Recap
- Brenda admits she doesn't have a permit to employ Toby but she thinks it's time Dorothy was taken down a peg or two.
Number 24
Brenda is on the phone, impersonating Dorothy, and placing a personal ad for tomorrow's paper: "Mature, broad minded woman seeks man to share life and home. Only those with staying power need apply."
Number 28
Doug takes a phone call from Cyril, looking for Faye as they had an argument and she moved out. Pam worries that Faye might come and stay with them.
BRAD: I hope she does. I'll take her surfing with me and scare off all the sharks!
Pam recalls the spring cleaning they had to do last time Faye visited. Brad thinks they deserve worse after wrecking his wetsuit.
Number 26
The next morning, Dorothy tells Helen that Toby is still grumpy with her for cancelling his coffee shop job.
HELEN: You're not Brenda's favourite person at the moment either.
DOROTHY: I consider that a compliment. The woman is stupid beyond belief!
Lucy takes a phone call from someone looking for a Claire. Lucy tells them they have the wrong number. She wants to go and lie down but Helen won't let her and Dorothy suggests she make productive use of the holidays by taking a course.
Number 28
Doug is upset over Gaby and Glen's breakup; when will he learn to keep his nose out of his kids' affairs? Brad says probably never. Doug goes outside and Pam pretends to strangle Brad, telling him this is really getting to Doug. She tells him to do something about getting a job today but Brad says as of today Brad's Boards is back in business. Doug rushes back in the house saying the snails are annihilating his veggie garden!
Number 30
Dorothy brings Toby his favourite pancakes but Toby doesn't want them. Dorothy tells him he's punishing himself, not her. Toby says she's right and tucks in! Pam arrives, looking for snail bait, but Dorothy doesn't believe in chemical deterrents, especially not with an animal around. Pam offers to pay Toby five cents a snail to remove them but Dorothy says she believes 10 cents is the going rate! Pam leaves and Toby thanks Dorothy, and for the pancakes, and gives her a hug.
Coffee Shop
Lucy is sitting at the counter, reading a highlighted personal ad in the newspaper. She says Mrs Burke would never stoop to this; it's obvious that Brenda did it. Brenda tries to deny it but eventually concedes and says it serves Dorothy right.
LUCY: What happens if some maniac pays her a visit?
BRENDA: Then he will have met his match won't he?!
Lucy agrees that the old prude could do with some lightening up and promises not to say anything.
Number 30
Dorothy comes home and Toby tells her that a few blokes have phoned, asking weird questions about her like her age, weight and how broad- minded she is. Dorothy suspects a hiccup at the local telephone exchange; Lucy had a wrong number this morning.
Number 28
Doug comes home and finds Brad watching TV. He jokingly says he wouldn't mind working for Brad's Boards. Brad says he is working, thinking about a new design! He is still upset with Doug over the wetsuit. Toby arrives with the snails. He's caught 46 and thinks there may be more under the woodwork.
DOUG: You'd better check them, Brad; this is Joe Mangel's son, remember!
Doug pays Toby and asks about Joe and Melanie who are in Portugal.
Number 26
Helen suggests Lucy arrange a holiday with her friends and Lucy is surprised that Helen would let her. Toby comes in and has been collecting snails for Helen as well. Helen pays him for the 30 he has found while Lucy answers the phone; it's the man looking for Claire again.
Number 28
Toby returns and Doug pays him for the same 30 snails Helen has just paid him for. He goes to use the bathroom and Helen arrives, wondering if Pam would like a swim in the "Ramsay" pool with her but Pam isn't home. Doug is holding the bucket and Helen says Toby has spent the last half an hour in her garden collecting those. Toby comes out of the bathroom and Doug asks him whose garden he collected these snails from. Toby admits they were from Mrs. Daniels' garden and Doug asks for his money back.
Shops
Brad bumps into Lucy walking along looking at the brochures she's just picked up from the travel agent. Brad wishes he had the money to go on holiday. Lucy says he shouldn't waste his money on goodies then, pointing to the bag he's holding, but Brad says it's revenge for Doug. He has to go and pick up some surfing magazines so Lucy continues on her way. She senses she is being followed and we see a pair of feet walking.
Number 24 balcony
Helen and Brenda are sitting outside when Lucy runs up the steps and says she thinks someone was following her. Helen says her mind is probably playing tricks on her because she's watched too many horror movies. Brenda looks across the street and says there is a man... but he's going into Dorothy's; probably an unexpected visitor! Helen asks what makes her say that.
Number 30
Dorothy opens the door to Trev.
DOROTHY: What can I do for you?
TREV: Anything you like!
Trev walks in and looks around. He says Dorothy has some weird stuff but he can live with that. He tells Dorothy she can call him "the stayer" and asks if they start off in separate bedrooms. He mentions the ad and Dorothy asks if he has it with him. He hands the ad to Dorothy.
Number 28
Pam is about to open the front door but Brad tells her it's not safe. Pam asks what he's up to.
Ramsay Street
Toby is placing snails on the road when a taxi drops off a woman in a bright orange dress with a large suitcase. She asks Toby what he's up to and Toby says he's racing snails. The woman says the taxi could have crushed them but Toby says at least it would be quick as they're going to die anyway. The woman thinks he's going to torture them and calls him a hooligan and a rude little boy! She takes the bucket and tips the snails back in the garden!
Number 28
Pam and Brad are waiting inside the front door. They hear footsteps and then a squelching noise and a scream. They open the door, laughing, but of course it's not Doug. It's the woman in orange... Doug's sister Faye!
