The drug addicts tell Mark he isn't qualified to lead their drug recovery group.
Susan is looking forward to a family dinner: Karl says Mal and Danni should invite them over to their place.
Danni has made Mal a surrpise breakfast for his birthday - sitting on a box in the middle of their unfurnished living room!. Danni has got him a present - it's a pair of cool surf shorts. Mal suddenly remembers that Karl and Susan are coming around tonight and panics, but Danni tells him that she's got everything under control.
Mark tells Marlene that the kids were right - he has no history with drug addicts. Marlene encourages him and tells him he did a wonderful job with Lucy - he suggests that he takes her with him to a meeting. Maybe Lucy could get involved in the counselling too?
Danni comes in and asks Marlene if borrow some stuff from her.
The Kennedys welcome Mal and wish him a happy birthday. Mal sees his present in the middle of the room and thinks it's a surf-board. But he opens it to find an ironing board inside. He hides his disappointment well, but Susan looks upset.
Marlene and Danni are going through a list of stuff - mostly crockery and cups. Marlene says she's bound to have some stuff at the Bric-a-brac shop. They start talking about recipes - Marlene says she'll cook a meal for her and the Kennedys will never have to know!
Mark comes in to see Lucy to ask her help with the drug and alcohol abuse group. He asks her to come to the meeting and talk about her own experiences. Lucy thinks it's a lot to ask - she'd be talking to complete strangers after all.
MARK: Will you?
LUCY: Why not.
MARK: Thanks, Lucy. This means a lot to me.
Only six of the drop-out kids have turned up. Mark thanks them for coming back and introduces Lucy to them.
LUCY: Makes me sound like some sort of celebrity guest. Well, I'm not. He's not a priest. He's straight. Born that way.
She sits down and address the group.
LUCY: I don't know how you guys are doing, but at the moment I'm clean. I don't know how long I'll stay clean. But over the past few years it's been a couple of weeks max. This time, eight weeks so far.
KID: What were you on?
LUCY: Started with appetite surpressants, would you believe. And booze. Speed. Uppers and downers. But always the booze. It's the one that really scares me. I mean, I would love a drink right now.
KIDS: Me too!
LUCY: Yeah, it'd be beautiful wouldn't it, that first few minutes when it hits. But you can't expect straights to understand that. All they see is the damage. The agony. The throwing up. Finding yourself down in the garbage. The hustling. The lying and ripping-off your friends. Sweating on another few dollars so that you can make another score. Disgusted. Scared brainless. I was so far down that I couldn't take much more and there only seemed to be one way out. But then someone showed up in my life and made me see that I have got choices.
She turns and looks at Mark.
The cooking is in full swing and it all looks great. Danni hugs Marlene and thanks her for helping out. Marlene tells her she'll tell her how she did it all in case Danni is asked questions. They arrange for Danni to pop out and pick up the food during the evening.
Lou come in and tells Cheryl that he's got good news - Helen has been talking to Rosemary and she might be interested in buying back the arcade from Cheryl. Cheryl frantically starts getting the paperwork together!
CHERYL: This is the break I've been waiting for!
Lucy is telling Mark that once she got into the group she quite enjoyed it. Mark tells her that she did really, really well. Lucy tells Mark that he saved her life - maybe he can save theirs too now.
Lucy asks Mark why they're not rostered on together anymore. He evades and says it wasn't deliberate.
Mal and Danni have got a makeshift table together made out of a door. It's all laid out nicely and Marlene has brought the hors d'oeuvres on. There's a knock at the door, so Marlene slips out through the back.
The Kennedys (Karl, Susan, Libby and Billy) all arrive and are impressed at the trouble that Danni and Mal have gone to. Susan laughs quietly to herself and tells Karl that his face is a picture.
SUSAN: You were so sure that they were going to fall flat on their faces! Two words, Karl. Sucked In!
Mark asks Lucy to come over after work and have dinner with him. She agrees. Mark awkwardly tells her that he enjoys her company.
Karl tells Danni that her entree was absolutely delicious and Susan asks Danni where she got her dressing from. Danni manages to blag her way through an explanation. Karl tells Mal rather reluctantly that Mal and Danni have done very well. Susan goes off to help Danni in the kitchen, but Mal grabs her and says she must stay in the living room as she's a guest!
Danni has sprinted around to pick up the Coq au Vin from Marlene. She dashes off with it.
BRETT: This is like a bad British sitcom!
Susan keeps trying to go to the kitchen, but just then Danni arrives back and serves up the Coq au Vin. Unfortunately as she does, the door-table collapses and Danni starts to cry.
Mark has got a bottle of non-alcoholic wine for them to enjoy. They drink a toast to their success at the drug group and their "future teamwork". Lucy kisses Mark and then they start to kiss passionately. But then she breaks away and says she didn't mean for it to happen. Mark puts his arms around her and continues to kiss her.
