Penthouse suite
Even with Paul's help, Terese is having issues trying to pick the best candidate for the operations manager role. The newly arrived Chelsea randomly picks a name, citing that its best to "always hire someone smarting than you!"
The Waterhole
Aaron locks up the bar for the night and pours himself a tequila. He looks though photos of life pre- Erinsborough on his phone before knocking back the poured shot of tequila.
Number 32
Krista gets a scare when Mackenzie puts the lights on suddenly as she nips into the kitchen to collect her keys - she can't sleep so is going to go see if snuggling up to Leo will help.
After Krista departs, Mackenzie gets a text from Wade suggesting they meet at 10am tomorrow at whatever venue she selects.
The Waterhole
It's Aaron's turn to get the scare when Krista enters the bar as he's necking another shot of tequila - she putting not being able to sleep to good use by doing an impromptu security check before going to see Leo. Aaron reminds her they employ people to do security checks although she cites that you "never can be too sure!" She does wonder why he is still in the bar and Aaron confesses to enjoying the peace and quiet there given "house is so full of Harrises and Stones" so doesn't have that feeling of being watched.
Krista goes to join him in having a shot of tequila and is told that he is "not David" and he shouldn't "try to be him!" Aaron is really struggling watching her about to have drink and whether to interfere or not given what she has just said.
KRISTA: He's gone and my baby is dead. I just wanna not feel it for an hour.
Aaron still doesn't know how to react, so she reassures him that "it's not a habit" it is simply "just taking the edge off" and adds in that she "will be fine" before necking the shot.
Number 22
Terese is out for the count and is dreaming of her vow renewal to Paul… the nightmare part kicks in when Paul admits to covering up a death. That nightmare part hastily wakes her up!
The Waterhole
Krista totally gets where Aaron is coming from when he admits that he wants to feel better but equally doesn't. She adds in that "this feeling is exhausting" and they'd be "terrible people if we were just over it." This time it's Aaron that totally gets that, he feels like he is just walking around "living my life but I'm bleeding on the inside."
KRISRA: I'm outside myself half the time, just watching other Krista get on with stuff. Just… I wanted to be a mum so much. I was gonna be nurturing and loving and grow something amazing out of the heinous ashes of what happened to me.
AARON: That's the worst part about it, isn't it? The things that were supposed to happen.
Aaron goes on to admit that when the four of them lived in the country, he wasted it by "being resentful" as he wanted to move back to Erinsborough and "recreate everything we had." "You couldn't have known," Krista tries to reassure him with but Aaron just wishes that he could get the wasted time back again. Krista's solution is to have another shot of tequila but Aaron doesn't look too comfortable at what they are doing.
Number 32 (next day)
Haz manages to get a smile out of Mackenzie when he presents her with some toast which has the jam shaped into a heart before things return to their frosty state. He asks if they can "hit pause on all the stress" for a wee while so they can go back to "normal us" because he misses it. She doesn't dismiss his suggestion and mentions she has plans for the morning but refuses to say what they are.
HAZ: I love you.
MACKENZIE: I love you too.
Despite the pair saying 'I love you' to each other, their body language suggests anything but that!
Lassiters hotel reception
Chelsea covers for Krista by telling Leo that she is at an offsite meeting. He isn't exactly buying it as it's the second offsite meeting this week but the promise of getting Krista to contact him when she arrives back at least pacifies him.
When moments later, Krista does arrive, Chelsea explains the cover story for her late arrival. Krista genuinely thanks Chelsea and explains the lateness as being unwell courtesy of a virus from Abby's daycare. "It is just a virus?" Chelsea asks which Krista is quick to confirm it is.
A worried Nicolette comes into the hotel looking for Aaron - he's taken her car and isn't answering his phone. She is sure he hasn't taken off again but is concerned that its "a little triggering" with what he's done. Krista can't help so Nicolette plans on heading home where she can "think of some choice insults just for him!"
Pavilion café
Mackenzie admits to Wade that she was surprised he wanted to meet again. His explanation was at their last meeting he felt like it was him who unloaded and wanted to reciprocate that given he knew her friends were suffering.
Mackenzie describes to him what has happened to the RSRs and the police know it is coming from the same person but can't find where that person is. Wade suggests that it could be someone in common to all those affected… "someone who's good with computers" and "who studied IT?"
MACKENZIE: No one that makes sense.
Harold's café
When he enters the café, Byron is surprised to see Haz behind the counter working. Haz explains that Mackenzie has something so they couldn't hang out and agrees to take Byron up on his offer to make himself scarce tonight.
Meanwhile Jane has had enough of Terese bending her ear talking about Paul rather than Eirini Rising! She reminds Terese that their "past history and relationship" is "so powerful, they fill every room that you're in together" and wonders if her subconscious is "actually telling you to stay away and not to go back."
Countryside
Aaron is back at the house he (and the others) lived at before returning to Erinsborough but his solo visit is interrupted when Krista arrives having pieced together where he'd be after Nicolette reported him missing. Once passing on the news to Nicolette that Aaron is safe, she asks if it's helping being back here?
AARON: This was the last place we really lived as a family. I guess I just figured maybe I could feel David again. Maybe we could be together for a while but… I don't know, it's not really working. This was never really home.
The 82 Tram
Mackenzie is so impressed at how Wade is caring for people he doesn't know she has shouted him something to eat and is offering him any legal help too. He wishes he could return the favour and hopes she has a boyfriend who can support her, especially if she has "big dreams for your job."
Countryside
Aaron is regaling Krista with tales of David as they walk around the property. She gets why David wanted "to walk away" from Paul and wonders what if… her dad had been "as kind and supportive as Paul's been over the past few weeks."
AARON: I'm just glad you are getting to see the good side of him. That's all I'm gonna say about that.
In hindsight, Aaron wishes he'd lost the fight he had with David about returning to Erinsborough.
KRISTA: It's just another one of those things that you can't change. How do people cope with this?
AARON: You think you will?
KRISTA: I have so far.
The pair then decided to head back to Erinsborough but she has unknowingly left something behind - a bag of pills she accidentally knocked out of her bag when retrieving her water bottle.
Lassiters hotel, room 306
Chelsea adds another place onto where Krista is (doctors appointment) to help explain her absence when Paul comes asking where she is at. He is relived she is getting help and asks if Chelsea is supporting her too.
CHELSEA: I was very supportive when I spoke to her this morning. Don't worry!
Chelsea wants to take full advantage of Paul's visit to her room but he's got other things on his mind - helping Terese! That doesn't go down well, so she warns Paul he is setting himself "up for disappointment" because he won't win Terese back.
CHELSEA: She's remarried. She thinks you're toxic. I'm sure you think I'm biased but I know what you and I are and its not hard to read her either.
Countryside
Before they get into their respective cars, Aaron thanks Krista for coming out. Both agree to keep what happened at The Waterhole quiet from Leo.
As Krista goes to get her keys, she realises the bag of pills is missing and rejects Aaron's offer to go look for them [obviously she doesn't say its pills that are missing, just that something is!].
Lassiters Complex
Ignoring what Chelsea said to him, Paul makes a beeline for Terese when they exit the hotel and he spots her. Paul wants to talk about her recruitment woes but she cites being too busy to chat and to put it in an email instead. He rejects the offer as whatever he has thought up is "inspiring" and wants to see her facial reaction to the news. Eventually Terese says no and explains why:
TERESE: I don't wanna sound ungrateful or anything but I told you last night that I've got a lot on my plate and I really appreciate your help but I can't keep having meeting after meeting with you.
"You understand?" Terese asks and a confused Paul replies "yeah" as Terese bits him farewell. In the background, Chelsea is trying very hard not overdo the smile she has on her face as to what she's just witnessed!
The 82 Tram
Wade opens up an untitled folder on his computer and renames it as 'Mackenzie'. In it is a photo of Haz and Mackenzie from the longest lie in.
Countryside
Aaron gives up waiting for Krista and goes to find her. Unfortunately for her, he immediately finds the bag of pills because he stands on them!
