Number 30
Toadie stops working on the sunroom when the music changes and he rushes to switch it off. Eventually he manages to turn the external speaker off… but instead the sound kicks in from the laptop itself until the lid is firmly slammed closed!
Erinsborough High School
Byron double checks that his mum is sure about breaking up with Mike. The initial reply is "no" but she then goes on to admit that "I've known it in my heart for a while" but hasn't been "able to say the words out loud."
JANE: Not to myself or to any of you.
When asked, Jane isn't sure how Mike is going to take the news.
Harolds café
When she runs into Kiri, Nicolette forces her to discuss her admission about Sasha. Kiri though would rather not go over past ground, which includes hearing "the full story" that Nicolette wants to tell.
Number 30
Cara and Remi are talking about the letters of supper the neighbours have written about JJ as they enter the house. "I was promised a rave!" Remi points out when she realises that the house is silent. Toadie is being somewhat evasive over the lack of music, putting it down to being affected by the fumes from the varnish and that he might have to head home.
Before he heads home though, Remi passes on some mail that has arrived - he's stopped the redirection but obviously forgot to tell some folks!
Ramsay Street
Toadie goes through the mail the VM's passed on and one of the items is a postcard from Alaska!
Suddenly we hear Karl shout out if Toadie has forgotten when he lives given he'd stopped in the middle of the street and was looking back towards #30. When Toadie doesn't reply back, Karl asks if he is okay.
Number 28 (garden)
Turns out the postcard was from Dee, they've tentatively been keeping up with each other. We then find out why Toadie got freaked out about the song - it was one played on the day Sonya died. Karl gets why that would make Toadie "feel emotional." What with the song and the postcard, Toadie is unsure of what is happening other than he "feels weird" and doesn't understand why.
Number 32 (garden)
The VM's are bonding with Kiri when Nicolette comes looking for her brother, but he's not home yet, so she decides to wait inside for him.
CARA: So, you two are awkward!
KIRI: Yup, told you!
"Did something else happen?" Remi asks and Kiri explains about Nicolette's confession over how they broke up. Kiri also adds that Nicolette wants to tell her the whole story but she doesn't think it's worth it partially because she wants "to put it in the too hard basket."
Number 32
Meanwhile inside, Nicolette is ranting off to Haz and Krista about how Kiri is "so chummy chummy" with the VM's. Haz suggests that perhaps they "just hit it off" which goes down like a lead balloon with Nicolette as/the VM's "have never just hit it off."
HAZ: Are you automatically meant to be friends because you're all queer?
NICOLETTE: Uh, yes!
HAZ: Okay.
NICOLETTE: No… but we are queer neighbours and that is meant to be exciting! But no, Kiri's been back for 5 minutes and they're already exchanging KD Lang stories!
Byron arrives home just as she asks, "why do you think Cara and Remi have never wanted to hang out with me?" and his reply is that it is due to her "terrible social skills!" She is like huh and at that point Haz and Krista suddenly decide they need to be somewhere else pronto! "I don't have terrible social skills," Nicolette is trying to tell her brother and that she is "a great conversationalist" too!
BYRON: You're a drama queen!
NICOLETTE: I challenge people, I push people's boundaries!
Eventually she remembers that he mentioned something about their mum and he tells her about Jane wanting to "break up with Mike" and that the pair of them "need to be there" for her. Nicolette seems genuinely shocked at hearing this "huge" news.
NICOLETTE: Has she really thought this through?
BYRON: She says she has and I can't say it's the wrong decision.
NICOLETTE: Well they both deserve more than a long distance relationship.
Byron agrees with his sister and asks that she can put her "stuff aside and be there" for their mum? "Of course I will stupid!" she quickly replies back with but then wonders, if they are splitting up "what does this mean for Sam?"
Number 28 (garden)
Karl is curious to know if Toadie will tell Terese about the postcard and given they are "in a good place right now," Toadie is unsure of what to tell her. Toadie admits it was strange being at #30 and hearing the song "brought back memories of a very painful day" and thought it natural that he'd think of Sonya. As for the postcard, he's putting that down to odd timing and isn't reading anything into it as in her last letter, Dee told him about moving on with her life and having a new partner too.
KARL: But you're still spooked?
TOADIE: If any one of these things happened in isolation, I wouldn't think twice about it, so it's just a strange coincidence that all of these things happened all at once. That's what's thrown me.
KARL: Maybe you should still tell Terese.
Number 24
Jane tells her kids that she has considered Sam and it will be up to her if she wants to join up with her dad in Europe. Just at that, Sam comes out of her room to pick up her bag before heading into work, unawares of what they were discussing.
Vineyard
Leo is trying to broker to broker a ‘peace deal' among his partners beginning with chatting to Kiri. He's offering her an out to their deal, his Plan B, by taking on a venture capitalist as a silent partner instead. She looks thrown that her (and Nicolette/Byron's) money might not be wanted but throws the question back to Leo - it is his "baby" and thus he needs to make the call.
Number 22
Toadie has shown Terese the postcard and her initial comment is that "Dee seems happy." She also wants him to reply to her last letter "for Hugo's sake" just in case the lad wants to meet her or Andrea in the future. Terese is impressed to hear that he was a "handyman" in helping to repair the sunroom at #30 and will be back to help once Cara gets the necessary materials in.
Number 24/Europe
Jane is facetiming Mike and hears about his latest trip to Sicily and that more trips are planned there before he sees what happens next. Turns out Mike wanted to talk to her as much as she wanted to talk to him!
MIKE: Obviously, I've been away for a long time. It's coming up to a year now and, you know, a lot's happened for me and I'm sure it has for you too. And I think maybe…
JANE: (interrupting) I want to break up.
Virtually at the same time Jane interrupted to say that, he was suggesting the same thing!
Vineyard
Offscreen, Leo has had the same chat with Nicolette and Byron as he did with Kiri. Like her, they seem bemused with his ‘out' option especially given their first time working together was okay. Krista tries to spin it that Kiri is uncomfortable working with her ex, which Nicolette interprets as Kiri putting the boot in. Thankfully it is quickly clarified that isn't the case and Kiri is leaving any decision on the partnership agreement to Leo - although Nicolette isn't amused to hear that they "had a meeting behind our back" and "can't believe Kiri is shafting me" either. Leo reassures her that Kiri "didn't say anything like that" but feels "for the sake of the business" he has to "consider the silent investor option."
Number 24/Europe
Turns out that absence hasn't make the heart grow fonder, instead Mike has developed feelings for someone else - his boss Angela. He apologises for having to discuss things remotely but Jane admits that she is "relieved" he is "feeling the same way" given she was "dreading" having this conversation with him. Mike does at least reassure her that nothing has happened with Angela as he wanted to talk to her first and she readily gives her "blessing" to him as from what he's said, Angela "sounds like a lovely person."
In return, and "in the spirit of transparency," Jane tells him about the kiss from Vic before he left but makes it clear that it was "entirely one- sided!" While she is relieved "that he's gone" it did "get me thinking about my life" and what she wants "from the future."
MIKE: I guess we've both been doing some soul searching, eh?!
Jane comes clean about losing the engagement ring and he jokes if she threw it into "a freezing cold English lake?!" That would be a "no" but she laments "the fact that it's gone kind of felt like the universe was trying to tell me something."
Naturally, they are both thinking about Sam, who Jane thinks of as being her second daughter (and likewise earlier, Byron/Nicolette think of her as their sister) and thus "without question" is happy for her to continue living at #24 "if that's what she wants." Mike plans to have a chat with her and "see what she wants to do."
MIKE: You know, finding you again, and the time we did have together, I wouldn't trade it for the world.
JANE: No, neither would I. It was very special.
MIKE: I wanted it to work.
JANE: You know, the thing that I keep telling myself is we did work. We had two amazing years together and you taught me to believe in love again.
MIKE: So maybe we did come back into each other's lives again for a reason.
JANE: I know we did. And whatever happens next, wherever the road takes us, you will always be in my heart.
MIKE: And you'll always be in mine.
Number 32
Nicolette is in a foul mood when she and Byron enter the house. Byron doesn't think its Kiri to blame, rather this silent investor "who's thrown the spanner in the works."
Just as they then enter the kitchen, Kiri joins them and concludes that "Leo has made his decision." Byron confirms that he has - they are out and the new guy is in. Nicolette is annoyed that she [and Kiri] didn't get a chance to make things work, by getting over their past issues to make "a really great team" and thinks Kiri must be on the same wavelength too otherwise why would she have returned to Erinsborough "if you didn't want some kind of friendship with me?!" Kiri doesn't respond to that, instead asking what their plans are? Sarcastically, Nicolette replies that she might "go make some new friends on Ramsay Street!"
NICOLETTE: Oh, no, wait… you've taken them too.
Lassiters/Europe
Offscreen Mike has broken the news to Sam about breaking up with Jane because he's fallen for Angela but gets in that while he might be in love with her, it is definitely too soon to be talking marriage! He then reassures her that both he and Jane love her and that Jane is happy, if she wishes to, to go on living at #24.
Lassiters Park (next day)
Following on from her chat with Mike, Jane wants Sam "to hear my side of things too." "I will always love your dad," Jane says with a heavy heart but "sometimes love just isn't enough." Jane reiterates to Sam that she is "still very much a part of our family" and would "love it if you were to stay with us."
SAM: I want that to. You're my second mum. I love you.
Jane is very happy and relieved to hear that from her and moves closer, so she can hug the lass.
Eirini Rising
Susan and Terese reassure Jane that she did the right thing by breaking up with Mike. As well as telling them that, Jane then adds that the Department have given their approval so she can take some time off - she is off to Queensland for a few weeks to stay with Scott and Charlene and might even visit her Uncle Joe while she is there too.
SUSAN: You know you're gonna be fine Jane and life… life will go on.
Jane gets that but does add that "it's a shame that it's without Mike but that's just the way it has to be."
Vineyard
Byron answers the call and tells the caller Leo isn't there so offers to take a message instead. Turns out the caller is this mystery investor… so Byron informs them that the meeting with Leo has had to be cancelled!
BYRON: (to the caller) I'm so sorry, but circumstances have changed, he's decided to go with another investor.
After breaking the bad news to the investor he at least told them to "have a nice day!" However, someone has caught the telephone call - Krista!
KRISTA: What did you just do?!
Coming up on Neighbours
- Sasha meeting Kiri
- Cara questioning Wendy.
- Krista issuing Byron with an ultimatum.
