Paul and Terese are talking.
PAUL: You know...I keep having moments when I think David is still alive...just for a few seconds, you know? Then I remember, and it's just...it's like losing him all over again.
Terese takes this in, clearly thinking about her own experience in losing Josh.
PAUL: My family is the most important thing to me and I will do anything to protect them.
TERESE: I know.
PAUL: Yet I always seem to destroy them in the process. Cameron, Kate...now David.
TERESE: Don't say that.
PAUL: Why not? It's true. My actions led to them dying. I don't have a relationship with Robert. I barely see my kids in New York. Now Leo and Abigail are moving out, and I lost you too...I mean...
TERESE: Hey...
PAUL: You know it absolutely tears me up seeing you and Toadie together. But at least I know that you're safe away from me. Which is good because I destroy absolutely everything I touch.
Terese looks at her phone. There's a text from Toadie asking if she's coming home soon. She quietly take Paul's hand, sympathetically.
Outside Lassiter's
Chelsea and Lucy have a had a few drinks and Lucy is telling her all about Paul past (clearly Chelsea is pumping her for Paul gossip). Lucy tells Chelsea how lucky Paul is to have her looking after him(!)
They are surprised to bump into Terese coming out of the lift. She tells them she was just checking on Paul.

TOADIE: I need to remember that you chose me and just forget about Paul. He's got his life and I've got you and that makes me the luckiest guy in the world, right?
TERESE: I love you.
She hugs him, but she looks conflicted.

Karl tells her that she needs to leave well enough alone - it's between Toadie and Terese.
Ramsay Street

Terese is looking through the mail when Toadie comes in, he's suspicious, and asks if they were talking about Paul - maybe she wants Terese to check in on him when she goes back to New York? Terese says she didn't ask for anything like that.
TOADIE: I need to stop being so paranoid, don't I? I'm just terrified of you being dragged back into Paul's life.
He heads off to work. Terese looks awkward.

Harold's
Melanie comes in and sees Toadie at a table. She asks him how things are with Terese. Karl is also there and intervenes, hurrying Melanie along to her physiotherapy appointment. When she's gone, Karl talks to Toadie.
KARL: Melanie let slip that Terese is feeling sympathy for Paul and you're not particularly happy about it.
TOADIE: Yeah...I shouldn't have said that. Mel just got me at a weak moment, that's all.
KARL: Because you must know how betrayed Terese would feel if she knew you were talking about her to your ex- wife?
TOADIE: Yes, yes I do know.
KARL: And not to pile on, but it's not really fair on Melanie to use her as a sounding board.
TOADIE: I overstepped the mark, Karl.
KARL: I'm around if you need someone to talk to.
TOADIE: I know.
Waterhole
Terese asks Holly if Lucy is around, but she's not. She asks if she's seen Paul, but nobody has seen him.

Penthouse
Chelsea has finally got access to the Penthouse by pretending to be part of the removal company(!) Paul is lying on the sofa. Chelsea tells him he needs someone to look after him.
CHELSEA: All your life, you've tried to be the strong one. The protector. But you don't have to protect anyone today. You don't have to be brave.
She strokes his face.
CHELSEA: Let me take care of you.
She kisses him.
PAUL: OK.
He staggers to his feet.
CHELSEA: So, I'm going to order you room service to soak up the booze and then grab you a coffee.
PAUL: Does my opinion count for anything?
CHELSEA: No, not on this one, no.
She picks up his phone and asks for his passcode so she can check his messages. He gives it to her. She checks his messages and sees the text from Terese. She deletes it.
Outside Harold's
Haz is cleaning some graffiti off the window when Chelsea comes up and ask for his strongest coffee to takeaway. She goes over to see Lucy who is sitting at an outside table. Chelsea soft soaps her about Terese's bad influence on Paul and Lucy tells her that Toadie wouldn't be too pleased about her visiting Paul.
LUCY: I really need to get back to the States.
CHELSEA: Then let me step in.
Inside Harold's
Chelsea picks up the coffee from Haz and sees Toadie there. She goes over and introduces herself.
CHELSEA: Would you tell Terese that Paul's feeling a lot better this morning? She rushed over to see him last night, so I assuming she'd want to know.
TOADIE: I think you might have your wires crossed there. Terese didn't see Paul last night.
CHELSEA: I saw her coming down in the elevator, Lucy Robinson was with me at the time. Such a selfless woman, your wife. She's dealing with her own grief, but still manages to find time for Paul.
Toadie looks thunder- struck.
Penthouse
Paul is showered and dressed. Chelsea tells him that she'll be in charge of his messages for now so he can rest. Also, she's spoken to Lucy.
CHELSEA: I told her I would take care of anything you need. To make that practical for everyone, I think I should move in here for a while. Lucy approves.
PAUL: I don't need a babysitter.
CHELSEA: But you need time to grieve. And there's a lot that goes on here day- to- day that I can take care of. Let me do that for you. Let me help.
PAUL: Thank you, yeah, thanks.
Chelsea looks quietly triumphant.

Melanie is looking at her wedding rings again when Toadie unexpectedly bursts in looking for Karl. She doesn't have time to take them off, so puts her hand in her pocket.
MELANIE: Is everything alright?
TOADIE: Yeah, no, doesn't matter.
MELANIE: I can tell when there's something on your mind.
Terese went and saw Paul last night and then she lied to me about it.
MELANIE: Oh, Toad, I'm sorry.
She takes his hands in hers, forgetting that she is wearing the rings. He sees them and she pulls away.
TOADIE: Why are you wearing that?
MELANIE: Our talk yesterday was simply like old times. All morning I've been wanting to feel connected to you.
TOADIE: Mel, er, living in the past is only going to cause you hurt.
MELANIE: If Terese if treating you like this, she doesn't deserve you.
TOADIE: Now is not the right time.
MELANIE: Well, when is the right time?! We just buried a friend and neighbour, he thought he had time...
He makes to go.
TOADIE: OK, er...
MELANIE: Life is short! And I am not going to die with things unsaid. (Getting upset) I still love you, and I always will. And I want you back.
Toadie takes this in, but can't deal with it and walks out.
