As Summers and Regan walk to the courtroom Mike once again tries to swing for them but Paul holds him back. Regan approaches Gail and tells her in a threatening way that a good sort like her wouldn't want to say too much in court if she wants to stay pretty. He reaches out and touches her face leading Paul to push his arm away. He warns him not threaten his wife and Regan walks away.
Sally is praising Helens artwork and wishes she had a talent. Helen tells her she had a letter from Frank today explaining how happy and peaceful he is now he's back in the countryside. Henry tells Des that it doesn't matter whether Summers and Regan get a few months or a few years, it will give them time to think about what they've done. He assures Des they will be sorry one day. Scott tells Helen about Jeff and Helen suspects it's just a case of sour grapes. However Scott tells her Jeff had seen proof in the diary but just couldn't acquire evidence. Mike and Sally are in silence. Des arrives home and asks what the verdict was. Mike tells him how their lawyer made out Regan and Summers were totally innocent and fabricated a story. Des is shocked that the magistrates believed them over and Gail and is crushed when Mike reveals the driver Summers lost his license for 12 months and a fine of $500 whilst Regan got off scott free. Sally tells Des he has to think of the future now – he's all Jamie has got.
Paul and Gails
Paul assures Gail that she did her best but she is feeling guilty. She can't see how Summers and Regan got off so freely whilst they are left to deal with the pain. Gail wonders how she will face Des after this but Paul promises her Des will be understanding and grateful that she tried.
The mood is still solemn but Sally is pleased when Des takes Jamie for a bath, Mike leaves the house and tells Sally he is going to ram some justice down the throats of Regan and Summers.
