susan that she's enjoying her nursing training, and that she's going back to working part time for Karl - Harold will be job-sharing with her. Susan is surprised to hear that Karl is hiring Harry, and can't quite believe that he even entertain the idea! Susan says she can't wait to find out what else has been going on.
The Hospital
Paul and Harry are fussing over Madge, and have brought her some food in, but she's not hungry. She promises to keep it for after the tests tomorrow. She admits that the doctors have told her nothing, yet, until they get the test results. Harry doesn't want her in the hospital alone, but Madge just doesn't want him there - he makes her feel tense! She doesn't want a drama, and Harry agrees that there's no need to go on about it.
Number 26
Ruth is concerned that Ben wasn't up and chatting and remembering her, but Phil reminds that he's luck to be alive, and that they need to wait for him to get better. He also wants to know if she remembers what happened just before Ben's car went over - what he said to her? Ruth does remember, and she thought she had given him an answer, but Phil knows she didn't.
Luckily, Ruth doesn't need any more time - yes, she'll marry him! She doesn't need any time to think about it, and she has no doubts, especially after how he's stuck by her recently. Phil tells her he loves her.
Number 32
Ruth is packing stuff into a bag for Ben, and suggests that Anne goes and gets Caitlin so they can go to the hospital together. Anne isn't keen that Cait travels with them, but agrees to put her personal life aside for Ben. Caitlin arrives, and they all leave together.
Number 28
Susan is making Karl breakfast in bed, but he emerges from the bedroom all ready for work - he wants to go and see Madge before she has her tests. Susan reminds him to plan time for a very early night with her, instead! She'd also like to know what's going on with him and Sarah. Karl is all flustered, then realises it's about the job-share. They laugh about Harold being half-offered a job by Karl, then Karl quickly makes an exit.
On his way out, Susan tells him he's forgotten something, so he runs back, kisses her, and tells her he loves her. As he goes to leave again, she calls to him to say that it wasn't a kiss he forgot, it was his keys. He grabs them and leaves. Susan is left standing alone, rather confused.
The Hospital
Anne, Caitlin and Ruth are with Ben, showing him his CDs that they've brought. Ben is finding it hard to talk and to form words. He knows Ruth and Anne, but he can't remember Caitlin at all. Caitlin is distraught, and leaves the room, Anne following her. Ruth reassures Ben that it's all okay, and outside the room Anne comforts Caitlin, and reminds her that Ben will get better.
Caitlin says that she wants to forget everything that's happened with Billy, and Anne is happy to be friends, as long as Caitlin takes responsibility for her behaviour. Caitlin tells Anne that she's realised that family means a lot to her, now, and Anne is her family. Cait also apologises for what happened with Billy - she'd really like to be Anne's friend. Anne graciously accepts her apology.
Elsewhere in the hospital, Karl is prepping Madge for her CAT Scan. The CAT Scan man comes in, and Madge is taken into the machine for the test. Karl and CAT Scan man leave the room whilst the scanner does its job. Flashes of Madge's brain appear on the screen in front of the doctors.
Number 32
Phil comes round to see Ruth, and she gives him an update on Ben, and tells Phil that he'll be having physio soon, too. Phil is all smiley and happy, and reaches into his pocket to take out a ring for Ruth. He tells her that if she doesn't like it, they can take it back and choose something together. Ruth loves it, and he puts it on her finger - it's a perfect fit! She throws her arms up and kisses him, just as Billy and Anne walk in. Ruth shows them her new ring, and Anne is over the moon for her mum, whilst Billy checks that Phil isn't expecting a hug from him!
The Hospital
Geoff comes in to see Ben, bringing him some magazines. Ben says that he feels pretty good, and he's happy for Geoff to stay. Geoff brings a chair over, and introduces himself, saying that he's not a doctor - he and Ben hadn't met before. He refers to himself as a volunteer, and Ben remembers that Geoff was there when he woke up.
Geoff wants to know if Ben remembers what Geoff was saying when he woke up, but he doesn't.
Number 32
Anne and Billy are running down the drive, and run almost literally into Susan who's returning home with some shopping. Anne tells Susie that Phil just proposed to her mum, and Susan is absolutely thrilled, slapping her son on the chest, and hugging Anne tightly. She will go and see Ruth - but later, much later! After Phil has left!
Anne and Billy continue to take Bonny for a walk, whilst Susan walks back home, past Sarah at number 30, who's playing with Bob. Susan tells Sarah that she shouldn't let Karl put her in a position where she feels uncomfortable; Sarah is horrified, and thinks that Susan knows about the kiss - then realises that Susan is talking about the part-time working issue.
Sarah reassures Susan that she'd like to work part-time, and she's happy about it.
Number 24
Harry is on the phone, and tells Paul that Madge is now coming home. Paul doesn't want to go to the hospital to collect her as it reminds him of his mum being ill. But Harry persuades him to go with him - after all, Madge will have the results by the time they get there.
The Hospital
Madge is packing, and tells Karl that she has called Harold to collect her. Karl has Madge's results - and they're not good.
KARL: I'm sorry, Madge, but you won't be going home today. What you have is a cerebral aneurysm. It requires surgery quite urgently.
